Motown Fans Have Their Own Burial For Michael Jackson. 19-07-'09

Since no final resting place for Michael Jackson has been chosen yet by the Jackson family, the fans of Detroit, Michigan took it upon themselves to create their own burial for Michael Jackson. In the absence of a body, the Motown community filled two casket-shaped vaults with memorial items such as toys, flowers and other mementos donated by fans in memory of Michael Jackson.

Two hearses carried the vaults to Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit where a granite tombstone stands above two donated cemetery plots. The following is engraved on the tombstone:

"Motown Remembers the King of Pop Michael J. Jackson Aug. 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009, Songwriter, Singer, Producer, Dancer, Choreographer, Humanitarian, Jackson 5 member, Soloist, 13 #1 Singles, 13 Grammy's, 197 Awards & 37 Top 40 hits. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Motown Legend, Gone Too Soon"

Motown Gravestone

The Motown Historical Museum organized the burial to help bring closure to the Michael Jackson fans who created a shrine on the steps of the museum after Jackson died.

Museum CEO Audley Smith and radio personality John Mason spoke to fans in front of the Motown Historical Museum on Friday, July 17 as the vaults were filled with stuffed animals and other items and then loaded into the hearses. The two hearses that transported the vaults were led by a police escort and were donated by The James H. Cole Funeral Home.

Audley Smith said that some of the tribute items, like storybooks and drawings, will be kept by the museum for use in a future exhibit honouring Michael Jackson.

The two cemetery plots were donated by Woodlawn Cemetery which is the final resting place for Rosa Parks and many famous musicians.

Michael Jackson's Body Moved After Fears Fans May Break Into The Crypt. 14-07-'09

Michael Jackson’s body has been moved because of fears ghoulish fans would break into the crypt in which it was hidden. His coffin was put inside the tomb belonging to Motown founder Berry Gordy after last week’s memorial service.

His family hoped to keep its location at Hollywood’s Forest Lawn Cemetery a secret until a final burial place was chosen. But word leaked out over the weekend and thousands of fans and tourists flocked to the spot.

Michael Jackson's Memorial (07-07-2009)

Yesterday it was reported the decision was taken to move Jacko’s coffin from the crypt to the basement of the cemetery’s main building because some “ghoulish” fans’ devotion might respect no boundaries.

Jackon burial has been put back while tests are made on his brain.

His brothers want to bury the star at his fairytale Neverland former home in central California.

But Jackon mum Katherine, 79, said he hated the ranch after it was raided by police in 2003.

MJ To Be Buried Wearing One White Glove. 09-07-'09

Michael Jackson will be laid to rest in pure MJ fashion -- as in he will be wearing one (and only one) of his favourite gloves.

Dorothy Gaspar -- who owns Gaspar Gloves in L.A. and designed gloves for the "This Is It" tour -- tells us La Toya Jackson wanted Michael to wear a glove inside the casket. Turns out La Toya chose a white leather glove Dorothy made for Michael 10-12 years ago -- a glove covered in Swarovski crystals.

Glove

Dorothy tells us she was informed of this yesterday by Michael's stylist -- Michael Bush -- when he picked up 20 green gloves she had made for Jackson's dancers.

Michael Jackson Memorial At Staples Center. 08-07-'09

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) - An 11-year-old girl who lost her father made the world cry with her on Tuesday.

"Ever since I was born, daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine," said Paris Katherine Jackson, the second of Michael Jackson's three children, as a massive memorial service for her father neared its end in downtown Los Angeles.

"And I just want to say that I love him so much," Paris added, before breaking down in tears and burying herself in the arms of her aunt, Janet Jackson.

Her aunts, uncles and two brothers who were on stage at the Staples Center arena reached over to console Paris. Thousands of mourners in the audience dabbed their eyes with tissues.

Michael Jackson's Memorial (07-07-2009)

It was the first time they had heard from a girl who, along with her two siblings, have often been hidden by veils or blankets when seen with their father.

"Everybody just broke down," said Tracie Laymon, a filmmaker from Los Angeles, who was in the audience. "Wow, it was really powerful."

It was the same refrain from other fans as they left the star-studded service or watched the broadcast on their television sets or online.

The rest of the ceremony was filled with touching and sincere tributes (Stevie Wonder, Usher and Brooke Shildes as highlights) and odd moments with Jermaine Jackson "singing" a version of Michael Jackson's favourite song Smile - something the King of Pop may have not wanted at all.

Among the persons who did not attend the ceremony were Chris Tucker, Liz Taylor, Quincy Jones and Diana Ross.

They are part of those who prefer to pay more private tributes to their friend, Michael Jackson, and not showcase it in front of millions of people. You can call it decency.

Rest In Peace, Michael Jackson.

We will all miss you so much.

Performances:

Andrae Crouch Choir, "Soon and Very Soon"
Mariah Carey & Trey Lorenz, "I'll Be There"
Lionel Richie, "Jesus Is Love"
Stevie Wonder, "Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer"

John Mayer, "Human Nature"
Jermaine Jackson, "Smile"
Usher, "Gone Too Soon"
Shaheen Jafargholi, "Who's Loving You"

Bill ClintonBill Clinton Praises Michael. 07-07-'09

Former US president Bill Clinton paused during an aid mission to Haiti today to honor Michael Jackson.

Clinton, now a special U.N. envoy to Haiti, recalled Michael's performance at a 2002 fundraiser at New York's Apollo theater and helping the Democratic Party raise cash at a crucial time.

"He basically helped save my party from terrible financial distress, so he was very kind to me personally," Clinton said during a stop on his tour of a still-struggling northern Haiti, where floods killed several hundred people last year.

Clinton spoke fondly of Michael, recalling that the singer performed at his first inauguration in 1993. He also said Michael had struggled with the burden of early fame.

"He was an immensely gifted man and I think he basically meant well. I know about all the trouble he had in his life and I hope he will be remembered for his contribution as an artist. I hope his children turn out well. That would be the greatest tribute you could have."

Diana RossDiana Ross Statement. 07-07-'09

Singer Diana Ross, that Michael Jackson has chosen to look after his three children in case his mother Katherine is not able to, has released the following statement:

"I am trying to find closure, I want you to know that even though I am not there at the Staples Center. I am there in my heart. I have decided to pause and be silent. This feels right for me.

Michael was a personal love of mine, a treasured part of my world, part of the fabric of my life in a way that I can't seem to find words to express. Michael wanted me to be there for his children, and I will be there if they ever they need me. I hope, today brings closure for all those who loved him. Thank you Katherine and Joe for sharing your son with the world and with me. I send my love and condolences to the Jackson family."

Elizabeth TaylorDame Elizabeth Taylor Statement. 07-07-'09

"I will always love Michael from the depth of my being and nothing can separate us. I've been asked to speak at the Staples Center. I cannot be part of the public whoopla. And I cannot guarantee that I would be coherent to say a word. I just don't believe that Michael would want me to share my grief with millions of others.

How I feel is between us. Not a public event. I said I wouldn't go to the Staples Center and I certainly don't want to become a part of it.

I love him too much. My love goes out to Katherine and Michael's beloved children."

Investigation Focuses On Doctors. 05-07-'09

Investigators are focusing on at least five doctors who prescribed drugs to Michael Jackson as they try to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death, according to law enforcement sources.

Authorities removed drugs and other medical evidence from the Holmby Hills mansion where Jackson was stricken and are trying to determine whether the medications were properly prescribed and whether they played any role in his death.

One of the most tantalizing clues so far is the discovery of what one source described as “numerous bottles” of the powerful sedative Diprivan at the home. The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because it was an ongoing investigation, said some of the bottles were full and others were empty.

None had prescription labels, and investigators are trying to determine how Jackson got the drugs.

Diprivan is an extremely potent drug that is supposed to be administered by an anaesthesiologist, typically in a hospital. Experts expressed alarm that it would be used at a private home.

“It’s a very dangerous drug if self-administered or administered by someone not trained in airway management and cardiac life support,” said Ethan Bryson, an assistant professor of anaesthesiology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. “You need to have someone who knows what they are doing when they administer it.”

Diprivan, the market name for propofol, is one of the most widely used IV drugs for general anaesthesia. The product label from the Food and Drug Administration says a patient being given the drug should be monitored at all times for early signs of abnormally low blood pressure, low oxygen levels and stopped breathing. Problems with the heart or breathing are more likely to occur following rapid administration of the drug. The label states that equipment to provide artificial ventilation, supplemental oxygen and CPR “must be immediately available.”
It’s unclear whether any of this equipment was found at Jackson’s home.

Abuse of Diprivan is a growing problem, said Paul Wischmeyer, an anaesthesiologist at the University of Colorado. Wischmeyer coauthored a 2007 study of Diprivan abuse in the journal Anaesthesia & Analgesia. The study found that in an e-mail survey of 126 academic anaesthesiology training programs nationwide, 18% of departments reported one or more incidents of propofol abuse in the previous 10 years. Of the 25 individuals who abused propofol, seven died as a result of the abuse, including six who were residents, according to the study.

“A lot of people do it because it makes you completely blotto. It totally takes away all anxiety, all fear,” he said. “It’s incredibly relieving of pain anxiety and stress. People do it to escape.”

He said he has seen people take the drug to relieve anxiety -- and that many people he has interviewed at rehab centers who are trying to kick an addiction to propofol “experienced trauma earlier in their life, and are using it to escape.”

It remains unknown whether prescription drugs played any role in Jackson’s death. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office is awaiting the results of toxicology tests before listing a cause of death. The coroner and the Los Angeles Police Department are being aided in their probe by the Drug Enforcement Administration and California attorney general’s office.

Both agencies have expertise in investigating doctors suspect of improperly prescribing drugs. The attorney general’s office investigated two doctors who were charged this year with repeatedly supplying model Anna Nicole Smith with addictive prescription drugs in the years before she died.
The DEA is expected to investigate whether doctors who prescribed medication to Jackson had a “face to face” relationship with the singer and provided a proper diagnosis, which is required by law.

Michael JacksonMJ Burial Will Precede Memorial Service. 05-07-'09

Roger Friedman published the following information on his column Showbiz411.com:

"All weekend, friends and family of Michael Jackson have been busy putting the finishing touches on Michael Jackson’s memorial service set for next Tuesday.

Ken Ehrlich, who produces the Grammy Awards, is in charge, guaranteeing that the show will be a classy event. He’s been working with Randy Phillips of AEG Live. The latter is the company that was producing Jackson’s London shows and also owns Ehrlich’s production company.

Ehrlich, by the way, was negotiating to produce a Halloween TV special for NBC with Jackson the night before he died.

Sources say Rev. Al Sharpton will speak at the service, and Jesse Jackson may as well. It’s still undecided who the musical acts will be on the bill. I wouldn’t be surprised if Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and none other than Little Richard are asked to participate. There’s also a chance that the 3T’s—Michael’s nephews, sons of Tito Jackson, who were included in Michael’s will—would do something as well. Jackson was their mentor.

But Michael’s body will not be at the Staples Center, after all. Insiders tell me that the Jackson family will have a burial service at 8 a.m., two hours before the memorial. The private internment will be at Forest Lawn, the celebrity cemetery in Hollywood. Hopefully, Michael will rest peacefully there with the many dozens of stars including, most recently, David Carradine."

Colin PowellColin Powell: Celebrate Michael Jackson's Art. 04-07-'09

Colin Powell says Michael Jackson had controversy in his life, but in death his art should be celebrated.

The retired general and former secretary of state said he was in Vietnam, Korea or stationed elsewhere during Jackson's heyday.

"So he's not quite of my generation but his art spanned three generations and is worthy of all the tribute that he is receiving for his art," Powell said in a television interview set to air Sunday.

Powell said his most vivid memory of Jackson is of the young boy performing with his brothers in the Jackson 5. He said the Jacksons were "fresh, exciting kids with the 'fros in the early '70s and singing those wonderful songs."

Jackson, who died June 25, had been plagued with heavy debts, allegations of child abuse and use of prescription drugs.

"Yes, there were some challenges in his life," Powell told CNN's "State of the Union," which released excerpts of the interview ahead of the broadcast. "Yes, there was a great deal of controversy about him. But he's now passed on. Let's celebrate his art."

Only Few Details On Memorial Service. 04-07-'09

Despite the interest surrounding the service, only few details emerged so far. Organizers would only say there would not be a funeral processional to the arena, indicating Michael's body would not be brought to the public memorial.

Ken Ehrlich, known for producing the Grammy Awards, is producing the memorial show, his company said. Kenny Ortega, who was to have co-directed the series of concerts in London (UK) will direct it.

MJ StatueStatue Installed In Switzerland. 04-07-'09

A giant statue of Michael Jackson was installed nearby Zurich (Switzerland) to celebrate the King of Pop during a ceremony this weekend.

The 12-meters high statue weights four tons and it is located in the north-west of Zurich, specifically in the village of Regensdorf. It represents Michael "HIStory" style with golden belts wrapped around his body.

"Only 19 specimen of these statues exist around the world and only 2 of these are in Europe", said event organiser Andreas Grassmann. "We are going to organise a week-end long celebration starting tonight (Friday)."

The organisers, who are expecting thousands of admirers to show up, will sell candles and roses. A book of condolescences will also be at hand for the public.
