Michael JacksonMichael Upset With Dad's Birthday Bash. 28-07-'03

Superstar Michael Jackson fled a weekend (July 26) for the birthday party, he threw for his father when he realised none of his superstar friends would turn up.

Jackson opened the doors to his Neverland Ranch home in Los Olivos, California, to celebrate dad Joseph's 75th birthday, hoping the party would attract a host of A-list stars.

But when SIR Elton John and Justin Timberlake failed to show and the only celebrities were Vanilla Ice, Mc Hammer and American chat show host Jimmy Kimmel, Michael himself left.

One guest at the party claims the food ran out and revellers had to eat candy bars instead.

An insider tells American tabloid 'Globe' that Jackson was upset when his father invited over 1,000 guests to the bash.

He says, "Michael is an extremely private person and couldn't stand the sight of all those people traipsing over his property.

"He refused to come out of the house and then bolted in a huff less than midway through the party."

Michael Jackson Gets Dressed. 26-07-'03

Michael Jackson is the latest star to put his name to a clothing line. The singer is producing a men's clothing range for Wakita in Japan.

A clothing company has signed an agreement to sell suits and other attire inspired by Michael Jackson.

A spokesman for the Wakita company says the outfits won't be as wild as those Jackson wears on stage because they have to sell to "regular people." He adds, "No glove either." The suits and jackets, to be sold across Japan, will carry the Michael Jackson brand. Photos of the singer also will be used in marketing the brand.

The spokesman says the suits will sell for about $480 each. Each suit will be approved by Jackson's agent and will be released in spring.

Wakita made the deal in April with a Singapore-based marketing company.

A spokesman for the company explains, "There is a growing popularity among young men in Japan for dark suits. Jackson, who has a huge following here, fits that rising fashion image."

In recent months the many other stars to add their name to fashion lines include actor John Malkovich, rapper Eve, cartoon character Mickey Mouse, Fugee star Wyclef Jean, Eminem and his protégé 50 Cent, actor Vinnie Jones and deceased rap hero Tupac Shakur.

Joseph JacksonJoseph Jackson Day In Neverland. 25-07-'03

The eccentric Jackson family will reunite tomorrow (July 26) at Michael Jackson's legendary Neverland ranch.

Michael and siblings Janet, Jermaine, LaToya, Jackie, Tito, Marlon, Maureen and Randy will join mother Katherine to celebrate father Joe's 75th birthday.

Michael will host an entertainment-filled extravaganza for his family and guests who will include pop golden boy Justin Timberlake and, reportedly, his ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley.

The occasion is the chance for the family to put on a united front after years of bickering. Katherine divorced Joe in 1982, Michael and LaToya both accused Joe of beating them as children and have had an infamous falling out themselves.

But Janet recently insisted, "We're there for one another if we need each other."

Jackson Attacks Music Piracy Bill. 21-07-'03

Michael Jackson has attacked a proposed bill in the US which would jail people who exchange pirated music online.

Two Democrats, John Conyers and Howard Berman, have proposed legislation which would make file swapping of pirated music and software a crime.

The Authors, Consumer and Computer Owners Protection and Security Act of 2003 - known as the Accops Act - carries penalties of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for uploading a copyrighted file to a peer-to-peer (P2P) network.

Michael says:

"I am speechless about the idea of putting music fans in jail for downloading music," Jackson said in a statement.

"It is wrong to illegally download, but the answer cannot be jail," he added.

The record industry, backed by the US government, is stepping up its fight against those who pirate music online.

The Recording Industry Association of America is suing users who pirate music online, threatening them with heavy fines.

The crackdown comes as a new legitimate online music site launches in the US on Tuesday, offering what it says is the cheapest per-song rates yet.

The legitimate online music market is beginning to grow with a number of services offering music downloads.

Michael JacksonMichael Returns To The Jackson Five? 17-07-'03

Michael Jackson is returning to his roots - by rejoining the The Jackson Five for a tour.

The sensational reunion was confirmed by bandmate and older brother Jermaine Jackson, who is delighted to have his younger sibling back on board.

And according to the 'I Want You Back' hitmaker, the brothers will also be recording a new album together. It is last since 2001 that the brothers are been together. This was to celebrate Michael's solo 30 years.

Due to his success in the Motown group, Jackson went on to achieve an unparalleled level of notoriety. But his brothers insist his solo fame will not eclipse the band in this joint venture.

Jermaine explains, "Michael turned into this beautiful entertainer because of the foundation of the Jackson Five".

Jackson Bids Farewell To Barry White. 15-07-'03

Soul superstar Barry White had a fitting farewell when loved ones including Michael Jackson turned out to see him buried at sea.

The legendary singer's ashes were scattered from a yacht off the Californian coast yesterday (July 14) as 40 friends and relatives gathered to say their last goodbyes.

Pop king Jackson - White's godson - kept the sun off his delicate face as he stifled tears during the emotionally charged ceremony.

The heavyweight Walrus Of Love's ashes were scattered by his estranged wife Glodean James.

An onlooker says, "It was a very moving service. People were crying.

"In many ways it was a bizarre sight. There were women tottering around in high heels, Glodean with six-inch-long gold nails and Michael Jackson looking like he was in a circus with a guard holding a silver umbrella over his head."

The singer's eight children were present, but missing was his last love Katherine Denton and eight-month-old daughter Barriana. Barry's other children are calling for DNA tests to prove she was indeed his child.

Barry died earlier this month on July 4th from kidney failure, aged just 58.

Pre-History: The Lost Steeltown Recordings CD Album CoverHopes For End To Jackson Lawsuit. 12-07-'03

A group of musicians suing Michael Jackson over copyright issues relating to the Jackson Five are hoping to settle out of court.

The lawsuit, filed by Steeltown Records boss Gordon Keith and musician Elvy Woodard, alleges the Jackson Five used the name of another Gary, Indiana band and two of their songs on the 1996 album 'Pre-History: The Lost Steeltown Recordings'.

The suit says the Jackson Five - which included Jackson's brothers Jermaine, Jackie, Tito and Marlon - infringed on the name Ripple + Waves.

The long-running saga saw Jackson travel to Indianapolis to give his sworn deposition, but only after cancelling one scheduled court appearance citing illness.

Keith's lawyer, Norman Reed, says there was discussion about settling out of court during Jackson's deposition hearing in June. He has now asked the US District Court to set up a conference to bring about a satisfactory conclusion to the legal proceedings.

But Jackson's lawyer Robert Meyer does not believe a swift settlement is likely - he says, "We've been amenable to discussing things with them in the past. Now that we've gone through all the trials and tribulations of dragging Michael all over the place, frankly, I don't know if the door is still open on that."

Keith signed the Jackson Five to his Steeltown Recordings label in 1967, but says he has not been recognised for his contribution. Jackson's legal team has said the lawsuit is without merit because the singer was just nine years old at the time.
