Rush Hour director Ratner and star Tucker were recruited when it emerged that the pair knew Arvizo's mother Janet and her son.

According to British tabloid The Daily Sport, Ratner claims he knew Mrs Arvizo would "set up" the singer, while Tucker and his girlfriend have reportedly often babysat Gavin, 13.

Michael Jackson in Glenwood SpringsPolice Question Michael Jackson In Glenwood Springs. 26-02-'04

Entertainer Michael Jackson had hoped to spend some quality time with his children in a multimillion dollar compound in Old Snowmass, Colo., but ended up talking to police in Glenwood Springs this week.

According to police, Jackson, 45, walked into the local Wal-Mart at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday (February 24) wearing a ski mask and that's where things went downhill. Employees didn't know it was the 'King of Pop' and thought they were being robbed.

Police were called, but Jackson had already left the store by the time they arrived. An employee gave police a description of the vehicle and police stopped him for questioning. He told police he wore the mask in an attempt to remain incognito.

The Wal-Mart is located about 30 miles from where Jackson is staying.

A similar incident happened Aspen, according to the Glasgow, Scotland, Daily Record.

An employee of a camera shop said the was terrified when someone wearing a ski mask walked into the shop this week, the paper reported. It turned out to be Jackson.

An assistant at the Ritz Camera store in Aspen told the Daily news: "When he first came in, I thought we were being robbed."

Jackson was guarded at a distance by Nation of Islam bodyguards.

Jackson is staying at the Meanwhile Ranch in nearby Old Snowmass, Colo., with his children and plans to remain through the end of the month, according to sources. He's been there since Feb. 16.

"He's on vacation with his children. There's nothing really happening other than he wanted to get away for a while," Raymone Bain, his spokeswoman, told the Aspen Daily News. "He's staying with some friends and having a really nice time there. The people there have been very nice and he's enjoying himself."

Jackson traded his digs at the Neverland Ranch for the 56-acre ranch estate that is on the market for $16.5 million. The estate can be rented for $125,000 a month, according a Web site advertising the property.

The sprawling ranch assures Jackson and his family complete privacy and he has asked the media to respect his wishes in not wanting to be contacted. Nation of Islam security members are keeping the paparazzi at bay on the outskirts of the ranch.

Jackson has been spotted browsing in Aspen, but has kept his visits low profile. He was videotaped in Aspen Tuesday, wearing a ski mask, orange hat, blue jumpsuit and silver moon-boots, according to CelebrityJustice.com. A mystery companion was similarly dressed, also wearing a ski mask -- though the boy's face was only partially covered.

The TV show "Extra" reported that the boy is Jackson's nephew.

Jackson walked into the Sharper Image store in Aspen wearing the outfit, surprising employees. A store employee told the Daily Record: "I had no idea it was him, but I did think it was a bit strange for someone to be wearing that outfit."

The Aspen Daily News quoted sources who said that a notary public was recently summoned to the ranch to certify documents believed to be connected to a legal matter between Jackson and his second wife.

Jackson and his ex-wife, Debbie Rowe, have let a retired judge negotiate between them amid claims she is seeking custody of their children Prince Michael and Paris.

Jackson is embroiled in a criminal investigation in California involving alleged lewd acts with a minor and has pleaded not guilty to seven counts involving the investigation.

Judge Philip Simon Removes Michael Jackson From Copyright Suit. 25-02-'04

Philip Simon
Philip Simon is a United States federal judge who serves on the United States District Court for the Northem District of Indiana.

A federal judge has dismissed yesterday (February 24) Michael Jackson from a copyright suit, but Jackson's legal problems in Indiana continue.

U.S. District Court Judge Philip Simon ruled this week there isn't enough evidence to put before a jury on allegations the Hall of Fame rocker profited from two songs wrongly credited to the Jackson 5.

A trial is still scheduled to begin next month on allegations New York-based Brunswick Records violated a copyright held by Gary's Gordon Keith, a former executive of Steeltown Records, and Elvy Woodard, Keith's nephew.

The suit revolves around 'The Jackson 5 -- Pre-History: The Lost Steeltown Recordings,' a compact disc Brunswick released in 1996 that included two songs, 'Let Me Carry Your Schoolbooks' and 'I Never Had A Girl' that Brunswick credited as early Jackson 5 hits.

Keith sued in 1997 claiming the songs were the property of Ripples and Waves and Brunswick used them without permission.

Ripples band members who joined the suit with Keith provided evidence they were separate groups, although they both began performing during the late 1960s in Gary and had business relations with Steeltown Records, a small Gary record label run by Keith and Ben Brown.

Brown forged a deal in the mid 1990's with Inverted Records and Brunswick Records to resurrect some of the Jacksons' early songs with the 'Pre-History' album.

Four of the Jackson brothers settled out of court with the Ripples and Waves band members without an admission of wrongdoing. Michael Jackson's lawyers successfully argued he had nothing to do with the album.

Keith still has a second lawsuit pending against the Jacksons in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis. It alleges Michael and the rest of the Jacksons usurped the Ripples and Waves band name in another Motown album.

Xtra JetCriminal Probe Launched Into Jackson Plane Incident. 25-02-'04

The jet Michael Jackson chartered to surrender to child molestation charges late last year (03) is now at the centre of a formal criminal probe by an American federal grand jury.

The grand jury is conducting a formal criminal probe into secret cameras that were placed on the charter plane when Michael flew from Las Vegas to Santa Barbara, California to face charges of child abuse.

Jackson's former travel agent Cynthia Montgomery arranged for the charter plane operated by XtraJet to transport Jackson last November (03).

The grand jury is investigating whether there was any criminal misconduct.

The incident prompted the superstar's lawyers to file a huge lawsuit against XtraJet claiming, among other things, invasion of privacy.

Jackson is now being sued Montgomery, alleging he never reimbursed her the nearly $18,000 she shelled out to book the flight.

Montgomery believes the reason for Jackson's non payment is because his camp feels she is at least partly to blame for the camera incident - but she insists she isn't.

An XtraJet flight attendant may also testify before the grand jury.

Sources say the woman flew chartered flights on XtraJet with Jackson on several occasions and has told Santa Barbara sheriff's investigators she has served him wine in soda cans.

One of the central allegations in the case is that Jackson plied his young accuser with alcohol in Coke cans before molesting him.

Michael JacksonJackson Slams Rehab Story. 24-02-'04

Michael Jackson has blasted press reports he's being treated at a rehabilitation centre - dismissing them as "vicious rumours".

Michael is upset with reports alleging he's in Aspen, Colorado to undergo treatment.

Jackson says he's at the resort for a holiday with his children and has slammed the reports as "simply another of a litany of false rumours".

He says, "I am appalled. I am here for a few days with my children. I am outraged by these constant rumours.

"My team and I are going to use our best efforts to find out who these people are, who are continually trying to bring me grief and shame, and we are going to stop it.

"This is simply another of a litany of false rumours that are being circulated by people who are simply lying to further their own agenda."

Jackson, 45, last month (January) pleaded innocent to seven counts of child molestation.

His next court hearing is scheduled for 2 April.

Michael JacksonJackson's New Media Offensive. 19-02-'04

Michael Jackson is launching a new media offensive as he battles to prove his innocence over child abuse allegations.

The troubled singer has been charged with seven counts of molestation and two of administering an intoxicating agent to a minor, and is concerned at how he has been represented in the media following his arrest in November (03).

Jackson is now planning to set up his own website for reporters, and is thought to have met journalists himself in private.

His new spokesperson Raymone Bain explains her client is, "stepping up to the plate and taking control of his personal image."

Jackson And Rowe Reach Agreement. 18-02-'04

Michael Jackson has reportedly reached agreement with his ex-wife Debbie Rowe, ending her legal attempts to get custody of their two children.

Rowe, who was married to Jackson between 1996 and 1999, had threatened to take her former husband - currently facing trial on child abuse charges - to court to gain custody of Prince Michael, six, and Paris, five.

But Rowe has reportedly backed down after Jackson made a public statement (February 6) distancing himself from controversial religious group The Nation of Islam - who have been linked to Michael following his arrest last November (03).

Rowe had feared the Muslim group would attempt to convert her Jewish-born children.

A source close to Rowe says, "If there wasn't something in writing, something in the media, then he would have been served with legal papers."

Michael JacksonJackson Faces Bankruptcy. 14-02-'04

Michael Jackson could be bankrupt within days, if he cannot pay back a $66 million bank loan by next Tuesday (February 17).

The singer's advisers have warned him the Bank of America could seize his biggest asset - his catalogue of Beatles songs - if he cannot make the payment.

The decline of Jackson's music career, and his failure to curb his bouts of wild spending - his outgoings add up to a staggering $1.8 million per month - have left the superstar financially crippled.

Loan store tycoon Al Malnik - who was called in to organise Jackson's finances a year ago (03) - says, "We are working towards a positive resolution of Michael's financial affairs."

Judge In Michael Jackson Case Delays Ruling. 13-02-'04

The judge in Michael Jackson's molestation case delayed a ruling Friday on when to hold the singer's preliminary hearing after the defense said it hasn't had enough time to review the prosecution's evidence.

Friday's proceedings were held in an atmosphere much more subdued than Jackson's arraignment last month, when thousands of fans came to the courthouse and Jackson danced atop a vehicle. This time, Jackson wasn't present and there were only a few fans on hand.

All parties in the case agreed to come back to court on April 2 to set the date for Jackson's preliminary hearing, the proceeding in which prosecutors will lay out their case and Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville will decide whether it should go to trial.

Defense attorney Mark Geragos said he had just received 400 pages of evidence from Santa Barbara County District Attorney Thomas Sneddon and would need time to review it.

Geragos said he understood that the prosecution was "halfway there" in turning over all of its evidence.

The judge advised the attorneys that he hoped for the case to go to trial by the end of the year and all parties agreed that was possible.

Melville also ruled on a media request to unseal documents related to all searches in the case. He said the documents will remain sealed but he will release edited versions, possibly by next week.

Mark Geragos
Michael Jackson's attorney Mark Geragos attends Michael Jackson's preliminary hearing February 13, 2004 in Santa Barbara, California.

The ruling was similar to one he made Jan. 16 regarding search warrants and documents related to the November search of Jackson's Neverland ranch. The released versions of those documents deleted references to many of the items seized. The judge also did not release the affidavit law enforcement officials filed when they sought that warrant. The affidavit contains their reason for the search.

Jackson is charged with seven counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 and two counts of giving the child an "intoxicating agent." He pleaded innocent Jan. 16.

Unlike the circus-like atmosphere surrounding last month's arraignment, at which more than 3,000 fans packed the streets, singing and chanting, only about two dozen fans showed up at the courthouse Friday.

Jackson supporter Marina Sali, a 25-year-old college student from New York City, was among them. She said it didn't matter that Jackson wasn't expected to be at court. "Michael to me means everything," she said. "I will do anything to prove my point of view."

Tierra Alexander, 20, had the words, "Just leave him alone" on the back of her shirt. Her friend, Tamika Myles, 21, wore a shirt with the phrase "Just stop dogging him around" on the back.

Jackson Not In Debt - Says Music Manager. 12-02-'04

Michael Jackson has no obligation to pay back a $70 million debt to a mystery creditor, according to his business manager.

Michael who is facing seven counts of child molestation against 13-year-old Gavin Arvizo - was reported to owe the huge amount to the Bank of America, who had allegedly demanded it back next week (ends February 20).

But Charles Koppelman, who manages the singer's musical affairs, insists Jackson's assets and fortune remain intact and greatly outweigh any debt he owes.

Koppelman says, "Michael is an individual who has the ability to generate huge sums of money."

However, the businessman did admit that Jackson, 45, is due to make a significant financial transaction over the next few days - although he refused to go into details.

According to Koppelman, Jackson's current legal troubles and new association with controversial group The Nation of Islam had not damaged his ability to take out loans or renegotiate them.

Michael Jackson has hired shamed boxer Mike Tyson's spokeswoman in a bid to improve his public image.

Michael who won't be appearing at tomorrow's (February 13) court hearing in Santa Barbara, California for what is described as a "scheduling conference" - is employing Raymone Bain to speak for him.

Jackson, 45, last month (January) pleaded innocent to seven counts of child molestation, but furthered his eccentric reputation by showing up to court late before dancing on the roof of his car after the hearing.

Bain, who also counts tennis champ Serena Williams as a client, says, "He's going to be more proactive in speaking for himself on all matters outside the trial. He is tired of the circus-like atmosphere."

La Jolla FarmsKing Of Pop Rumored To Be At Farms Mansion. 11-02-'04

Michael Jackson is rumored to be staying in La Jolla as the guest of supermarket magnet Ron Burkle, NBC 7/39 reported Wednesday.

Burkle's $30 million mansion is perched on 5 acres overlooking the Pacific. The 26,000-square-foot mansion is in the secluded enclave of La Jolla Farms.

"It's a free country, he's free to come and go in Mr. Burkle's home, if he wants to host him," said La Jolla resident Edith Kodmur. "It doesn't bother me at all."

Other residents say they do not believe the rumor, citing the fact there has been little commotion or presence by the Nation of Islam, the group that often travels with Jackson as his bodyguard.

Jackson is scheduled to reappear in court in February to face child molestation charges.

Jackson's Bodyguards Threatened With Legal Action If They Don't Talk. 11-02-'04

Michael Jackson's bodyguards Frank Tyson and Vinnie Amen have been ordered to reveal all they know about the troubled singer - or risk serious charges.

Santa Barbara, California, authorities are convinced the pair have information that could help prosecutors build a case against the pop superstar in his upcoming child molestation case.

And they have vowed Tyson and Amen will be charged with "obstruction of justice, intimidating a witness and kidnapping" if they don't comply.

The mother of the boy accusing Jackson of child molestation claims Tyson and Amen were given the job of watching over her family when they were "imprisoned" at the pop superstar's Neverland Ranch home last year (03).

The duo have hired tough New York attorney Joe Tacopina to protest their innocence in the alleged kidnapping.

Tacopina says, "They work for Michael and they have a lot of credibility issues with the mother of this child. There's no question in my mind that they're totally innocent."

Tyson and Amen claim that if the victim's family was intimidated in any way, Jackson's business manager Dieter Wiesner is to blame.

Geraldo Talks With Michael Jackson. 08-02-'04

Geraldo Rivera, host of US TV programme At Large With Geraldo, revealed on his show that aired February 7th, that he had in fact spoken to Michael Jackson earlier that day in a telephone conversation.

"Before I get to what was actually said, let me make clear that everyone involved was acutely aware of the court imposed gag order and they all bent over backwards to say nothing that would violate that order or anger the Judge", Rivera said.

"Michael Jackson tells me he is "not happy." In an exclusive telephone conversation with the entertainer… (Michael) made clear that his current situation is taking its toll on his mental and physical state." Rivera goes on, "Sounding tired and deeply
depressed, as much by unauthorised people speaking for him as the case against him."

Michael apparently told Rivera "These are fabrications. This is a conspiracy to break me down."

Geraldo Rivera
The telephone conversation was not broadcast on air, but Geraldo Rivera quoted excerpts from his conversation with Michael as he described some of the public appearances by many people claiming to speak on behalf of the King of Pop.

The show contained input from guests as well as the host himself, "Let me talk about the status of the legal case against the entertainer," Rivera said, "although the true extent obviously of Jackson's legal woes will only become apparent when Santa Barbara's District Attorney finally presents his case at (the) preliminary hearing – if there is one, it is clear that almost three months after the entertainer was arrested… the DA Tom Sneddon… his investigators are still scrambling to find evidence to corroborate their charges. Rivera continues, "the Jackson camp also tells me that the cops came up empty in that search of Neverland Ranch."

According to Rivera's source, (apparently from the heart of the Jackson camp) "the Defence team is ready for the February 13th court date. Although, Michael himself will probably not be present, having signed a waver of appearance."

Michael Jackson burst into tears when his manager informed him he was being dragged into a new child molestation scandal.

German svengali Dieter Wiesner says revealed the King of Pop was "scared" when he told him of a nasty court case heading his way.

Wiesner will appear on tonight's (February 8) Dateline news show, talking about the moment he broke the news to Jackson.

The German says, "He was shocked. It was really scary and he started crying. I said, 'There's a problem and now's the time you can clean up everything.'"

Jackson Denies 'Rift' Between He And Family Members. 06-02-'04

Jackson issued a brief statement denying rumors he said recently surfaced that a "rift" has developed between himself, members of his family and the Nation of Islam, whose members have been providing him security. "Let me state for the record, this is not true.

There is no 'rift,' Jackson said. "If my friends love me as much as they've indicated, then they'd do me a great favor by not being so eager to air their personal concerns about me in the media, which will avoid causing me further embarrassment," he added.
