Joseph and Katherine Jackson
Michael's parents Joseph and Katherine married on November 5, 1949.

Jackon's Family Secrets Revealed. 29-10-'04

Michael Jackson's teen years have been profiled in books and movies. But until now, it's never been revealed that his parents, Katherine and Joseph, were nearly divorced when he was 15 years old.

According to legal documents obtained by this column, Katherine Jackson, disgusted by her husband's philandering, obtained a petition for divorce on March 9, 1973, and filed it with the Los Angeles County clerk.

According to several people I've spoken with in the last few days, Katherine Jackson was finally convinced to rescind the divorce papers at the urging of elders at her Jehovah's Witnesses church.

Katherine also attempted to divorce her husband in or around 1979, but again was persuaded to drop the action, my sources said.

One motivation for Katherine's unhappiness, at least in the second instance, was the revelation that her husband had fathered a love child with his mistress.

That child, a girl named Joh'Vonnie Jackson, is now 30, lives with Joseph Jackson in Las Vegas and for some time worked at that city's McCarran International Airport. Joh'Vonnie's mother is Cheryl Terrell.

Joseph Jackson's extramarital affairs, including one with a Motown Records assistant named Gina Sprague, have been detailed in a TV movie about the Jackson family as well as in several books, including one by the Jacksons' daughter LaToya.

In her 1990 memoir "Growing Up in the Jackson Family," LaToya wrote that during the tumultuous early 70's, when the Jackson 5 were busy accumulating hits and touring all over the world, her mother never considered divorce. The papers indicate otherwise.

"That was all in LaToya's book," Jackson's spokeswoman told me yesterday and promised to get back to me.

Joh'Vonnie Jackson, according to my sources, has held several positions at McCarran Airport, including working as a baggage handler. She is not included in Jackson family events and has never visited Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch.

When the Jackson siblings appear in court together to show solidarity for Michael, Joh'Vonnie is not present. As far as I can tell, neither Michael nor Janet has ever referred to Joh'Vonnie in any interviews.

On Katherine Jackson's 1973 divorce petition, she listed the five of her nine children who were still minors at the time: LaToya, Marlon, Michael, Steven (aka Randy) and Janet.

Rebbie, Tito, Jackie, and Jermaine were all over 18 by that time. Joh'Vonnie, the youngest child of Joseph Jackson, is eight years the junior of Janet, who was born in 1966.

Even though neither of Katherine Jackson's divorce petitions was ever finalized, the couple do not live together, insiders say.

Katherine spends most of her time in Encino, Calif., and Joseph lives in Las Vegas. His wife was not present this year when he had his annual birthday bash in Sin City.

MJ KidsJackson's Children To Meet Their Mother. 27-10-'04

Two of Michael Jackson's children will finally get to meet up with their mother Debbie Rowe for the first time in close to four years.

US Weekly reports that in a closed courtroom on 22 October, judge Stephen M Lachs ruled that seven-year-old Prince Michael and Paris, six, can visit former dermatologist's nurse Rowe - possibly before Jackson's child molestation trial begins in January (05).

A source says, "They will finally get to know that (rowe) is there for them. Michael can no longer keep the children from their mother."

Rowe, who was married to Jackson from 1996 to 1999, is keen to reverse a custody settlement she signed off on the couple's two children. She now wants an active role in their lives.

Jermaine Refutes Malicious Quotes. 28-10-'04

Jermaine Jackson has issued a statement denying recent quotes in publications about his brother Michael.

"Recent stories in the National Enquirer, London Sun, and other media outlets have attributed quotes to me stating that I thought my brother Michael would commit suicide if he is convicted. These thoughts have never entered my thinking."

Jackson's Camp To Slow With Counter-Proofs. 26-10-'04

The accuser Sneddon tells that the team of defence of Michael Jackson waited too long to deliver up the proofs which are necessary for the investigation. They have introduced a motion by the judge that Jackson's lawyers must deliver immediately the proofs.

The accusers are telling that they have given Michael's defence more than 12.000 pages on documents and statements, with more than 200 pictures and and a lot of CD-ROMS, but also sound/- and images put on video tapes are making part of the investigation. Court has given the order to both sides to end their investigation before November 5th.

But the accusers are telling that again and again is been told that the defence has nothing to hand over, this you can read in a statement of court which was released last Thursday. "This case is almost introduced a year ago", writes lawyer Gordon Auchincloss in his motion for the court.

Michael Jackson Attorneys
Michael Jackson defense attorneys, Brian Oxman (C), Susan Yu (R) and Thomas Mesereau (L), depart the Santa Maria Courthouse.

Since that time, the suspect has taken service of 6 different firms of lawyers and at least 10 lawyers, plus detectives to work for him", writes Auchincloss. "On this late moment in time it is really incredible that he has not one witness or proof what can presenting him". Jackson's lawyers have often complained about the materials what they have received from the accusers and that they have never been forced to offer the materials 30 days before the hearing.

In a motion that has been offered, which is subjoined to court, the accusers has been asking if the defence would offer them the materials, as example the names of the "pretended" witnesses are very important in this case, but also the rough subjects of the psycho tests which are managed by Jackson's defence. On November 4 and 5th are there two new hearings planned in court.

Jackson Forbidden From Choosing Court Artist. 25-10-'04

Michael Jackson's has been forbidden from personally choosing the artist that sketches him during his child molestation court case.

Robles drew his way into a business that barely existed until he put pencil to paper. it was Robles who captured what cameras could not.

Michael requested permission to select the court artist and vet the drawings before they are released to the media, but Judge Rodney Melville refused to hear the application.

A Santa Monica court spokesperson says, "We do not allow defendants - or anyone else - to choose who does the daily sketches. the judge will not even hear an application to that effect."

Brian Oxman

Oxman On His Way Out? 22-10-'04

The latest from Jackson Insider Roger Friedman:
"Jackson Defense Lawyer Shakeup?

I told you the other day that the upheavals in Michael Jackson’s defense team emanated from Brian Oxman, attorney for Randy Jackson. Rumor has it that Oxman had Michael’s long time lawyers Steve Cochran and Zia Modabber forced off the case.

Watch how things start to happen in the next few days. Weekend meetings at Neverland may have awakened Michael from his Peter Pan slumber. Oxman could be on his way out now too, but getting Modabber and Cochran to return may not be so easy.

According to my sources, they haven’t been paid for their work in some time. They join a long list of people that Randy Jackson has simply not dealt with and that effort to cut costs by avoiding bills has made a lot of enemies of former friends and Jackson loyalists, my sources say."

Jackson's Family Fear For His Life. 20-10-'04

Michael Jackson's family are reportedly terrified he'll be driven to suicide if he's found guilty of molesting a child.

Michael faces a trial next year (January 05) to take on charges he sexually abused a teenage boy at his Neverland Ranch home in Santa Barbara, California.

Close relatives are gathering on a weekly basis to discuss how best to keep Jackson's spirits high, reports Britain's The Sun newspaper.

However, Jackson's brother Jermaine is convinced the pop legend will lose his will to live if he's convicted of the accusations levelled against him.

A source quoting Jermaine tells The Sun, "Michael ain't going to jail, he's going to commit suicide first."

'Just Lose It' Video Clip

Jackson Is Feeling The Effects Of Fame's Fickle Nature. 20-10-'04

That strange cackling noise you might have detected wafting from the south late last week came from MTV executives in New York laughing their heads off after Michael Jackson demanded that the cable channel pull Eminem's latest video.

In the clip for 'Just Lose It,' Eminem mocks several celebrities, including MC Hammer and Pee Wee Herman, but he saves his sharpest jabs for Jackson. Dressed as the entertainer, Eminem's hair catches fire, as Jackson's did during an accident while filming a Pepsi commercial. Later, his nose flies off, and is booted and squashed on a dance floor -- a not-so-subtle reference to Jackson's surgically tortured face.

But what has Jackson most upset are scenes featuring Eminem, in Jackson garb, sitting on the edge of a bed as young boys bounce on the mattress behind him. At one point in the song, Eminem raps, "Come on, little kiddie, on my lap." Facing child-molestation charges, Jackson clearly isn't in a mood to just laugh it off.

"I am very angry at Eminem's depiction of me in his video," Jackson told comedian Steve Harvey on Harvey's Los Angeles radio show. "I feel that it is outrageous and disrespectful. It is one thing to spoof, but it is another to be demeaning and insensitive."

So last week, Jackson demanded that all music cable networks remove 'Just Lose It' from their rotations. Only Black Entertainment Television (BET) has agreed to do so, citing their long relationship with Jackson and an unwillingness to "disparage Michael's character, or that of any other celebrity." But neither MTV nor VH1 has any intention of pulling the video. In fact, between 7 and 9 a.m. Monday, the channels aired Eminem's video at least three times.

Jackson's Prosecutors Ordered To Reveal Informers. 18-10-'04

The judge in Michael Jackson's child molestation case has ordered prosecutors to disclose the identities of the secret informers who sparked the investigation.

Michael's legal team complained prosecutors were delaying the trial by refusing to reveal who the confidential informants were, Judge Rodney Melville has consequently told prosecutor Tom Sneddon to hand over all outstanding documents and evidence.

Jackson's lawyer Susan Yu says, "We are here to seek the truth, to defend an innocent person who is falsely accused."

Melville complained, "I am not interested in continuing this case beyond the trial date. That would be punishing me for your failure to comply with the rules. I'm not doing that."

Michael Jackson

Mr. Michael Jackson releases the following statement regarding long time attorney and friend, Steve Cochran:

“I have known Steve Cochran for many years, and he is a wonderful person and dedicated lawyer. He continues to be my friend and close advisor.

“My defense team will continue to be led by Thomas Mesereau, Jr. I have the greatest faith and trust in Tom, and the other members of my team.”

Attorney Leaves Jackson's Defense Team. 16-10-'04

One of the attorneys representing pop superstar Michael Jackson in his child molestation case has left the defense team, sources familiar with the case said Friday (October 15).

Los Angeles attorney Steve Cochran, a longtime Jackson representative, was one of five lawyers defending Jackson against a 10-count indictment that includes charges of child molestation.

Cochran was one of two lawyers retained when Jackson changed his defense team last April, replacing lead attorneys Mark Geragos and Benjamin Brafman. Jackson kept Cochran and Santa Barbara attorney Robert Sanger.

Following Thursday's court hearing, attorneys met privately with Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Rodney S. Melville.

The judge was advised of Cochran's departure during the meeting, sources said.

Cochran has represented Jackson on a variety of legal matters, having first served as one of the attorneys helping to defend him against allegations of child abuse in 1993.

He has also represented many celebrities, including Charlie Sheen, Britney Spears, Forest Whitaker and Paul Rodriguez, and he is an attorney for NBC-Universal Studios.

Jackson representatives were expected to release a statement on Cochran's departure later Friday (October 15).

LawsuitNew Hearing Begins With New Rule. 14-10-'04

Today another hearing in the child molestation case against Michael Jackson took place in Santa Maria. The present audience had to follow a new rule in order to not being kicked out of the courtroom.

The new rule prohibits everyone on court to talk or say anything to each other, even before the hearing has begun. It’s not known why the judge set this new rule.

During the hearing, judge Rodney S. Melville ordered prosecutors to give the defendants the names of confidential witnesses in the case. Even though their names had to be kept secret, DA Tom Sneddon revealed that the alleged victim's stepfather is one of those witnesses. According to news reports Sneddon became very frustrated after he realized his error.

Furthermore, the judge said he wouldn’t allow complaints from Michael's legal team about prosecutors not sharing their evidence quickly enough to the defense, which derails the planned trial date, due January 31st. "That would be punishing me for your failure...

It's not in the interest of anybody to prolong this litigation. I'm very serious about it," he said.
The next hearing will take place at November 4th , the motion of Michael's attorneys to have Sneddon removed from the case, will be the issue then.

A Paper Life Book CoverTatum O'Neal Contradicts Jackson's Seduction Story. 12-10-'04

Hollywood star Tatum O'neal has rubbished Michael Jackson's claims she attempted to lure him to her house and seduce him - because she was just 12 years old.

The Paper Moon actress, 40, writes about her encounter with the then-17-year-old Thriller star - who's preparing to fight child molestation charges in court - in her autobiography 'A Paper Life'.

Contrary to Jackson's version of events, O'Neal insists at 12 years old a sexual encounter with the singer was never going to happen, and it was actually him who tried to kiss her.

O'Neal says, "I was just twelve and not at all ready for a real-life encounter.

"Michael, who was sweating profusely, seemed as intimidated as I was. He jumped up nervously and said, 'Uh... gotta go.'"
