2 Seas RecordsNew Collaboration Reports One Big Prank? 28-04-'06

News that surfaced a few days ago claiming that a Michael Jackson and G-Unit mix-tape was due out this year may have been one huge prank according to MTV.com.

Reported by (amongst others) usually reliable news outlets Billboard.com and Rolling Stone Magazine, the news is said to have been sent in a press release claiming it was from Michael's new label Two Seas Records. "I do not know who put this story out, certainly not us," Two Seas spokesperson Sue Harris said. "But it doesn't surprise me!"

One of the main topics of the report claimed that G-Unit's DJ Whoo Kid was the one mixing tracks, including a song featuring Michael, 50 Cent and Lucy Diamonds. "I don't know who made that up," the DJ said. "I don't know who Lucy Diamonds is." However, Whoo Kid had been in talks with Michael about a possible collaboration with 50 Cent when the two met each other in Bahrain last month meaning a possible release is not entirely out of the question.

Spokesperson for Lucy Diamonds, Jonathan Hay, also responded to the reports, "How are they saying it is a 50/ MJ/ Lucy song? ... This whole thing is freaking strange." He continued, "This isn't good because Lucy is talking to (50 Cent's music industry rival) Game, she's been talking to Game for a while," Hay said. "So she won't be on that mix-tape, not unless they stole her song."

Two Seas spokesperson Harris refused to comment on any possible collaboration, promising to remain quiet about anything regarding a Michael recording, "As far as we are concerned, details regarding the recording of Michael Jackson's albums are being kept under wraps," Harris said. "We will not be making any comments as to who may or may not be working with Michael Jackson in the studio. We will not be making any announcements, nor will we be reacting to any speculation or reports in the media."

Michael Loses Logo To German Fan. 26-04-'06

As if he didn't have enough problems, Michael Jackson's German logo has been sold to a stranger.

Wolfgang Rath, who owned the rights to the MJ logo in Germany, sold them at auction this week. The winning bid was a mere 85,000 euros, about $105,600. The name of the winner has not yet been revealed.

Jackson remains popular in Germany, with potential business ventures. Rath was surprised the rights to the logo went for so little, but he was even more shocked that neither Jackson nor any of his representatives tried to join the auction.

Rath also found it odd that Sony Music didn't try and buy the logo, since it is currently stamped on a box set of singles issued in Germany.

The new owner can now do what he pleases with it, so any kind of merchandise can now be issued in Germany under Jackson's name.

MJ Re-Opens Neverland. 25-04-'06

Michael Jackson has quietly reopened Neverland Ranch, staffing it with a skeleton crew to care for the animals, state officials said.

The state labour board shut down the ranch near Santa Barbara last month for failure to pay worker's compensation insurance to cover 49 employees.

Jackson was forced to pay $49,000 in fines before he was allowed to reopen Neverland - with 10 workers hired through a staffing agency, according to state labour authorities.

2 Seas RecordsNew Collaboration To Be Released This Year. 25-04-'06

A new collaboration involving Michael Jackson, G-Unit's DJ Whoo Kid and other artists may be out later this year, according to Billboard.com.

Whoo Kid is said to be making a mix tape titled MJ Unit - The Takeover, and will feature unreleased material of Michael's as well as tracks mixing older Michael and G-Unit songs.

As previously reported, Michael and Whoo Kid happened to meet last month in Bahrain and a conversation about a possible collaboration was struck up then. On that occasion, the DJ set up a phone conversation between Michael and G-Unit's most famous rapper, 50 Cent.

The Takeover will also apparently feature other artists such as Lloyd Banks, Mase, Young Buck, Mobb Deep, M.O.P., as well as 50 Cent himself and up and coming artist Lucy Diamonds. The release will be through Interscope as well as the Two Seas record label, Michael's new venture with the Prince of Bahrain.

Diamonds (pictured left) has previously worked with long-time sound engineer to Michael, Bruce Swedien, and is said to be featuring on one of Michael's unreleased tracks - apparently titled Trial Of The Century. Whoo Kid will be heading to Bahrain in two weeks to collect tracks Michael has been working on in his home studio.

According to sources of Billboard.com, a date of November 21st has been pencilled in for the first single release from Michael's own solo album, a song called Now That I Found Love. The track is said to have been produced by Michael and Swedien. However, when the album was first announced, it was said the release date had hoped to be by "late 2007."

At the time of writing, 50 Cent's spokesperson has stressed that the artist has not committed to the mix tape, or to any possible collaboration that would feature on Michael's new solo album.

Michael JacksonMichael Jackson Molestation Case Dismissed. 17-04-'06

In the latest in the "jump on the bandwagon" allegations, a New Orleans man has been shut down while attempting to claim that Michael Jackson kidnapped and molested him back in 1984.

Federal Judge Eldon Fallon tossed out a lawsuit filed by Joseph Bartucci that claimed that Bartucci was forced into a limo on May 19, 1984, driven against his will and molested while being held at gunpoint.

Bartucci was claiming emotional and physical trauma brought about by memories resurfaced by viewing a Court TV show about the molestation trial in California. Michael Jackson was fully acquitted in the case.

Fallon reported that Wayne Nagin, Michael’s security specialist in spring of 1984, provided statements reporting that Michael rehearsed in California for the Victory Tour May 20 – 27, 1984.

The calendar clearly shows appointments scheduled each day during this period, according to the judge. Moreover, he says, Charilette R. Sweeney of Encino, Ca, swore that she had known Michael since 1976 and remembers speaking to him on May 12, 17, and 20 of 1984 regarding receiving an award from then President Ronald Reagan on May 14 of that year.
This all proves conclusively that Michael was in California from May 19 to May 27 and could not have been in New Orleans to engage in the events described by Bartucci.

In a counter to this evidence, Bartucci provided only Michael Boudreaux, a retired New Orleans Levee Board officer, who said that he say a limo with California plates near the Convention Center in the spring of 1984 and that the driver told him that Michael Jackson was inside. Bourdreaux could not provide exact dates and never saw or spoke to Michael Jackson.

Michael’s lead attorney, Charles Fenner Gay Jr. said that "There is no question we believe the entire case is trumped up by Mr. Bartucci."

The Beatles CatalogueSony Get Jackson's Beatles Catalogue. 15-04-'06

Michael Jackson has made a deal to restructure his huge debts, his advisors said, amid reports that the fallen King of Pop will have to sell off part of his rights to Beatles' and other hits.

Jackson's lawyers released a statement in Bahrain late Thursday (April 13) announcing that the singer had made a financing agreement with the help of Sony Corporation of America.

The two are co-owners of Sony/ATV Music Publishing that has the rights to thousands of songs, including 251 songs by the Beatles and other major hits such as Bob Dylan's 'Blowin' In The Wind'.

The statement said details of the accord would not be released.

But The Los Angeles Times newspaper said that under the 325 million-dollar refinancing, Jackson would have to sell half of his 50 percent stake in the publishing concern over the next few years to Sony Corp.

The Times called it "a coup for Sony" which will get control of the song catalog now worth an estimated one billion dollars.
Jackson has been struggling with mounting debt in recent years. His successful defence of child sex charges last year only added to his financial worries.

Last month, the singer all but closed his sprawling Neverland Ranch after California authorities threatened to sue over unpaid wages to employees.

Jackson has been living in Bahrain most of the time since the court case, which came as a major blow to his career.

"Michael Jackson is pleased to announce that he has restructured his finances with the assistance of Sony Corporation of America, the long time co-owner of Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC," said the statement released by Jackson's lawyers in Bahrain.

About 270 million dollars in Jackson's debt to Bank of America was to have been paid in December, media reports said. Bank of America sold the debt to Fortress Investment.

It said the loan's interest rate had increased to about 20 percent a year and the total amount owed is now more than 300 million dollars.

Jackson bought ATV for 45 million dollars in 1985. It had the Beatles' publishing company as well as copyrights on more than 4,000 songs by other artists.

Over the years, his advisors have added the copyrights of Elvis Presley songs and such tunes as 'Great Balls Of Fire', 'When A Man Loves A Woman' and 'Love Train'.

ATV merged with Sony Music Publishing in 1995.

Sony paid Jackson 115 million dollars and agreed to contribute future compositions by other artists. Now Jackson profits from the tunes of Destiny's Child. The Sony/ATV catalog generates an estimated 80 million dollars in yearly revenue, about half from Beatles songs, the Los Angeles Times said.

It added that Sony/ATV's revenue has been growing at about 10 percent a year over the past two years.

Michael JacksonA Hard Day's Night For Michael Jackson. 13-04-'06

Singer Michael Jackson is close to a deal that would help him to avert bankruptcy by refinancing hundreds of millions of dollars in loans, according to news reports Thursday.

The New York Times, citing people briefed on the plan, said the ongoing negotiations would also require him at some point in the future to offer Sony Corp. part of his interest in a song catalog that includes scores of hits from The Beatles.

Jackson would agree to provide Sony, which is co-owner of the Sony/ATV Music catalog, with an option to buy about 25 percent of the catalog, or half of his stake, at a set price, the Times said.

Jackson bought the catalog 21 years ago at a price far below its current $1 billion valuation. To this day, it generates revenue for Sony every time one of its songs is played on the radio, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Jackson and Sony officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Michael JacksonJackson Fights Back In Custody Battle. 11-04-'06

Michael Jackson has entered the battle for custody of his children after filing a petition against his ex-wife Debbie Rowe.

The reclusive pop superstar filed a Petition For Review with the California State Supreme Court on Friday (April 14), asking officials to review an earlier decision that helps clear the way for Rowe to argue for custody rights to the couple's kids, Prince Michael and Paris.

Rowe came one step closer to seeing the children she conceived with Jackson in February after a California appellate court ruled she could challenge a binding agreement she made with Jackson.

Rowe gave up parental rights to her children in 2001, but recently began trying to have those rights returned to her following concerns about her ex-husband's links to the Nation Of Islam.

A California Family Law Court will determine what Rowe's rights are now.

Rowe and Jackson were married from 1996 to 2000.

R. KellyR. Kelly Accused Of Plagiarism For 'You Are Not Alone'. 07-04-'06

R. Kelly presented Michael Jackson with, 'You Are Not Alone', but twin brothers, Eddy and Danny Van Passel, say the composition belongs to them.

Comment The Van Passel brothers - veteran authors, composers, music publishers and producers - originally composed 'If We Can Start All Over', which sounds eerily similar to what Kelly presented the King of Pop with. That’s why the brothers have filed a suit against Kelly, which is currently being held before the Court of Appeal in Brussels, Belgium.

"If you play 'If We Can Start All Over', for everybody, everybody will say it’s 'You Are Not Alone'," Danny Van Passel told Vibe.com via an exclusive phone interview. “It’s identical and I can’t say more than that, except it’s a protected copyright and you should get permission first before you use it and R. Kelly didn't ask for permission."

The Van Passel brothers are not alone in feeling they were robbed by Kelly. In Sept. 1995, the Belgian right society confirmed after close examination of both songs that the largest part of the melody of the 1995 song, 'You Are Not Alone', is identical to the 1993 Van Passel composition, 'If We Can Start All Over'.

"The best-case scenario will be for the law to say R. Kelly has no rights (to the song) and for all the rights, 100 percent of the rights to go to the original composers, which are us," Danny Van Passel said. “Our songs are published in more than 100 countries, in more than 20 different languages. We’re in the business since 1978, so we’re professionals."

Michael JacksonWhat Becomes A Legend Most? 05-04-'06

Michael Jackson is leaving New York today. He’s been staying at the Trump International Hotel in Columbus Circle, presumably at the expense of Prince Abdullah of Bahrain. MiJac (we’re tired of calling him Jacko) is going back to Bahrain now to continue playing court jester.

But his legal troubles in the U.S. are mounting: a June 2 court date has been set in the Marc Schaffel $4 million lawsuit in Los Angeles. If Jackson doesn’t show up, Schaffel’s lawyers will play the video deposition the singer gave last September 05). It’s a doozy, I hear.

And what’s Michael been doing in New York? I’m told he recorded John Legend on that Katrina charity single which still has not been released. Hurricane Katrina occurred on Aug. 31, 2005, by the way.

Anyway, that single should be coming out any day now, maybe in time for the next hurricane season. Why or how Legend got involved in this long-running debacle is anyone’s guess. But the pair met in Bahrain during that F1 racing weekend.

I get my information DIRECTLY from Mr. Jackson and Prince Abdulla. There is no April 25, 2006 release date. When the record is released, it will be done consistent w/ all of Mr. Jackson's releases and not only to a station in Indianapolis."
