Michael JacksonJackson: 'I Paid Schaffel'. 30-06-'06

Michael Jackson is "sure" he paid former associate Marc Schaffel for his services, a California court heard yesterday (June 29).

Schaffel claims he is owed $3.8 million in unpaid loans and expenses, unpaid salary for a charity record and a share of proceeds from two TV programme's produced to repair Jackson's image, following the damning British documentary 'Living With Michael Jackson' - which prompted the child molestation investigation into Jackson.

In Santa Monica yesterday, Schaffel's lawyer Howard King said his client had been "left holding the bag". King said, "Schaffel was asked to do crisis control." However, Jackson claims Schaffel owes him money, not the other way around. He has filed a counter-claim alleged Schaffel kept sculptures and paintings worth $250,000.

In a videotaped testimony taped in London in September (05), Jackson said, "I know he wanted something from me, of course. "I do remember these long letters. He wanted me to pay him." When King asked Michael singer if he paid Schaffel, Jackson replied, "I'm sure he got money... (I'm sure) because he always seemed to be happy." Jackson's lawyer Thomas Mundell contended the singer is forgetful, which allowed Schaffel to fraudulently move funds from Jackson's accounts for himself and bill the star for expenses after their business relationship ended. The trial continues.

Marc SchaffelUpdate Marc Schaffel's Case. 30-06-'06

Michael Jackson will appear via videotaped deposition only in the upcoming lawsuit scheduled to go to trial this week. Michael provided that deposition at London's Dorchester Hotel.

Michael is being sued by Marc Shaffel for $3.8 million for what Schaffel claims are unpaid loans and expenses, included salary on 'What More Can I Give' and the proceeds from the two rebuttal productions following the grossly skewed Bashir documentary.

Schaffel claims that he was guaranteed a salary of $375,000 a year for three years plus royalties on Michael's records and videos he produced. In depositions, Schaffel claims that he received only $75,000 a year plus some reimbursements for money he advanced to Michael and for his projects.

Among the unreimbursed expenses he lists are legal fees of $74,000 incurred when Schaffel was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the 2005 molestation trial. Michael Jackson was acquitted on all counts.

Supporting evidence will examine Michael's spending habits. The AP report cited the inclusion of a $1 million payment to Marlon Brando for his appearance at the Madison Square Garden concert. Schaffel claims that he received a call from Brando, enquiring about his payment.

Michael is counter suing Schaffel, claiming that he misappropriated art works belonging to Michael, mishandled finances and records and engaged in "self-dealing."

The trial is expected to last about 12 days.

Jackson in Ierland
Michael and his 3 children at Cork airport.

Jackson And His Children In Ireland. 25-06-'06

Michael Jackson flew into Cork airport yesterday (June 24) and was last night holidaying in the county with his three children as he prepared to attend Bob Dylan concerts in Kilkenny and Cork over the weekend.

Jackson was accompanied by his three children, Prince Michael I, Paris Michael and Prince Michael II, along with a number of personal assistants on a scheduled Aer Lingus flight from Charles de Gaul airport in Paris to Cork yesterday afternoon.
They arrived at Cork airport at about 4.10pm and were collected by a chauffeur-driven mini-bus. It was widely speculated last night that they were staying at the historic Blackwater Castle in Castletownroche, north Cork.

The castle was built by the Roche family in 1291 when they established a Norman settlement in the area. It was recently refurbished and offers high-quality accommodation overlooking the Awbeg river.

However, the owner of Blackwater Castle, Patrick Nordstrom, said last night he had received several media queries about Jackson and, while there appeared to be "a VIP hunt" for the pop star, he wasn't staying at the castle. "I think I would know if he was staying here - I would be flattered if he was but there isn't anyone here at the moment except my dog," said Mr Nordstrom, who admitted he was considering taking the phone off the hook because of all the media queries.

A spokeswoman for Aiken Promotions confirmed to The Irish Times that Jackson would be attending the Bob Dylan concert at Nowlan Park in Kilkenny today and the Live in the Marquee concert in Cork tomorrow night.

Janet ArvizoWelfare Fraud Trial Set For Janet Arvizo. 21-06-'06

The woman who claimed Michael Jackson molested her son, leading to the sensational trial a year ago at which the singer was acquitted, was ordered Wednesday to stand trial on a charge of welfare fraud.

The attorney for the 37-year-old woman, whose name by marriage is Janet Jackson, entered a not guilty plea on her behalf. She did not speak during the arraignment.

She is accused of one charge related to accepting $8,000 in fraudulently obtained assistance and four charges of committing perjury on welfare applications.

Prosecutors say she hid the fact that she received a substantial settlement in a lawsuit against J.C. Penney before she filed for welfare.

Her lawyer, Patricia Hattersley, said outside court that she hopes the case can be resolved without a trial.

"We are open to discussions," Hattersley said. "Her position is she never misrepresented anything intentionally."

The prosecutor's office said the case will go to trial unless she makes restitution.

The trial is scheduled for Aug. 7. However, the trial date could be postponed to within 30 days of that date, Superior Court Judge Barbara Johnson said.

During Michael Jackson's trial last year, the woman invoked Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination and refused to testify about the welfare questions.

The singer was acquitted of the child molestation charges last year. Many jurors said a lack of credibility on the part of the woman and her children were major factors in the verdicts. The defense portrayed her as a con artist who schemed to get money from celebrities and through fraudulent legal claims.

The Associated Press has withheld the identities of the accuser and his siblings, who have a last name different from their mother's.

Marc SchaffelMarc Schaffel Case. 21-06-'06

Michael Jackson will not be appearing in court any time soon.

"To my knowledge, he's not scheduled for any court appearances," said Jackson's spokeswoman, Raymone K. Bain. She said that Jackson, who has been living in Bahrain, is travelling in Europe. He has answered questions twice in depositions in London.

Marc Schaffel is suing Michael for $3.8 million in what Schaffel says are unrepaid loans and expenses, unpaid salary for work on a charity record and his share of proceeds from two TV specials.

Jury selection is set for June 26.

Bad blood prevails as Schaffel's lawyers continue to paint MJ as a spendthrift and Michael maintains that Schaffel defrauded him and hid facts of his allegedly shady past.

"This case is deceptively simple," Jackson's lawyer, Thomas C. Mundell, said in his trial brief. "Stripped to its essentials, it is an accounting case, albeit one with an overlay of fraud, deception and self-dealing on the part of plaintiff Marc Schaffel."

TigersMichael's Animals Leave Neverland. 19-06-'06

Michael Jackson's pet tigers just Beat It from Neverland Ranch to a new home.

'The Birds' star Tippi Hedren has adopted the orphaned Bengal pair, Sabu and Thriller, at her Acton, California, feline sanctuary.

Hedren, an animal activist who runs the Shambala Preserve, took in the seven-year-old males late last month, Dr Martin Dinnes, Jackson's longtime veterinarian and Hedren's fiance, told the New York Daily News.

"They are very happy at Shambala. It's a great environment," said Dinnes, who has cared for Jackson's zoo animals for 18 years and is working to find them good homes.

Hedren, 76, best known for starring roles in Alfred Hitchcock's thrillers The Birds and Marnie, plans to build a special $95,000 compound for the tigers.

The mother of actress Melanie Griffith runs the 32-hectare sanctuary on donations raised by her non-profit Roar Foundation.

Jackson moved to Bahrain in the Middle East last year after his acquittal on child-molestation charges, leaving behind a host of exotic creatures at Neverland, including elephants, giraffes, orangutans, birds, reptiles, horses and pet deer.

"No matter what financial troubles existed, the zoo never suffered," said Dinnes, who looks after the brood.

"There has never been a lapse in the animals' care or feeding. I visit about once a week."

So far, new homes had been found for several other Neverland animals, Dinnes said.

The singer's 14-year-old African bull elephant, Ali, was donated to a Jacksonville, Florida, zoo.

A female elephant, Baba, also 14, was sold to a new owner who paired her with a gal pal called Susie.

Neverland's horses were donated to a children's riding program.

Four giraffes, two orangutans, several parrots, reptiles and deer are still at Jackson's ranch.

Dinnes says he is in no rush to place them.

"We're being really, really fussy about where they go. We want the best possible environments. Michael is adamant about that."

Each year, Hedren raises $1.5 million to run the preserve, which rescues abandoned and abused lions, tigers, cougars and other big cats, many of which are purchased as pets when they are cubs then abandoned when they get big.

Michael JacksonMichael Jackson Sued For Stalking. 17-06-'06

Michael is being sued for $100 million for stalking, like having a woman’s car keyed and sending her nasty messages via radio station requests.

Um, right. Oh, Michael. I don’t know what it is about you that attracts the crazies and the golddiggers, but here they come again. Jackson is being sued for $100 million by Helen Harris-Scott, who claims he harassed and stalked her. Harris-Scott states in her lawsuit that she moved to LA in 1985 and began sending Jackson cards “declaring my love and admiration.”

Jackson then responded to her through “others who would call me and hint, and ask questions.” One of these “others” told Harris-Scott to listen to a radio station “where Michael would dedicate songs, and communicate through music.” Much to her chagrin, according to Harris-Scott, Michael sent her “‘you’re not good enough’ type messages.”

She moved to San Francisco to leave this heartache behind, but she says the harassment continued, even grew. Her car was keyed, her tires popped, and her doorbell rung, things clearly only a superstar like Michael Jackson is capable of having done.

She also claims that Jackson had her home wiretapped, and that he tracked her every move using GPS. Harris-Scott further states that the FBI “know[s] the truth,” though an FBI spokeswoman would not confirm or deny an investigation regarding the singer. The woman writes “Michael Jackson feels he’s above the love.” And if that’s not a crime worth $100 million, I don’t know what is.

David Gest Slams Jackson Childhood Abuse Claims. 12-06-'06

Music promoter David Gest has slammed Michael Jackson's claims he was abused by his father as "preposterous". Liza Minnelli's estranged husband grew up next door to the Jacksons in Encino, California, and even dated Michael's sister LaToya. Gest insists Joe Jackson was a tough father but he only administered discipline when it was warranted. He says, "Contrary to what they write, I was there and I never saw the abuse.

"Joe was a tough father but he wanted the best for his children. "Did he spank them? Yes. Did he hit them? Yes. Did he beat them to death? No. And I don't believe he ever abused LaToya or tried to have sex with her; I find that preposterous."

Uri GellerUri Geller: 'Michael Jackson Has Made Devastating Mistakes'. 09-06-'06

Celebrity psychic Uri Geller has hit out at former pal Michael Jackson, insisting the troubled pop star has made some "devastating mistakes" in his life.

Geller, who has not spoken to the singer since his controversial interview with Martin Bashir, claims Jackson has proved too much of a liability to be associated with him. Although the paranormalist still maintains Jackson's innocence in the string of child sex abuse scandals that have dogged him in recent years, he admits much of the bad press is the singer's own fault.

Geller says, "I do believe that Michael Jackson has made some devastating mistakes. "First of all, when I introduced him to Martin Bashir I stepped out of the picture. Michael should have called someone - his legal advisor or manager - before he signed any agreement with the TV network. "And then, you don't sit there with a child and say it's OK to take children to bed with you."
