Adrian Grant Talks About 'Thriller Live'. 30-05-'11

Next month will mark two years since Michael Jackson died, and many fans around the world are still trying to figure out how to deal with the grief. For many, it is still sinking in that the King of Pop will never tour again. However, the stage show 'Thriller Live' has found a home in the hearts of many and next month it will go to Abu Dhabi for two nights on June 9 and 10.

The show, which is still in the middle of its third West End run in London, captures something of Jackson's spirit. It is a tribute rather than a musical with five singers of different ages, races and sexes and 10 dancers staging versions of the hits, from ABC to Man in the Mirror. Short video presentations between the songs give highlights of the superstar entertainer's career (like his still-unbeaten number of awards and record sales), while the singers and dancers encourage the audience to get out of their seats and sing, dance and cheer along. The staging is basic, but there are some pyrotechnics and a glitter cannon and, of course, some moonwalking.

To some, this might all sound like an obvious attempt to cash in on the grief of a dead star's fans but, nothing could be further from the truth. The show's creator, Adrian Grant, began putting on Michael Jackson tributes many years ago and even spent time with Jackson at Neverland when, at 19, he started a fanzine dedicated to the singer, who read it and invited him to his ranch.

"Michael was really down-to-earth," Grant says now. "Laughing around, joking around; he was a big kid at heart. Inquisitive, very knowledgeable, a genius in his studio, and a very humble person."

In addition to interviewing Jackson that day, Grant also hung out in his studio, met his pet giraffe and chimpanzee, played arcade games, watched films and ate lunch with the singer. "It was an unbelievable day," Grant says. "At the end Michael says 'Come back any time,' so I used to go back there once or twice a year. It highlights his generosity. He didn't need to do that, but he was just a kind person."

Inspired by Jackson's support, Grant began putting together an annual tribute show and Jackson himself flew to the UK to attend the 10th edition. After the show he took to the stage to say a few words, calling the show "incredible" and "beautiful." It was this production that evolved into 'Thriller Live,' the theatrical touring show we know today.

"Michael watching [that show] gave me the inspiration that if you've got something you believe in you should follow it through, you can make things happen," Grant says. "Everything else that followed is thanks to him."

'Thriller Live' began in 2006, and Jackson told Grant that when he came over to London for his This Is It tour, he would come and watch the show - in disguise to avoid being mobbed.

Sadly, that of course, never happened. Jackson died on June 25, 2009 during rehearsals for the tour. "I didn't believe it," Grant says of the news. "It took a couple of days to sink in and then my first thoughts were for his family; his children and his mother."

Grant says he considered canceling the show for the immediate future but "there was such an outpouring from the public that the Lyric Theatre [where 'Thriller Live' was performed] turned into a bit of a shrine and there was a lot of demand for people to come and see the show and pay their respects to Michael. So we've continued in that vein and ever since it's become more of a celebration and tribute to his legacy."

The show went on the night after Jackson's death and Grant describes it as a "very charged performance," with lots of tears among the cast that day. Since then, the show's popularity has skyrocketed. There are now three versions of the show going on in different parts of the world simultaneously, and 1.2 million people have been to see it.

With all the other Michael Jackson tribute shows sprouting up everywhere, you might say that 'Thriller Live' is the original, and the only one personally endorsed by the King of Pop himself.

"Thriller Live is what it always was," Grant says. "I started it because Michael had been getting a lot of negative press and I wanted to focus on the music. It wasn't a case of trying to commercially exploit anything. Since Michael's passing there have been a number of other copycat tribute shows popping up here and there, and I think they're the ones that have really jumped on the bandwagon."

Ne-Yo On Working With Michael Jackson. 29-05-'11

Just months before Michael died, recording artist and songwriter Ne-Yo was working with him on several songs. With the two-year anniversary of Michael’s death coming on June 25, Ne-Yo spoke with the Journal about his work with Michael and discussed some of the challenges involved with writing songs for such a legendary music figure.

“I had to take off the thought of, ‘OK, I’m writing a song for Michael Jackson.’ I had to take that off and just write records. Because, if you go in the studio and [think], ‘I’m writing a song for Michael Jackson, all of sudden, everything you do sucks. Nothing is good enough. You think, ‘Michael would never sing this.’”

We are pleased to announce that the final dot in Michael’s Tribute Portrait will be drawn this year, in time for his birthday, August 29, 2011. This date is exactly two years to the day from when this tribute was first opened to the public for fans all around the world to become part of this historical museum-quality art, the day after the Portrait’s official launch at a private ribbon cutting ceremony at which the first dots were drawn for Michael and his children on August 28, 2009.

The Portrait will take at least one million dots to complete, but MJTP Artist David Ilan will be drawing dots ahead of some people signing up, in an effort to get the Portrait completed in time for Michael’s birthday. However, fans can continue to join for a long time to come. After the Portrait is complete, when someone joins they will be assigned a pre-drawn dot.

Jackson's Hang Out With The Smiths. 25-05-'11

It was a meeting of superstar children the other day when Prince, Paris and Blanket Jackson visited a film set in Los Angeles to hang out with Jaden and Willow Smith. Michael's three kids were spotted having a good time with the offspring of actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. The Jackson three were accompanied by their grandmother, Katherine Jackson.

Both of the Smith kids are already in showbusiness. Willow, 10, having released her hit song "Whip My Hair" while her brother Jaden, 12, recently became the highest-paid child actor, earning $3 million for The Karate Kid.

And although Michael's children have expressed a desire to follow their famous Dad's footsteps into the family business, their grandmother and legal guardian has said she wants them to get an education before any thought of going into show business. Prince, 14, Paris, 13 and Blanket, 9 have been attending an after-shcool drama class for several weeks and Prince is interested in producing and directing films while Paris is interested in acting. Blanket is said to be the dancer of the three.

Eddie Van Halen: “Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ Is A Stand Out For Me”. 23-05-'11

Smithsonian magazine recently conducted an interview with Eddie Van Halen about his decision to donate his guitar, the Frank 2, to the National Museum of American History.

When asked which of his past musical collaborations stands out his favorite, Eddie said, “Michael Jackson’s Beat It is a stand out for me. Quincy Jones called me up and asked me to play on it. When I got there, it took me 15 minutes to rearrange the song and I played two solos and told them they could pick the one they liked best. Then Michael walked in and said, ‘Wow! I really like that high fast stuff you do.’ It was a lot of fun to do. It’s crazy that something could take such a short amount of time and can grow into something beyond anything you could ever imagine.”

Cris Judd Talks About Dancing For MJ. 24-05-'11

Cris Judd, a Los Angeles–based choreographer, director, actor, and producer who worked with Michael Jackson on both the DANGEROUS and HISTORY world tours, recently gave an interview to Backstage.com where he spoke about what an intense experience it was dancing for one of the greatest dancers who ever lived.

"He was a perfectionist," Judd says of the King of Pop. "When we were on tour with him, there were four dancers, and in rehearsal he would make each of us perform the entire two-hour-plus show, one at a time, in front of him. It's just you alone on the stage and him sitting there, arms crossed, watching you. And then he would give you some very precise correction. Like exactly where your thumb and middle finger should be on your hat!"

Michael Still Takes Spot 1 And 4 Of Top 10 All Time Mobile TV Moments. 22-05-'11

MobiTV released an interesting list Friday that sheds light on what kinds of live events drive people to watch television on their phones.

The result is a list of the ten most-viewed live events in MobiTV’s history. Coverage of Michael Jackson’s death and memorial took spots 1 and 4, respectively. The United States vs. Algeria 2010 World Cup Soccer match was 2. Other notables: President Obama’s inauguration took a high spot, but the Sarah Palin vs. Joe Biden debate beat out Obama vs. McCain. In the marriage vs. divorce category, Tiger Woods’ confessional press conference beat out last month’s Royal Wedding.

A spokesperson for Mobi said the rankings didn’t come with actual viewer numbers because phone companies generally don’t release that information.

That Michael’s 2009 death remains number 1 shows just how large of a news story that was — and what time of day it broke. For many people in the U.S., the news arrived during work or commute-home hours.

Creditor's Claim: Michael Jackson Gave Me Herpes. 21-05-'11

Two bizarre creditors' claims were just filed in the Michael Jackson Estate case by a woman who claims Michael gave her an STD in the late '70s and it ruined her life.

Shellie Smith claims, "In 1979, I started having sexual relations with the decedent. Shortly thereafter, I began to get blisters on my legs, face and lips. He was my only partner."

Smith continues, "At this time, I am unable to have a full and vibrant life due to the complications of this disease."

But she also filed a second claim with different facts, stating she began having sex with Michael in 1977 and was diagnosed with herpes simplex. In this claim, Smith says, "[Michael] knew I was getting blisters on my body, however, he continued to have sex with me."

Smith is asking the Estate for $10 million.

Good luck ... For starters, the statute of limitations ran out decades ago, the deadline for filing a creditor's claim has long expired, and the claim sounds, well ...

Oh, and this isn't Smith's first crazy claim -- in January 2010, she filed one saying she and Michael were secretly married and she was entitled to spousal support. That claim was rejected.

Michael Jackson’s Father Wants To Open Neverland Style Hotels. 21-05-'11

Imagine my surprise to run into Joseph Jackson this week in Cannes. We knew he was going to be around, promoting various schemes. But he showed up at Sean Penn’s J/PHRO charity dinner for Haiti at the Carlton Hotel with quite a gang in tow: he’s doing business with Michael Jackson’s one time, problematic manager Dieter Wiesner. And he’s also found wealthy patrons who don’t speak English too well and probably are unaware of his unusual history.

With these new partners, to whom Joseph introduced me, Michael Jackson’s dad is going to start something called the Happy Land Resort: A Jackson Neverland Themed Resort World Wide. Lost on these folks is the news that Happy Land was a New York disco where dozens of people once died. But hey, they know what they’re doing. I met a lovely older woman named Phan Thi Phuong Thao, who wore a beautiful black robed gown that was embroidered heavily with silver and gold. She’s the Chairman of the Board, and obviously quite smitten with Joe Jackson. She doesn’t speak English.

My hat is off to Joe Jackson.

I did ask Joe if he’d seen his famous daughter, Janet. She was also in town, staying with Roberto Cavalli on his boat. It was Janet’s birthday on Monday, but Joe told me: “We don’t celebrate birthdays.” When I asked if he’d seen her, he replied: “No, but tell her I said hello if you do.” Will do!

Mary Hart On Her Time With MJ. 20-05-'11

Mary Hart has been hosting Entertainment Tonight for the past 30 years and now, as she prepares to step down from that position, she is looking back and talking about some of her most memorable interviews and the first name she mentions is always Michael Jackson!

When asked by TVSquad.com what was her favorite interview of all time, she replied,

It's so tough! I mean, it comes down to the same handful of interviews, but I have to say my time with Michael Jackson was so special, it was so unique, because nobody got that time. Yes, Oprah did that sit-down interview at Neverland Ranch with him, but you know what? Years before that, I had been in Pensacola, Florida with Michael, watching him rehearse for his Bad Tour. I was there with him on stage for two days, watching him be the masterful leader of every move, every note, every intonation of what he did, and it was remarkable.

And then when I was with him in Kansas City and walked him out on the stage, he held my hand through the tunnel, right out to the edge of the stage, then let go and transformed himself from this shy person that he was into this magnificent genius performer. It was the most remarkable thing I'd ever seen. It really was mind-blowing."

Michael Jackson’s Dad Launches His Own Fragrance Line, “Parfum De Neverland”. 18-05-'11

Do you think Michael Jackson smelled like a “sparkling explosion of mandarin, lemon and bergamot essential oils from Italy with a few drops of baise rose wrapped in a woody heart of Canadian pine, supported with rose and jasmine of Grasse”? Well, his dad did! At least that appears to be the message of Jackson Tribute, the male side of Joe Jackson’s new fragrance line—Parfum De Neverland—which he just launched at Cannes. Don’t worry, ladies, Joe has a “musky…slightly vanilla” scent for you as well—Jackson Legend. You see, no one can stop Joe from putting the word “Jackson” on anything, since he put the word “Jackson” on Michael.

Parfum De Neverland appears to be a synergistic effort of sorts with Julian Rouas, who—according to his bio—once taught tennis to Prince Albert and Princess Stephanie of Monaco, before designing the scent “Sharon” By Sharon Stone in 1996 (does Joe find these people, or do these people find Joe?). Maybe, if these scents sell well, we can get one that captures the smell of desperation, the kind that drives an 82-year-old man to pimp out his dead son’s legacy like this.

Jermaine Jackson Announces New Release Date For Book About Michael. 18-05-'11

Jermaine has confirmed that his memoir of his brother Michael will be released in September. The book, entitled Michael, You Are Not Alone, includes details about Michael’s life and music. It had been due out in October, but the release date has been brought forward to September 13 in the UK and US so it does not coincide with the trial of Conrad Murray.

On Twitter, Jermaine said he didn’t want the book to come out at the same time as Murray’s trial:

“This memoir will now stand as a testimony to the real Michael & his true character, reminding the world who he was, moving forward,” he said. It won’t cover the trial, but will “defend Michael’s memory first & foremost with the truth”, he added.

MJ Photo Featured In Exhibit. 16-05-'11

For more than 40 years, Greg Gorman has taken photos of the world's most interesting people. More than 125 of them are showcased In Greg Gorman: A Distinct Vision 1970-2010, on display at the Decorative Center Houston through June 3. Recently, the Los Angeles-based photographer picked out some of his favorite images in the exhibit and talked about how they came about.

Michael Jackson, 1987

"Michael was a perfectionist beyond your wildest imagination. Every time we would shoot, he would call me and we'd have a two-hour conversation to discuss what it was we were going to do and how we were going to go about it. He had pet tarantulas; they actually shed their skin. This is the casing of the tarantula that he brought with him.

"He never traveled with a big entourage. He was very genuine and really loved photography. I dearly miss him. He was a tragic individual but an amazing human being."

The exhibit is being held at the Decorative Center Houston and it runs from April 27 through June 3, 2011.

Forgotten Michael Jackson Photos Could Power The World, Inventor Says. 14-05-'11

Forgotten Michael Jackson PhotosA Los Angeles inventor who photographed Michael Jackson 33 years ago hopes those images will now help launch an electric motor he claims could solve the world's energy problems.

Reginald Garcia will use cash from the sale of 130 unpublished Jackson photos to fund testing of the motor, which he claims generates more electricity than it uses. Garcia is in the process of getting the photos appraised and prepared for sale.

The photos show a 19-year-old Jackson and his brothers during a video shoot at a Hollywood studio in March 1978, before he began changing his appearance with surgery.

The Afro hair style and 1970s clothing show "a rare glance" of Jackson in an "awkward teenage stage," an image that he personally tried to bury in later years, according to a collector who sold photographs to the singer.

"If it was an image he didn't like, he was more likely to buy them than if they were images he did like," said Keya Morgan. "Were he alive now, I would definitely go to him and I'm sure he would want to buy them."

With Jackson gone, Morgan's Keya Gallery is buying the image copyrights and helping Reginald Garcia sell the original slides, prints and contact sheets that have been forgotten on his shelf for decades.

Garcia pulled the box of photos out of his closet last month when he was looking for ways to finance testing of his "self-generating" motor, Garcia said in a CNN interview this week.

"He was the greatest guy you could ever talk to," Garcia said of his day with Jackson.

Garcia was a student at California Tech and a freelance photographer when a friend of his sister's, who worked for CBS Records, asked him to take pictures of the Jacksons at Gower Studios in Hollywood, he said.

The color photos show the Jackson 5 dressed in blue tuxedos, singing on a soundstage.

The black-and-white images were taken during breaks in the video shoot, Garcia said.

"I sat him in front of a mirror and shot some photos, and I said 'act like you're reading a letter like you just got from your girl,'" he said. The result was a photo showing Jackson and his reflection in a dressing room mirror. Garcia said he only recently realized it echoes the singer's later hit "Man in the Mirror."

Garcia and business partner David Marohnic brought his photos and the prototype of his invention to CNN's Los Angeles bureau to demonstrate the engine and talk about their plans.

"What we're essentially looking for is trying to take the photos that Reggie took of Michael Jackson, his legacy, use those funds to try to take our prototype to the market and ultimately clean up the environment and use less greenhouse gases as a result of a motor that's very highly efficient," Mahronic said.

The motor buzzed as two voltage meters measured the energy going in and the power flowing out, back to the battery.

"It's generating more energy recharging the battery than it actually draws from the battery," Marohnic said.

Garcia reconfigured the brushes and rewound the copper in a standard motor "so it captures the negative electromagnetic field as it collapses, sends energy to a capacitor and recharges the battery," he said.

The sale of the Jackson photographs will allow them "to certify that the prototype does everything that we say it's going to do," Marohnic said.

"It's written in the stars," Garcia said. "We have a destiny of a greener earth, a door opening today that should lead us to this clean earth."

Originally reopened as a limited engagement run last year, the Captain EO attraction at Tokyo Disneyland will now remain as a permanent attraction.

Dr. Who Gave MJ Propofol Forced To Testify For Murray. 12-05-'11

A doctor who repeatedly administered Propofol to Michael Jackson has been ordered against his will to testify on behalf of Dr. Conrad Murray ... TMZ has learned.

Dr. David Adams -- a Las Vegas anesthesiologist -- put Michael under with Propofol on 4 separate occasions in 2008.

Dr. Murray's lawyers want him to testify in the manslaughter case about MJ's "behavior and reactions while under the drug and also how he responded to the administration of the drug."

Dr. Adams vehemently objected to being subpoenaed, claiming he's a "low-key individual" and he's already lost business because of getting dragged into the case.

Nonetheless, TMZ has obtained a court order from a Las Vegas judge that forces Adams to testify.

Sony/ATV Said To Submit Takeover Offer For Warner Music Group Corp. 10-05-'11

Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, owned by Sony Corp. (SNE) and the Estate of Michael Jackson, submitted a bid for Warner Music Group Corp. (WMG) ahead of last week’s deadline, two people with knowledge of the auction said.

Sony/ATV made a joint bid with billionaire Ronald Perelman and Guggenheim Partners LLC, said the people, who weren’t authorized to speak publicly. On May 2nd Warner Music called a board meeting with the aim of picking a buyer in 48 hours, people said then.

The entry of Sony/ATV increases the number of known bidders to three after billionaire investor Ron Burkle decided to walk away last week. Len Blavatnik, a former Warner Music director, and brothers Tom and Alec Gores also submitted bids ahead of the deadline, people familiar with the offers said yesterday.

Sony/ATV’s bid is in the $3 billion range offered by Blavatnik and the Gores brothers, one person said. The company, headed by Martin Bandier, is interested Warner Music’s publishing business, while its partners are focused on recorded music, one of the people said.

Will Tanous, a spokesman for New York-based Warner Music, and Liz Young, a spokeswoman for Sony Music in New York, had no comment. Christine Taylor, a spokeswoman for Perelman’s MacAndrews & Forbes in New York, didn’t respond to requests for comment. Jeffrey Kelley, a spokesman for Guggenheim in Chicago, declined to comment.

Warner Music, which began seeking offers in January, fell 3 cents to $7.37 at 4:15 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The stock has climbed 31 percent this year.

Ownership Breakdown

The record company, home to artists including Cee Lo Green and the Black Keys, has long-term debt of $1.94 billion, according to company filings.

Eight of Warner Music’s 13 directors are executives of Thomas H. Lee Partners LP and Bain Capital LLC, two Boston-based private-equity firms that together hold 51 percent of the company’s shares, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Providence Equity Partners owns 8.3 percent and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Edgar Bronfman Jr. owns about 7 percent.

Potential Witness Dr. Patrick Treacy’s Claims On TV Show Banned by Lawyers In US. 10-05-'11

Defence lawyers for Conrad Murray had the footage pulled as they fight manslaughter charges against Murray.

Dr. Patrick Treacy is said to be Michael’s only doctor when he lived in Ireland in 2006 and 2007, and became friends with Michael. He also treated Michael shortly before his 2009 death. According to Treacy Michael would never have self-administered powerful sedative Propofol which was found to have caused Michael’s death.

Treacy, director of Dublin’s Ailesbury Clinic, is on the list of potential witnesses for the trial of Murray for involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors claim Murray gave Michael the lethal dose of Propofol and then attempted to cover it up. Murray’s lawyers say he’s not guilty and Michael gave the drug to himself.

But, Treacy rubbished this explanation in a now banned television show recorded two months ago for the Discover Channel. In it Treacy, who has been interviewed by US detectives about the case, says: “Any time Michael used Propofol with us it was always in the presence of an aneasthetist and he always requested that. There was one time I had to go to Michael’s house a few days before he was going to meet the Queen. After one of his procedures he had hyper-sensitivity in this area around his nose and would require sedation. I couldn’t get an aneasthetist that night.”

Dr. Treacy offered an alternative which he could have administered without an aneasthetist, but Michael would not consider it. Treacy said “There always had to be an aneasthetist,” adding that it “would seem unusual” for Michael to die from administering heavy doses of propofol to himself.

Michael Jackson Memorabilia Sells In Las Vegas. 09-05-'11

A crystal-studded shirt worn onstage by Michael Jackson: $52,500. A young Jackson’s painting of Mickey Mouse: $25,000. Owning a piece of a pop icon who died before his time: Priceless.

Or, at least, very expensive.

Twenty-one items once owned by Jackson sold at auction Friday for a total of $205,000, dwarfing the auction house’s early conservative estimate of $6,000 for the collection.

The estimate was made before Jackson died unexpectedly Thursday at a Los Angeles hospital. On Friday, the items took on new meaning, and likely new value, as collectors and a few fans gathered at the Planet Hollywood hotel-casino with the hope of walking away with a piece of the late King of Pop.

“I grew up with him,” said Larry Edwards, a 55-year-old Tina Turner impersonator from Las Vegas who came to the auction aiming to buy the primary-colored depiction of an African-American Mickey Mouse, signed by “Mike Jackson.”
“It’s so unique, and it means even more to me that it’s so soon after his passing,” he said.

Edwards said he was prepared to spend $1,000 but was elbowed out at the get-go by an opening bid of $1,500. The painting sold for $20,000, plus a 25 percent commission for the celebrity auction house, Julien’s Auctions.

The biggest ticket item went to Glenn Johnson, a real estate developer and amateur collector from Houston. After a fast-paced bidding war under the glare of television news cameras, Johnson edged out another bidder to take home a Swarovski crystal-beaded shirt worn by Jackson during his 1984 Victory tour.

Johnson said another king was on his mind as the price climbed.
“I see Elvis Presley costumes go for a quarter of a million these days,” Johnson said. “I’m hoping this will be an investment.”
The items for sale Friday came from a collection owned by David Gest, the producer and promoter once married to Liza Minnelli. Jackson introduced the couple and was best man at their wedding.

Among the lot were handwritten lyrics of Jackson’s hit song “Bad,” an album cover signed by each member of the Jackson 5, and a handwritten note from Jackson to an unidentified “Greg.”
“Thanks for a magic moment in my life, I hope it was the same for you, please come visit me at Neverland,” the undated note reads. “Lets hope this is the beginning of a lovy friendship and never lose your boyish spirit its imortal.”
The note sold for $18,750 to an unidentified bidder on the phone.

The annual two-day celebrity sale was scheduled for months and promoted mainly for its large number of Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe items.
Julien Auctions chief executive Darren Julien said he worried some would accuse him of profiting from Jackson’s death.

“I thought about pulling the lots, but we have people bidding from all over the world,” he said. “Everything we did was to honor Michael Jackson.”

Authorities Admit MJ No Molester. 07-05-'11

When Katherine Jackson re-opened the issue a few days ago by declaring the molestation allegations "the biggest lie ever told," she was right. Government officials have admitted there was never any evidence Michael Jackson was a child molester.

The Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) seems to be in full agreement with Mrs. Jackson. From the cases they investigated, Michael Jackson never molested any children.

Keeping with the rule that "there's no smoke without fire," Jackson was under investigation by the DCFS on and off for over a decade, beginning in 1993 after allegations made by an underage accuser.

Jackson was said to have fully cooperated with the investigations, which included hours and hours of interviews and the DCFS cleared him of any wrongdoing.

Katherine Jackson’s take on all this is that her son was targeted by opportunists out to make a quick buck.

Michael Jackson, Liz Taylor Took KFC Road Trip? 06-05-'11

Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando reportedly took a road trip together during the aftermath of 9/11, stopping at every KFC and Burger King that they came across.

According to Vanity Fair, the trio were in New York when they departed after the events of September 11, 2001.

"These three towering icons of American pop culture planned their escape, afraid that they would be the next target," the reporter wrote. "Unable to fly, they drove out of the city.

"Brando allegedly annoyed his travelling companions by insisting on stopping at nearly every KFC and Burger King they passed along the highway."

A former employee of Jackson also claimed: "They actually got as far as Ohio - all three of them, in a car they drove themselves!"

However, Taylor, Jackson and Brando have all since passed away and are unable to confirm or deny the alleged trip.

Brando died in July 2004 aged 80, while Jackson passed away in June 2009 weeks before he was due to start his comeback tour. In March, Taylor died of congestive heart failure.

A former assistant to Taylor denied the story was true and insisted: "Elizabeth stayed behind where she went to a church to pray. She [also] went to an armoury where [there were] people who couldn't get home or who'd stayed behind to look for the missing.

"Eventually, the airports opened and she flew home."
