Cirque Du Soleil’s ‘Michael Jackson ONE’ Premieres With Jackson Family Members. 30-06-'13

Less than 20 months after the debut of the first Cirque du Soleil show paying tribute Michael Jackson, comes the second: “Michael Jackson ONE”.

Cirque president Daniel Lamarre said he'd planned two Jackson-inspired shows "from the first day we got the rights from the (Jackson) estate," with the first production, "Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL WORLD TOUR," delivering a stadium-sized concert-type presentation and "ONE" a more intimate affair.

The new show is something closer to what Cirque du Soleil usually serves up. It's a multimedia extravaganza that often flies high, but never loses sight of its inspiration.

Saturday's world premiere (June 29) attracted celebrities including musician Justin Bieber, as well as actors Neil Patrick Harris, Allison Janney and Alfre Woodard.

Also in attendance were Michael Jackson's brothers Marlon, Tito and Jackie, the latter noting during arrivals that most of the Jackson family would be inside the theater for the premiere except for Michael's daughter, Paris. The teen was taken by ambulance from her family's home June 5 and hospitalized.

"She's going to be OK," Jackie Jackson said. "She's getting better."

The brothers said even less when asked about the progress of the lawsuit against concert promoter AEG Live. The family claims the company hired Conrad Murray, the doctor convicted of involuntary manslaughter for Michael Jackson's 2009 death.

"We can't elaborate on that, because it's still ongoing," replied Marlon Jackson.

Jackson Family Members

Following a dramatic week of courtroom testimony surrounding Michael Jackson's final days, the brothers seemed relieved to be revisiting Michael's life and work.

"ONE" `'is all about the music" said Marlon Jackson. "This is part of giving back and sharing his legacy."

"ONE" also gives Cirque another crack at producing the ultimate Michael Jackson tribute show.

Some heavyweight media outlets gave "IMMORTAL" lukewarm reviews (The Hollywood Reporter, and the Los Angeles Times among them). And even Cirque president Lamarre admitted the production was being "tweaked" throughout its North American run.

"ONE" director Jamie King commented, "I think the questions with ('IMMORTAL') was, `Was there enough Cirque? Was there enough Michael?' There's where the confusion (was)."

"ONE" is very different," explained Lamarre. "It's a total immersion. So, people are going to dive into the universe of Michael Jackson."

Despite mixed reviews and initial production problems, "IMMORTAL" was a box-office smash. According to Forbes, it was the highest-grossing tour in the United States in 2011 and the second-highest in 2012. By the time it traveled overseas, Lamarre said, "IMMORTAL" was greatly improved and, "I cannot wait to bring back `IMMORTAL' (to North America) for people to realize how good a show it is now."

Karen FayeStylist Warned Jackson Might Die. 29-06-'13

Michael Jackson's longtime stylist has testified that she tried to warn the singer's manager that his concert promoter would look responsible if the singer died because of numerous signs his health was declining.

Hair and makeup artist Karen Faye told jurors on Friday about two emails she sent to Jackson's manager Frank Dileo within the five days before the singer's death that his health was deteriorating.

In one of the messages, Faye warned Dileo that he and Randy Phillips from promoter AEG Live might become "villains" or "financial victims" if Jackson were to die while preparing or performing a series of comeback shows called This Is It.

Faye said she struck a dire tone in the messages because she felt that earlier concerns about Jackson's health had been ignored.

Faye sent the warning that Jackson may die in a message on June 20, 2009 - five days before the singer died of an overdose of the anaesthetic propofol.

Two days later, on June 22, she sent the warning about Dileo, Phillips and tour director Kenny Ortega being held financially responsible for the entertainer's demise.

"I don't think you, Kenny, or Randy deserve becoming the villains, or the financial victims," her email states.

She wrote that the message was "between you and me alone".

She told jurors she was concerned the men "could be responsible for that in some way. Just kind of like where we are right now," she said, referencing the Jackson family's ongoing civil case against AEG Live.

Faye's emails described Jackson as emaciated, paranoid and unable to perform.

She told jurors on Friday that while the singer's performances dramatically improved in his final two rehearsals, she was still not convinced he would be able to perform the 50-concert schedule of This Is It, let alone its premiere.

Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, claims AEG executives missed signs about the singer's health and failed to properly investigate the doctor convicted of administering a fatal dose of propofol.
AEG denies it hired Conrad Murray, the former physician convicted of giving Jackson the overdose. The company also denies it pushed Jackson to rehearse.

T.J. JacksonNephew: Michael Jackson Was Murdered. 28-06-'13

Michael Jackson's nephew testified Thursday that he believes his uncle was murdered.

T.J. Jackson, the youngest son of Jackson brother Tito, revealed his suspicion while being cross examined by an AEG Live lawyer in the Michael Jackson wrongful death trial.

Jurors also heard him testify about the emotional devastation caused by Michael Jackson's death.

"He was just everything," said T.J. Jackson, who shares guardianship of Michael Jackson's children -- Prince, Paris and Blanket -- with their grandmother.

Michael Jackson's mother and his children contend his last concert promoter was liable for his death because it hired, retained or supervised Dr. Conrad Murray, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

AEG Live lawyers argue it was Jackson, not the company, who chose and controlled Dr. Murray. Their executives had no way of knowing he was giving nightly infusions of the surgical anesthetic propofol to Jackson, which the coroner ruled killed the singer, the lawyers say.

"Do you believe your uncle was murdered?" AEG Live attorney Jessica Stebbins Bina asked T.J. Jackson.

"I do," he answered. "I believe it because he did tell me and the brothers that he was going to be murdered on a couple of occasions.

"He said that just because of his position he was a target."

If the jury concludes AEG Live has liability in Jackson's death, then they must put a dollar figure on damages -- including the emotional toll on the children caused by the loss of their father.

The oldest child, 16-year-old Prince, testified Wednesday that sister Paris, 15, "was probably hit the hardest because she was my dad's princess."

Paris has been hospitalized since a suicide attempt earlier this month, although it is unclear whether jurors will know about it.

"The loss of my uncle has hit her at a different level and she's in a tough spot, but we're loving her and doing everything we can," T.J. Jackson testified Thursday.

He said he was at a loss for words to describe what Paris is going through. "It's tough, you know, it's tough."

"She was daddy's girl," he said. "My uncle was her world. My uncle gave them more love and for it to be taken away, it's been very hard for Paris, and for all of them."

Blanket, who was 7 when his father died, "was always wrapped around his leg, very shy," T.J. Jackson said. "Wherever my uncle was, Blanket was a foot away, My uncle was everything to Blanket."

"Right now, I don't know if Blanket realizes what he lost," Prince said. "He was so young. He is still growing up just like I am and he doesn't have a father to guide him."

Prince said he has "a hard time sleeping" since his father's death in 2009. It left him "emotionally distant from a lot of people" for a while, he said.

He's missed sharing with his father "the first day of going to school, having the first girlfriend, being able to drive," Prince testified.

T.J. Jackson said Prince was Michael Jackson's "little assistant."

"He was very mature for his age, very smart. My uncle would prepare him for things" by telling him about his business deals.

"He's very strong, he's very smart," he testified. "He was always the smartest kid I'd ever known."

As a guardian, T.J. Jackson said he must constantly deal with paparazzi stalking the children for photographs.

"It's, just to be frank, a complete annoyance," he said. "It's awful."

He suggested there should be a new law to protect celebrity children from photographers.

"I know it's making everything harder for the kids to grieve and to recover and to progress," he said.

Prince JacksonPrince Relives MJ's Last Days. 27-06-'13

An exhausted Michael Jackson warned that tour promoters AEG Live were going to "kill" him as he rehearsed for a marathon concert tour shortly before his death, his son Prince testified Wednesday.

The 16-year-old also recounted the harrowing scenes on the day Jackson died in 2009, recalling how his younger sister Paris was "screaming" as doctor Conrad Murray was trying to revive her father.

"He just wished he had more time for rehearsals," he told the wrongful death trial, in which the Jackson family accuses AEG Live of negligently hiring Murray to care for the star for his doomed This Is It shows.

Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2011 for having given Jackson an overdose of the anesthetic propofol, to help him cope with chronic insomnia as he rehearsed for the series of 50 planned London shows.

Previous testimony at the manslaughter trial, and at the current civil case, has heard details of how the self-styled King of Pop's state of health deteriorated rapidly in the months before his death.

On Wednesday - a day after the fourth anniversary of Jackson's death - his son Prince said the singer was upset on the phone "a lot of time," most of the time with AEG Live chief Randy Phillips.

"He would cry sometimes. He said: 'They're gonna kill me, they're gonna kill me.'" Asked who he was talking about, he said: "People in AEG, Randy Phillips."

The teenager was dressed in a dark suit and tie, with long hair brushed behind his ears. He appeared reasonably relaxed, smiling as some videos and photos of the family were shown in court.

The 16-year-old, the highest-profile witness to testify since the civil trial started in late April, recalled 25 June 2009, the day his father died at his rented Holmby Hills mansion outside Los Angeles.

"I was downstairs in the sitting room. I heard screaming upstairs. I saw Dr Conrad, (personal chef) Kai (Chase) looked nervous and said 'Dr Murray wants you upstairs.'

"I ran upstairs and I saw Dr Murray doing CPR on my dad. Dr Murray was screaming while doing CPR. Then my sister came upstairs. She was screaming all the time saying she wants her dad," he added.

Appearing to fight back tears, he recalled how the children followed the ambulance which took Jackson to hospital, in a separate car.

"My dad always told us that angels were looking after him.

At the hospital, "Dr Murray said 'Sorry kids, dad is dead. We just cried," he told the jury.

Jackson's lawyers have called a series of AEG executives - including Phillips - and experts as witnesses over the last two months, and are expected to hand over to the AEG defense in the near future.

His son's powerful testimony was likely an attempt to make a personal appeal to the 12-person jury before main Jackson family lawyer Brian Panish closes their side of the case.

During the testimony Wednesday, Panish showed a lot of pictures of the children, including a video shot at Christmas in which they are asked what they want to do when they are grown up.

In one clip Blanket - now 11 years old - says "I don't know," and Paris talks about gymnastics and "helping the poor."

Prince told the court he wants to study film and business or mechanical science and business at the University of Southern California (USC).

Of his father, he said: "He wanted to know what we were learning, how we were doing at school and how we would use that to better the world. He always said you have to be creative and think with the right side of your brain."

Jackson's 15-year-old daughter Paris was also originally listed among witnesses due to be called. But it is now thought unlikely she will testify, after she was hospitalised earlier this month following a suicide attempt.

Her elder brother was asked about his sister at Wednesday's hearing.

"She was my dad's princess," he recalled.

Paris JacksonParis Wants To Visit Alleged Biological Dad Mark Lester. 26-06-'13

Paris Jackson has expressed a desire to meet British actor Mark Lester, after it was revealed that the British actor might be the biological father of Michael Jackson’s two eldest children -- Prince and Paris, the Mirror reported.

The British tabloid on Tuesday said Jackson admitted before his death that only his youngest son, Blanket, was fathered by him. Jackson's eldest children, Prince and Paris, were fathered using sperm donated by Lester, according to the Mirror.

Now, Paris is said to have expressed a desire to meet her biological father once she is discharged from hospital.

“Paris is deeply interested in learning about her father’s friendship with Mark and what happened,” a friend of the family told Mirror. “In no way would she ever see him as a replacement for Michael but she’s curious. Mark has met the kids before but Paris never knew the significance of it until now.”

But Prince has no interest in meeting Lester, who is also their godfather, and believes that anyone questioning Jackson’s paternity is not a true friend, the source added.

On the occasion of Jackson’s fourth death anniversary on Tuesday, Lester told British television presenter Lorraine Kelly that Jackson’s kids can visit him anytime they want.

“If they ever need to come over to the UK they can come and visit, be lovely to see them, the door is always open for them to come,” he told Kelly, the Mirror noted.

The actor admitted that he has not seen Jackson’s kids ever since the King of Pop’s death in 2009, but got in touch with a member of the Jackson family after Paris’ suicide bid came to light.

“My family, my girls, my son, we were all very close with Michael and his children and it’s a shame that the four years that we haven’t really seen them. It’s important for them to have friends,” he said.

Prince JacksonPrince Jackson To Testify About Dad Michael’s Final Days. 25-06-'13

Today marks four years from the day Michael Jackson died at the age of 50 … and time for his son to speak on his behalf.

Prince Jackson, the King of Pop's 16-year-old, will be taking the stand this week to testify in Jackson family matriarch Katherine Jackson's $40 billion wrongful death lawsuit trial against AEG Live.

In court Monday, Jackson lawyers said that Prince will take the witness stand after a medical expert concludes his testimony, reports CNN. That is expected to happen on Wednesday.

Prince will be the only one of Michael's children to testify in the trial, which is trying to determine if the concert promoter was negligent in the hiring of Dr. Conrad Murray to watch over the star during preparations for his 2009 "This Is It" tour. Paris, who was deposed in the case and was expected to take the stand, won't be doing so because she's undergoing psychiatric treatment following her suicide attempt earlier this month.

So what is Michael's eldest child expected to say under oath? He will talk about the iconic star's final days.

Prince was home with his father when he died from "acute propofol intoxication." (Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for recklessly using the powerful anesthesia without proper monitoring equipment to help the singer sleep, leading to his death.) At the age of just 12, the child followed the ambulance carrying his dad to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

During his taped deposition in March, Prince refuted testimony from the family chef, Kai Chase, that his father came home from tour rehearsal and was so exhausted that Prince had to help him up the stairs. The teen maintained that never happened and that he'd be unable to help his dad, although the star weighed a frail 136 pounds when he died.

Since Michael's passing, Prince, who has a girlfriend, has dabbled in the entertainment business himself. He appeared in an episode of The CW's "90210" and was a special correspondent for "Entertainment Tonight."
The trial, which is taking place in Los Angeles, is currently in its ninth week. Lawyers for both sides stated it would last into August.

Jackson Family's Former Manager Sues Sony Music. 25-06-'13

While the Jackson family’s trial against AEG continues, a former lawyer and manager for the Jacksons on Monday filed a new lawsuit demanding at least $10 million from Sony Music Entertainment for royalties from music created prior to 1983.

Richard Arons, who says he is 75 years old and dependent on these payments, is suing in L.A. Superior Court for breach of contract, improper accounting and more. He is asking the court to grant him lost royal.

CBS Records was sold in 1987 to Sony Corp. Arons suit claims that Sony did not pay him what he was owed. They eventually paid him some of it, but not all. He says he was owed 7.5 percent of income from albums including Thriller, Off The Wall, Victory and The Jacksons Live.

In March 2012, according to the suit, Andrew Ross of Sony Music agreed to review Arons claims, but even after that, the royalty statements were incorrect. Arons complained and Ross said he would get back to him. The suit says he never did.

Now, Arons says he not only hasn’t been paid all he is owed, but Sony also refuses to give him a proper accounting of how much the recordings have earned and of his royalties. He wants his money and a full accounting.

There was no response to attempts to reach Sony Music Entertainment in New York for comment after business hours.

Dr. Gordon MathesonComeback Tour Parallels Athlete’s Return To Sport. 25-06-'13

A key witness for the plaintiffs took the stand Monday in the Michael Jackson wrongful death trial.

Dr. Gordon Matheson, a sports medicine expert from Stanford University, testified about Michael’s condition and about the behaviour of his personal physician, Conrad Murray.

According to the expert, Michael’s role in his comeback tour has parallels to a player on the football field.

He said both are subject to injuries or illnesses that demand medical care, and both depend on doctors to determine when it is okay to return to play. According to Matheson, ideally, a doctor serves only one interest: the wellness of his patient.

In sports, there can be a third interest: a championship on the line, potential endorsements or financial gain. Such interests can compromise a doctor’s decision about the athlete’s return to play.

Matheson testified that in his opinion, Murray was also swayed by a third party interest: the proposed contract with AEG. It was never signed, but Matheson says that it spelled out that Murray would not be paid if the tour was canceled.

Matheson testified to what he thought may have motivated Murray to administer the sedative linked to Michael’s June 2009 death. Murray was $1 million in debt, said Matheson. Murray, he said, needed the $150,000 a month salary that the doctor negotiated.

Matheson testified that emails also reflect pressure on the doctor. Among them was one from an AEG exec, which stated that the doctor needed to know that it was AEG, not Michael, paying his salary.

The defense rejects any notion that AEG and its executives were negligent. AEG attorneys assert that Murray had served Michael and his family since 2006 and that Michael had requested that Murray work as his personal physician on the tour. AEG says it agreed to pay Murray as part of a packaged deal. It said AEG would bankroll the $40 million production, including Murray’s salary, but with tour profits, Michael would pay back AEG.

The defense played deposition testimony of an addiction specialist. Dr. Paul Earley testified that in his opinion, Michael was addicted to opioids obtained through multiple doctors over his career and that even his family had tried to intervene but were unable to help him.

Michael Jackson 'Revealed That Mark Lester Is Paris And Prince's Father Just Before He Died'.

Mark LesterThe late King of Pop is said to have revealed he was only the natural father to his youngest son Blanket.

He was one of the most secretive men in showbiz but Michael Jackson made a startling confession just a few months before he died.

The King of Pop revealed that British actor Mark Lester is the father of his daughter Paris and eldest son Prince.

Jackson said he had only fathered his youngest son Blanket.

His close friend Jason Pfeiffer claims Jackson went on to tell him he wanted troubled Paris’s mum, Debbie Rowe, to have no part in her life, insisting he was “mom and dad” to his children.

Jason, 39, speaking on the fourth anniversary of the Thriller star’s death, explained: “Michael and I often talked about our families and our lives.

“One day as we talked about his children and Debbie Rowe, he just came out and said that his children were actually fathered by Mark.

“Michael calmly said, ‘My friend Mark donated the sperm’. I was taken aback, but I didn’t think to ask anymore questions about the procedure.

“Michael felt Mark was one of his closest friends. He said he was a great actor and very good man. He mentioned that he had taken several people’s sperm and decided on Mark.

The King Of Style Book CoverMichael Jackson Fashion Style Book Wins Award. 24-06-'13

A book about singer Michael Jackson's fashion style, written by his personal assistant and designer of 25 years, won a gold medal from the Independent Publisher Book Awards, the group said on Monday.

"The King of Style: Dressing Michael Jackson," by Michael Bush won the top honor in the Pop Culture/Lifestyle category.

Bush said he was "beyond thrilled" about the award, adding that it not only honors the singer's memory "but his unique and amazing way of influencing fashion to this day."

From military outfits and regalia to jewel-encrusted gloves, fedora hats and intricately beaded outfits, Bush's book offers a behind-the-scenes look at the superstar and the development of his signature style until the pop star's death in 2009.

"The clothes had to work around the way he was performing," Bush told Reuters in an interview when the book was published last year. "He wanted his outfits, or his costumes, to be as entertaining on a hanger as they were on him. It was an added layer of refinement and detail that he was projecting to his audience."

Organizers of the awards, which were launched in 1996 to recognize independent authors and publishers, said there were 3,650 entries in the national categories.

Jim Barnes, the awards director, said the number of independent publishers is growing along with the quality of their work.

"One element driving the high rate of excellence is participation from university presses," he said in a statement. "This year, 29 medalists came from university presses and nine came from museums."

Madame Tussaud's Waxworks Museum has released in slow-motion, never-seen-before archive footage of Michael, dancing for its sculptors. The footage shows him posing, with his famous fedora, and performing his iconic moonwalk, which made him globally famous.

It’s a poignant reminder of Michael at the height of his powers, while a courtroom in Los Angeles continues to deliberate about who, or what exactly, caused his death four years ago, at the age of 50.

It comes on the eve of the anniversary of the King of Pop’s death, and on the day Tussaud's are unveiling three new figures of him.

The new wax figures depict the singer in three different eras of his career – the Jackson 5 days, the Dangerous era and the ‘This is It’ Michael.

They will be transported to Madame Tussaud's later, where fans will be able to see them from June 25, until September.
