Dr. Conrad MurrayMichael Jackson 'Still Loves Me,' Says Freed Doctor. 31-10-'13

Michael Jackson's former doctor Conrad Murray said Wednesday that the late pop icon still loves him, and would be appalled by fans who attack him over the star's 2009 death.

In his first public comments since being released from jail on Monday, Murray said he never harmed the "Thriller" icon, who died from an overdose of the anesthetic propofol administered by the medic.

"I loved Michael very much. I'm a fan of Michael probably more than most," he told the celebrity news website TMZ.

The 60-year-old, who was interviewed through the window of his car, had noticeably darker and thicker black hair than in the first photos of him shortly after he left jail, in which he looked significantly grayer than during his 2009 trial.

Murray, who was looking after Jackson as he rehearsed in Los Angeles for a series of comeback concerts in London, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and jailed for four years. He served two, let out early for good behavior and due to prison overcrowding.

Asked Wednesday about criticism he has faced, he said Jackson "would be appalled, absolutely appalled .. to see what has happened. All of his fans who judge me .. I think Michael will basically tell them to take a look in the mirror."

And he added: "Not that he doesn't care about them. But I don't think he would say that you should judge lest ye be judged. Because Michael knows the truth. The truth is, I never harmed him.

"Michael loves me no less than he loved me then, and I know he loves me today like I love him. He was a man of love, like I am a man of love. And I'll continue to give love.

"For all of those who try to fester hate in their hearts, I'm not going to go there. I don't need to do that. I will give love. I will give respect and I will remain dignified."

Al SharptonRev Al Sharpton Shares Sad Views On Michael. 30-10-'13

As Michael Jackson grew older, his inner world continually shrunk, and on last night’s Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen had a rare opportunity to question someone who truly knew the King of Pop intimately: Rev. Al Sharpton.

Cohen asked Sharpton to share something about MJ that would surprise people, and the Reverend didn’t hesitate.

“He was very, very sensitive,” he says. “He was very hurt when a lot of his friends deserted him.”

Sharpton said this situation came into painful clarity at Michael’s 2009 funeral.

“He felt in his last couple of years, that a lot of people he helped — I’m talking about major stars — wouldn’t return his calls. And they all were all sitting in the front rows of his funeral giving interviews, and they had actually not talked to Michael, they had abandoned him. And it took all I could not to call them out at the funeral during the eulogy, because he was very hurt by a lot of people.”

Sharpton said he’s still “in touch with the family,” adding, “I talk from time to time to Randy.”

The Apollo’s Michael Jackson Wall Memorial Photo Among Exhibits On Display At The Claire Oliver Gallery, NY. 29-10-'13

Two artists are opening up a dialogue about everyday life in Harlem by capturing its transformation on camera, reflecting on its past and contemplating its future.

The Claire Oliver Gallery in Chelsea is currently featuring excerpts from the larger “125th: Time in Harlem” project, which includes a series of public programs, exhibitions, and a book comprising 68 photographs of the neighborhood. The project, which was shot from 2008 to 2012, comes in response to the changing landscape of Harlem—specifically 125th Street, which has undergone intense gentrification in recent years. With the expansion of Columbia into Manhattanville and the rise of new developments in the area, photographers Isaac Diggs and Edward Hillel have created thought-provoking work, portraying what was there, and anticipating changes to the area in the coming years.

Shot in film and processed digitally, the photos capture the street with incredible precision. The range and intensity of color in the photographs draw the eye to the layers of depth in each scene.

In capturing the gentrification of Harlem and the loss and preservation of culture, perspective plays a key role. Often using a bird’s-eye view, the artists play with the paradoxes within the community. In a photograph titled “Michael Jackson Memorial Wall,” residents line up outside the Apollo Theater to sign the wall. In the background is a large lot with a real estate advertisement.

The Apollo's Michael Jackson Wall Memorial Photo

The juxtaposition of a community trying to hold onto the past and the developers looking forward into the future presents an interesting paradox. The large lot dominates the photograph, taking center stage, whereas the Apollo is portrayed as small and dingy in comparison to the vibrant green of the field. These contrasts constitute a theme that runs throughout the exhibit.
Part of the purpose of these photographs is to take a closer look into these ordinary spaces and capture the everyday feeling they portray. This is highlighted in “Victoria Theater,” which captures the theater with people walking by in blurred motion the historical theater the foreground. Photographing the theater in focus gives one the sense that it is a forgotten city landmark—people are moving on.

Students will recognize many of the street scenes and historical landmarks captured in these photographs, such as the Apollo, which appears in a number of the pieces. The artists claim that there is no political agenda, but, since they were blatantly pointing out the paradoxes within the community, it’s hard not to walk away thinking they had an objective in mind.

Though the photographs are beautiful with their many physical and metaphorical layers, it’s a trek from Columbia just to see 10 large-scale photographs displayed in this small, square space. However, if you’re in the area, the exhibit is definitely worth a visit.

“125th: Time in Harlem” is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Claire Oliver Gallery, 513 West 26th Street, at 10th Avenue. It runs through Nov. 23.

Michael Jackson's Former Doctor Conrad Murray Released From Jail. 28-10-'13

Conrad Murray was released from the Los Angeles Men's Central Jail early this morning, two years after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of pop star Michael Jackson.

Murray, 60, left from the back door of the jail in a police cruiser shortly after midnight local time. Murray's lawyer says he is not being released due to good behavior, but rather credit for time served. Murray was given an additional day of credit for every day he served.

In 2011, Murray was sentenced to four years in jail for involuntary manslaughter after he treated Michael Jackson with the powerful surgical anesthetic drug propofol.

Michael Jackson Sing-Along And Dance Party At The Alamo Drafthouse In Richardson, Texas. 27-10-'13

Sing-Along And Dance PartyThis was our very first music video Sing-Along ever, and it’s still one of the best. Because, as we know, Michael didn’t make music videos, he made short films. Say, say, say what you want, but we’ll be getting our Thriller on, asking Annie if she’s okay, and rocking with you all night.

If you’ve never been to one of The Action Pack’s Sing-Alongs before, this is the show to get started with. We’ll have a moonwalking contest before the show, select members of every audience will get flashlights to shine around the room every time Michael lights up a piece of sidewalk during “Billie Jean,” and when they dance under the water from the fire hydrant during T”he Way You Make Me Feel,” we’ll make you feel the spray.

But be warned, Sing-Alongs aren’t just sitting in the theater and cozily watching your favorite artists’ videos. In the past, the audience has been known to stand up and leave their seat behind entirely, and always seem to wannabe starting something. And we never stop ‘em.

Never-Before Heard Audio Clip From ‘In The Studio With Michael Jackson’ Seminar Emerges! 26-10-'13

Brad Sundberg“Like a Rolling Stone. Like the FBI. Like the CIA,” sings Michael Jackson on a just-released, never-before heard audio clip taken by the King of Pop’s ex-studio technical director and engineer, Brad Sundberg.

Sundberg generously shared the clip with a Swedish radio program earlier this week. It is just one of the countless unreleased Michael Jackson moments that feature as part of Sundberg’s ‘In The Studio With MJ’ seminar, which is set to make its next stop in Toronto, Canada next month.

“Sounds familiar,” comments Bill Bottrell of Jackson’s rendition. “John Lennon,” responds Jackson. “Like the BBC. BB King… And Doris Day,” he continues. “They called it ‘Can Ya Dig it’. It’s like a little short piece. Like a transitional thing. He’s just screamin’ out stuff.”

(Check out “Dig It” by The Beatles by clicking here)

The newly-released clip, which is featured in full below, we hear Jackson candidly discussing the technology and hardware in recording studios with Sundberg and Bottrell, and how things had (and hadn’t) changed since he started his recording career more than 25 years earlier.

“Do you think they’ll always have those big tapes like that?” Jackson asks. “Do you think they’ll ever do away [with them]? I feel like they’ve been that big and that heavy ever since I’ve been workin’ in studios. [But] everything else’s changed! And all these cord things; I’m shocked that hasn’t changed.”

On its own the clip is just a bit of chatter between Jackson and his studio buddies. However, in the grander scheme of things, the clip is very significant.

During the clip Jackson suggests that he and Bottrell have a jam session, with Bottrell on electric guitar and Jackson on vocals.

“I’m tellin’ you it would be neat for you to sometime just hook up your electric guitar or whatever and and just start playin’, and get me a mic… Out of the moment, you know, which would be really, really fun. A lot of magic is created out of the moment like that. It really is.”

The King of Pop wanted to make “magic” – and within hours, he’d done it.

What started out as a draft for a possible dance track, with a drum beat programmed to play while Jackson sang and Bottrell played guitar, quickly turned into one of Jackson’s most popular rock tracks – “Give In To Me”.

“Give In To Me”, which features Slash on guitar, was released as part of Michael Jackson’s ‘Dangerous’ album in November 1991. It reached the Top 10 in at least nine countries around the world – including New Zealand where it spend 4 weeks at #1, and the UK and Ireland where it peaked at #2. The track, on which Bottrell is rightfully credited as co-writer, was never officially released as a single in North America or Asia.

During his ‘In The Studio With MJ’ seminars Brad Sundberg shares an edited-down 15-minute version of the the two-hour collaborative jam session between Jackson and Bottrell, allowing fans the privilege of listening to the King of Pop’s creative process and experiencing his genius in full swing.

Click here to book tickets to the highly-anticipated Toronto seminar, which takes place between 12 noon and 7pm at D. C. Music Studios on November 23rd, 2013.

Thriller Live Celebrates 2,000th Performance In West End. 26-10-'13

Thriller Live, the spectacular concert show that celebrates the music of the world’s greatest entertainer and undisputed King of Pop, Michael and the Jackson 5, last night celebrated 2,000 record-breaking performances in the West End in a night packed with surprises. Scroll down for photos from the festivities!

X Factor finalists – and favourites – Rough Copy joined in the fun and presented the cast with an enormous celebration cake. Six of the young MJ's were on stage together for the first time for a special version of Heal The World and young MJ Eshan Gopal received a standing ovation and stopped the show when he joined David Jordan in dancing the iconic 'Billie Jean'. There was an after show party at the theatre and an after after show party at Planet Hollywood.

Thriller Live recently smashed all previous records at the Lyric Theatre, when it celebrated becoming the longest-running production in the theatre’s 125-year history, a record previously held by 5 Guys Named Moe.

Thriller – Live first moonwalked into the West End in January 2009 after three acclaimed UK tours. It has just extended its West End booking period to Sunday 28 September, 2014. Several world tours have seen the show play to acclaim in 26 countries, including Germany, Italy, Poland, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Singapore, South Africa, China, Sweden, Finland and Norway, Japan and Brazil. More than 1 million people have seen the show at the Lyric Theatre and more than 2.5million people have seen the show worldwide.

Thriller Live

Unlike other West End productions, Thriller – Live is not a rigid book musical with set songs, but is a constantly evolving music concert celebration. When Michael Jackson died, the Lyric theatre became a focus for fans from all over the world, who created a massive shrine of flowers, candles, and tributes. More than 40 books of condolence were signed in the foyer then sent to the Jackson family. A year after his death, a permanent West End memorial to Michael was unveiled in the theatre foyer. Thriller – Live brings to life on stage the distinctive high-energy dancing and pulsating sound of many of pop’s greatest hits, blending eye-popping video footage and effects together with dazzling choreography by the show’s award-winning director Gary Lloyd. The show has regularly been updated with additional songs, new visuals and choreography.

Thriller – Live was originally conceived and created by Adrian Grant, a long time associate of Michael Jackson, and author of Michael Jackson – The Visual Documentary. Thriller – Live is produced by Paul Walden and Derek Nicol for Flying Music in association with Adrian Grant for Key Concerts.

To All MJ Fans Worldwide: Join The Boycott Conrad Murray Campaign. 26-10-'13

We are a group of very concerned Michael Jackson fans. We are uniting out of our respect for Michael Jackson and his legacy. He was a global superstar and while he should be remembered for his artistry, he should also be remembered for his humanitarianism. Of equal importance was his love for his own children and his loyal fans. These are the things an individual like Michael Jackson should be remembered for… not the tragic manner in which he was taken from us.

The man responsible for taking Michael away from his children, family, and fans, Conrad Murray is scheduled to be released from jail in a matter of days. Murray is now a convicted felon, who was put in handcuffs and taken to jail moments after his manslaughter conviction. Michael Jackson’s fans from all over the globe are steadfast in our belief that Conrad Murray should not be allowed to profit from his criminal negligence, which resulted in the death of another human being. A human being beloved by millions all over the world.

Boycott Conrad Murray Campaign

We are reaching out to all media outlets, broadcasters, public relations organizations, and publishers, in an attempt to encourage them not to give Murray a platform to profit or exploit the life and/or death of Michael Jackson. Murray has shown absolutely no remorse for his crime and accepts no responsibility for his egregious actions and negligence. Instead, he continues to re-victimize Michael Jackson and his children. Murray continues through his agents and through jail house interviews to shift the blame post-conviction to his victim. In a reckless and thoughtless act, Murray released a taped message to Michael’s daughter, Paris. In this act he has demonstrated his selfishness and heartlessness towards the very child he left orphaned by his criminality.

We are determined to hold any organizations accountable for any/and all partnerships with Murray. If necessary, we will reach out to advertisers, sponsors and community organizations, to prevent Murray from profiting. Murray should not be given any platforms to spread ‘his truth’ especially since he refused to tell ‘his truth’ under oath. Our fight for justice for a just man such as Michael knows no limits. We believe that all media outlets should respect the fact that Michael Jackson is no longer here to defend himself against any allegations, and let this man, who millions love and continue to mourn, finally rest in peace.

Jackson’s Doctor Conrad Murray Files Petition To Get Medical License Back After Release From Jail.

Dr. Conrad MurrayMurray, who had a clinic in Houston before his 2011 conviction, is set to walk out of a Los Angeles jail on Monday.

He still has one more weekend to go behind bars, but Michael Jackson’s one-time personal doctor is stepping up the battle to get his medical licenses back stat.

Dr. Conrad Murray filed a civil petition in Travis County, Texas, Friday morning asking a civil court judge to stop the state medical board’s revocation of his medical license pending his criminal appeal in California.

Murray, who's set to walk out of a Los Angeles jail on Monday, had a clinic serving low-income patients in Houston before his 2011 conviction for causing the King of Pop’s fatal overdose.

Texas was the first state to revoke Murray’s medical license in August and cited his felony conviction as the cause.

Murray’s Texas lawyer Charles Peckham said he tried to fight the decision internally – arguing that California convictions aren’t final until all appeals are over – but the board denied his motion for a rehearing on Tuesday.

He's now asking a state court judge for a temporary restraining order to halt the decision. He claims it could cause "irreparable harm” to Murray, especially if the Medical Board of California uses it as a precedent to revoke Murray’s license in the Golden State.

“There is a clear potential for a domino effect,” Peckham told the Daily News Friday.

He said Murray already has agreed to the indefinite suspension of his licenses and has no plans to treat patients pending his criminal appeal – so the early revocation was unnecessary.

But he was clear Murray wants his white coat back as soon as possible.

“Dr. Murray has an unquenchable desire to help people, and no matter where it is, he will return to his given profession of healing,” Peckham said.

Quincy JonesQuincy Jones Sues Michael Jackson's Estate. 26-10-'13

Quincy Jones sued Michael Jackson's estate on Friday claiming he is owed millions in royalties and production fees on some of the superstar's greatest hits.

Jones' lawsuit seeks at least $10 million from the singer's estate and Sony Music Entertainment, claiming the entities improperly re-edited songs to deprive him of royalties and production fees. The music has been used in the film 'This Is It' and a pair of Cirque du Soleil shows based on the King of Pop's songs, the lawsuit states.

Jones also claims that he should have received a producer's credit on the music in 'This Is It'" His lawsuit seeks an accounting of the estate's profits from the works so that Jones can determine how much he is owed.

The producer worked with Jackson on three of his most popular solo albums, 'Off the Wall', ''Thriller' and 'Bad'.

Jackson's estate wrote in a statement that it was saddened by Jones' lawsuit. "To the best of its knowledge, Mr. Jones has been appropriately compensated over approximately 35 years for his work with Michael," the statement said.

An after-hours message left at Sony Music's New York offices was not immediately returned.

Jackson's hits 'Billie Jean', ''Thriller' and 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' are among the songs Jones claims were re-edited to deprive him of royalties and his producer's fee.

Jones' lawsuit states the producer's contracts called for him to have the first opportunity to re-edit or alter the songs, in part to protect his reputation.

Michael’s Las Vegas Compound For Sale. 26-10-'13

A Las Vegas compound once home to Michael Jackson will go on the market for $19.5 million. He rented the gated estate from 2007 until 2009 before he passed away.

According to listing agent Eddy Martinez of Miami-based Worldwide Properties, the 1.8-acre estate includes an 8,500-square-foot, three-story main house with three bedrooms and seven bathrooms as well as an elevator, spa treatment rooms, two kitchens and a large conference room. There’s also a large guesthouse and a chapel done in a Gothic style. Grounds include a tennis court, basketball court and fountain.

Mr. Jackson and his children primarily lived in the property’s 5,000-square-foot guest cottage, which has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen, family room and dining room. Mr. Jackson housed his staff in the main home on the property, according to Mr. Martinez, and converted its master suite into a recording studio. The two buildings are connected by an underground tunnel with a bar and art gallery; Mr. Jackson could use the tunnel to avoid helicopters and paparazzi.

The home is owned by Aner Iglesias, a real-estate investor. It initially came on the market in 2009 for $12.8 million. The property has been used meanwhile for private events, weddings and diplomatic ceremonies. Mr. Martinez said the price increase reflects a dramatically improved market from when the home listed previously.

Las Vegas Compound

Mr. Martinez said his company, along with Chinese international real-estate portal Juwai.com, will market the property primarily to wealthy Chinese buyers and will debut the listing this weekend at Top Marques luxury show in Shanghai.

“Many Chinese are/were Michael Jackson fanatics,” said Mr. Martinez in an email. “For a really wealthy fan of Michael Jackson, it would be a dream come true to own the home where Michael lived and recorded/created his music.”

Sony Music Sues United Airlines Over In-Flight Music From Michael Jackson Being Loaded Onto Planes. 24-10-'13

United AirlinesThe record label says that copyrighted sound recordings from Michael Jackson, Britney Spears and others are being loaded onto planes.

On Tuesday, Sony Music and various subsidiary labels brought a lawsuit against United Airlines, Inflight Productions and Rightscom over copyrighted music being made available through in-flight systems.

According to a complaint filed in New York federal court, the defendants are duplicating sound recordings and music videos, installing the allegedly infringed copies to servers located on board aircraft and then transmitting performances to passengers. All without paying any baggage fees.

Among the sound recordings at issue are works by Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood, Justin Timberlake and Michael Jackson.

Before the lawsuit was filed, the record labels say they were contacted by a representative from Rightscom, a consultancy specializing in rights management issues, who explained he had been retained by the other defendants. This consultant is said to have “candidly acknowledged” that musical works were being reproduced and that “it is going to be necessary for Inflight to contact the labels individually to put the necessary licenses in place.”

Discussions commenced, but the lawsuit states that during this time, United Airlines continued to offer its customers access to copyrighted music. The tip-off appears to have triggered a deeper investigation into in-flight music and now a lawsuit.

The complaint filed by Andrew Bart at Jenner & Block also seems designed to avoid any possibility that the airline company could claim the possibility of making any statutory license.

For one thing, the in-flight music system that the airlines are running is deemed to be “interactive, on-demand,” which would not be covered by a royalty collection outfit like SoundExchange.

Besides a copyright infringement claim, the record labels are also pursuing two additional claims for common-law infringement of pre-1972 works and unfair competition. Sony objects to the in-flight delivery of older music from artists like Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix and Santana. Claims over pre-’72 music have been a hot topic of late in courts. Sony wants to literally stop the music with an injunction, plus is seeking airline profits and statutory damages.

A spokesperson for United has declined to comment.
