3T Pay Tribute To Michael Jackson On The Big Reunion. 28-02-'14

3T have paid tribute to their father Tito Jackson and late uncle Michael Jackson for helping them to keep going after their mother’s death.

In an emotional episode of The Big Reunion, the group, Taj, Taryll and TJ Jackson, admitted the pair were instrument in helping them following their mother Dee Dee Jackson’s murder in August 1994.

TJ said: ‘I remember going into a room at the hospital and a doctor came in and gave us the news that our mother was no longer with us. It changed my life.

‘It was our uncle and our father who inspired us to continue forward.

Taryll added: ‘He [Michael] kept us driven and said the best way to cope was to make her proud.’

The group also explained how they could’ve become a band even earlier than they did but Michael wanted the trio to enjoy their childhood.

Taj said: ‘We had major labels after us. Our uncle didn’t want us to come out at that time, he wanted us to enjoy our childhood.

‘Our uncle was there to help us at that time but it was a big transition.

‘We understood we only had one chance at a debut album and to make a great statement of us three.’

3T

The group experienced problems with Michael clashed with Sony Music Entertainment’s company chairman Tommy Mottola, which resulted in issues for the boy band as they were signed to the same label as their uncle.

In the end 3T had to changed labels and were left devastated when they had to start all over again on their album.

Taryll said: ‘We couldn’t take our album with us. To work so hard and then be able to do anything and feel trapped is horrible. We didn’t do anything wrong … we are who we are.’

3T also went on to discuss their devastation following the death of their uncle, Michael, and admitted they felt a ‘responsibility’ to look after his children just as he had looked after them when they were younger.

As a result, TJ is now co-guardian of Michael’s children – Prince Michael, 17, Paris, 15, and 12-year-old Blanket.

Spike Lee Reveals Why His 2009 MJ Birthday Tribute Was Moved To Prospect Park. 26-02-'14

Spike LeeSpike Lee dropped by Pratt Institute for a Black History Month lecture on February 25. His talk extensively mined the hot-button issue gripping his beloved former neighborhood and borough regarding gentrification, referencing a NY Times article written about it. (See: “Argument Over a Brownstone Neighborhood”) “I don’t believe that,” said Lee.

And for the next seven minutes he explained, with passion, humor, and a fair amount of profanity. (Explicit language has been taken out for posting.)

“Nah. You can’t do that. You can’t just come in the neighborhood and start bogarting and say, like you’re Columbus and kill off the Native Americans. Or what they do in Brazil, what they did to the indigenous people. You have to come with respect. There’s a code. There’s people.”

“You can’t just — here’s another thing: When Michael Jackson died they wanted to have a party for him in Fort Greene Park and all of a sudden the white people in Fort Greene said, “Wait a minute! We can’t have black people having a party for Michael Jackson to celebrate his life. Who’s coming to the neighborhood? They’re gonna leave lots of garbage.” Garbage? Have you seen Fort Greene Park in the morning? It’s like the Westminster Dog Show. There’s 20,000 dogs running around. Whoa. So we had to move it to Prospect Park!”

“I mean, they just move in the neighborhood. You just can’t come in the neighborhood. I’m for democracy and letting everybody live but you gotta have some respect. You can’t just come in when people have a culture that’s been laid down for generations and you come in and now s*** gotta change because you’re here?”

Michael Painted In Nutella. 26-02-'14

Who needs a paint palette, easel and brush when you can have a pot of Nutella, a knife and a kitchen floor?

Well that’s exactly what German fan Stephan Gerick used to paint a portrait of Michael, depicting him from the Bad Tour in the late 1980s. And what a great job he did of it as well! Watch him create his masterpiece…and we won’t blame you if you feel a bit peckish afterwards!

The music used in the video is called ‘Hope’ and features a part of Michael’s speech from the 1993 Grammy Awards.

Michael Jackson, Inc.: The Rise, Fall, And Rebirth Of A Billion-Dollar Empire (Book). 25-02-'14
Release date: 03-06-2014

Michael Jackson, Inc. Book CoverMichael Jackson, Inc. reveals the incredible rise, fall, and rise again of Michael Jackson’s fortune—driven by the unmatched perfectionism of the King of Pop. Forbes senior editor Zack O’Malley Greenburg uncovers never-before-told stories from interviews with more than 100 people, including music industry veterans Berry Gordy, John Branca, and Walter Yetnikoff; artists 50 Cent, Sheryl Crow, and Jon Bon Jovi; and members of the Jackson family.

Other insights come from court documents and Jackson’s private notes, some of them previously unpublished. Through Greenburg’s novelistic telling, a clear picture emerges of Jackson’s early years, his rise to international superstardom, his decline—fueled by demons internal and external, as well as the dissolution of the team that helped him execute his best business moves—and, finally, his financial life after death.

Underlying Jackson’s unique history is the complex but universal tale of the effects of wealth and fame on the human psyche. A valuable case study for generations of entertainers to come and for anyone interested in show business, Michael Jackson, Inc. tells the story of a man whose financial feats, once obscured by his late-life travails, have become an enduring legacy.

The J5 and Kanlan GaveKanlan Gave The Jackson 5 Some Early Pointers. 25-02-'14

During the early to mid-1960s the best soul dance scene in America was in Chicago.

People were shaking it up to “The Monkey Time” by Major Lance, “Bossa Nova Bird” by the Dells, Dee Clark’s “Crossfire Time” and many others. These tunes helped birth the “Soul Train” television series and some are revisited in the acclaimed “Chicago’s Golden Soul (A ‘60s Revue)” currently at the Black Ensemble Theater, 4450 N. Clark.

Chicago was good as gold to Perry Craig Kanlan, a.k.a. “Dancin’ Man.”

“Dancin’ Man” doesn’t dance anymore. He has arthritis in his knees. He recently had brain surgery for lesions. He is facing eviction from his Marina City apartment, crammed with racks of stage outfits and 4,380 record albums. Kanlan hobbles around his 725-square foot apartment with steps measured in another time.

Kanlan turns 71 on Feb. 28.

Dancin’ Man has no immediate relatives aside from one younger sister who is in poor health. He is afraid his lifetime of memories will soon be cast onto State Street. Chicago has been his dancing partner and now the turntables will be turned as a benefit for Kanlan takes place at 7 p.m. Feb. 25 in the House of Blues Foundation Room. ($10 donation.) Old school vinyl will be spun, followed by Andrea McNeal and the Hip City Band. Expect guest performers. Dancin’ Man will be in attendance.

Kanlan may have slowed down physically but he hasn’t lost a step of moxie. He says he gave the Jackson 5 some early pointers.

“In 1966 I was going to do my James Brown at (the high school) Gilroy Stadium in Gary, Indiana and we couldn’t find any records,” he says during a conversation in his 725-square foot apartment. “We saw this young family group and asked them if they could play James Brown. They said, ‘Yeah’,’” and they backed me up including Michael. Everyone said the Jackson 5 were another 5 Stairsteps. (Of “Ooh Child” fame) I have one of the only pictures of the Jackson 5 with the 5 Stairsteps. I visited with the Jacksons in 2012 when they were at the Star Plaza. Me and Tito (Jackson) are tight.

“Let me tell you, the ‘Moonwalk’ is nothing but the ‘Camelwalk’ in reverse.”

Kanlan has hundreds of pictures of him with actor Pam Grier, Lola Falana, James Brown and others. He was the original “Dancing With The Stars.” And he danced on “Soul Train.”
This year is the 50th anniversary of the Martha Reeves & The Vandellas hit “Dancin’ in the Street.” Of course “Dancin’ Man” danced with the Vandellas.

“For the last 30 years he would show up at my shows whenever I appeared in Chicago,” Reeves said Friday in a call from Detroit. “He’d often be with Tony Wilson (they had a “Night and Day,” act, with Wilson being black and Kanlan being white.) They’d come on my stage and dance. They’d do acrobatics. He was ‘Dancin’ Boy’ then. He was always a snappy dresser. I’m sorry to hear about his problems. I pray that he gets settled in a new place.”

Michael Jackson, Inc. PaintingBorbay Paints Michael Jackson, Inc. Book Cover. 25-02-'14

Rewind to December, 2010. I recall pondering a portrait series, but found I had 99 problems and picking a portrait subject was one. As fate would have it, I decided to paint Jay Z, which lead to a series of hip hop stars nearly identical to Zack O’Malley Greenburg’s Cash Kings.

So, I called into Forbes, asked for Zack, got him on the phone, talked about the work, he previewed the show, wrote about it for Forbes, and that’s how it all began. Shortly thereafter, Mr. O’Malley Greenburg released his first book, Empire State of Mind (HOV loved it by the way).

As artists are wont to do, we spoke frequently about our upcoming projects… turns out, Zack began to research for his new book — Michael Jackson, Inc.. ‘Wouldn’t it be great to collaborate on the cover?”

Michael Jackson, Inc. — the book cover. This black-and-white beauty was designed by Anna Dorfman of Simon & Schuster… and Door Sixteen… we’ve been working on this collaboration for months, and I’m thrilled to share it with you.

For those of you who are visiting for the first time, I lay out my entire creation process for each work from start-to-finish. Here is Michael.

Wade Robson -- I Want A List Of Every Boy Michael Jackson Allegedly Molested. 25-02-'14

Wade RobsonFamed choreographer Wade Robson -- who claims he was repeatedly molested as a kid by Michael Jackson -- wants the MJ Estate to ante up evidence they have of Michael molesting underage boys.

Robson has filed a claim with the Estate asking for money as a result of allegedly being molested between the ages of 7 and 14. In new legal docs -- obtained by TMZ -- Robson is demanding:

-- the names and other identifying info of all boys who were under 18 when alleged sexual misconduct occurred.

-- any settlements involving molestation that have not yet been made public.

-- any evidence of seduction -- even a failed attempt at molestation -- such as giving children wine ... aka Jesus juice.

The Estate has responded by saying all the info Robson wants is privileged. They also say the request is premature because they believe Robson waited way too late to file his claim.

The Estate Of Michael Jackson Enters Partnership With Sony Mobile. 24-02-'14

The Estate of Michael Jackson and Epic Records are very excited about the partnership with Sony Mobile announced this morning at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. We are thrilled with the use of the new solo Michael Jackson recording, “Slave To The Rhythm,” which is featured in the 90 second online spot for the new Xperia Z2 phone. For those of you not lucky enough to be in the room for the premiere of the spot, look for it online!

The song was worked on during Jackson’s Dangerous sessions and completed in 1998, before leaking onto the internet in 2010. A version featuring vocals from Justin Bieber emerged online in August 2013.
Buyers of the smartphone are reportedly being treated to ‘something special’ around Jackson’s music.

What exactly it is remains to be seen, but given Sony Music’s ties with Jackson’s current music library, it is possible users will see tracks bundled with the device.

The smartphone is unique in that it features a digital noise canceling processor in the handset, providing improved sound quality in noisy environments with its included headphones.
Sony has promised more information on the Michael Jackson news over the coming weeks.

Sony‘s Xperia Z1 came very close to being up there with the very best of smartphones in 2013, but was let down by a select few features that stopped it being truly great.
Now we have the Xperia Z2 and with it, Sony appears to have addressed every major problem we had with the first generation Z1. Read more here.

3T Vowed To Help Raise Michael Jackson’s Children After His Death. 22-02-'14

3T made a vow to help raise their uncle Michael Jackson’s children after he died.

The three band members Taj Jackson, Taryll Jackson and TJ Jackson are Michael’s nephews and after his shock passing in June 2009 they all told their grandmother Katherine Jackson they would always be there for his kids, Prince Michael, 16, Paris, 15, and 11-year-old Blanket.

During an appearance on UK TV show ‘Lorraine’, TJ said: “Since my uncle passed – we lost our mother at young ages too – and that’s a very hard thing to get over so when my uncle passed, my brothers and I, we told our grandmother we’ll be there for her and do everything we can to help her and the kids. It’s been hard, it’s been tough, this is why it’s taken us so long to come out [into the spotlight again] as well because our focus has been them, to make sure they’re back on track and adjusting as best as they can. They’re doing really well … it’s a hard position they’re in but they’re doing well.”

3T – whose father is Michael’s brother Tito – are currently featuring on TV show ‘The Big Reunion’, which shows them making a new bid for pop success.

The ‘Anything’ hitmakers are delighted to have been given another opportunity to perform together again.

Tarryll said: “It was just more politics and things that prevented us to continue our career … A lot has happened since the last time we were on stage.”

TJ – who is co-guardian to Michael’s children – said: “Things in life got in the way so we went back to make sure our lives were in order before we continued our career.
