Kanye WestKanye West To Receive MTV VMA's Vanguard Award. 31-08-'15

It’s that time of year again! The MTV VMA's returned to Los Angeles on Sunday (August 30), and the stars were out to play. With Miley Cyrus leading the charge as host just two years after that infamous foam finger incident, the night showcased music’s biggest names and collaborations.

Kanye West was honoured with the the Video Vanguard Award at last night’s MTV VMA's and used his acceptance speech to get a few things off his chest. West was presented the award by Taylor Swift and delivered a passionate speech touching on the idea of artistry, the merits of award shows and his possible move into politics.

West famously interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 VMA's, when she won the award for Best Female Video over Beyoncé. Addressing the incident during his speech West said, “First of all, thank you Taylor for being so gracious and giving me this award this evening. And I often think back to the first day I met you…”

Jay Z’s Tribute To Michael. 30-08-'15

While Beyoncé ranks second on Instagram with 44.4 million followers, her husband Jay Z doesn't even have an account on the photo-sharing network. That is, until Saturday (August 29), when the rapper joined Instagram to post a photo remembering Michael Jackson on what would have been the King of Pop's 57th birthday. "Happy Birthday to the King!" the rapper wrote. "This may be my first and last post." That turned out to be prophetic: After quickly climbing to 100,000 followers, the @Hovsince96 account was deactivated Sunday morning, the New York Daily News reports.

Michael at the Summer Jam 2001 (28-06-2001

Michael Jackson makes a surprise appearance at the 'Summer Jam 2001' in Long Island, USA.

Jay Z posted a split photo of himself and Michael Jackson at the 2001 Hot 97 Summer Jam, where the rapper brought out the Thriller singer as his surprise guest. Music executive Michael Kyser, a close friend of Jay Z, then posted a photo of the rapper on his phone crafting his Instagram debut. "Follow my brother @Hovsince96 ASAP," Kyser wrote, corroborating that the account belonged to Jay Z. Beyoncé also shared her own tribute to Jackson on her account. (After years atop Instagram's Most Followed list, the singer was finally bypassed by Kim Kardashian West in August.)

However, 12 hours and 100,000 followers later, @Hovsince96 was gone. Jay Z didn't just stop using the account; he deactivated completely. The quick Instagram cameo continues Jay Z's sporadic use of social media. Despite having a verified Twitter account, the rapper rarely used the service, although his tweet activity did spike in the months following the arrival of Tidal. Jay Z even went on a Twitter tirade defending his all-star music streaming service.

Jackson’s siblings Jermaine and LaToya both tweeted in honor of their brother, with Jermaine simply saying, “Hold close the memories” and LaToya noting, “Your presence elevated everyone! Your music brought us joy! Your gift will be with us always!” His brother Tito wished him a happy birthday on Facebook, alongside a childhood photo of the pair.

Jackson, who died on June 25, 2009, also received a flood of messages and photo tributes from fellow musicians and celebrities, including Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Pharrell, Chris Brown, Shawn Mendes and more.

Michael JacksonHappy Birthday, Michael Jackson! 29-08-'15

Michael it's your birthday and God bless you this day, I'm proud of you today.

Today, globally beloved singer and entertainer Michael Jackson would have celebrated his 57th birthday if not for his untimely and tragic passing in June of 2009. The King of Pop leaves behind a staggering legacy of music and memories spanning his 40-plus years in music. Recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by the Guinness Book of World Records, Jackson has released influential works and introduced dance routines that current entertainers still try their best to respectfully mimic.

Thank you Michael Jackson for everything ...

Love you Michael, Gone Too Soon.

Michael Jackson's Close Friend Auctions MJ's Sunglasses To Raise Money For Charity. 27-08-'15

Omer BhattiVery few of Michael Jackson's personal belongings have ever been sold. To raise money for charity, MJ's close friend Omer Bhatti is now auctioning off a pair of Michael Jackson's sunglasses from his Dangerous World Tour. The last time (2011) a pair of MJ's glasses were sold, the winning bid landed at $60K.

Omer Bhatti was 11 when he first met his idol Michael Jackson, and soon after he moved to Neverland with his mom and dad to live with The King of Pop. For the next nine years Omer and Michael lived, worked and toured together, and Omer and Michael's biological children are as close as siblings.

Omer has always kept his close relationship with Michael Jackson very private and has never sold either stories or items, but to raise money for charity he is now auctioning off one of his cherished belongings: the sunglasses MJ wore almost daily during his Dangerous World Tour. These are not stage glasses, but Michael's private glasses that he wore while on the move.

"When I was 15, my mom suffered from a serious stroke that turned our lives upside down. Sunnaas Rehabilitation Hospital in Norway helped her get her life back, and by donating these glasses, I want to raise as much money as possible to support their amazing work."

Omer's mom Pia was the nanny of Michael's children while the Bhatti family lived at Neverland, and Omer's decision to sell the glasses has been blessed by the Jackson family with whom he remains very close. The family has a policy not to sell any of MJ's personal belongings, but support this donation.

Michael Jackson's sunglasses are sold using the Snapsale app. Snapsale offers everyone the opportunity to sell their stuff fast and hassle free. For Michael Jackson's sunglasses, the latest bid is stated as the current price.

"Everyone can take part in the auction by placing a bid using Snapsale. I wouldn't be where I am doing what I love if it hadn't been for Michael, and my mom wouldn't have been here if it hadn't been for Sunnaas Hospital."

To place a bid, install the Snapsale app and search for either Omer or Michael Jackson.

Spike Lee’s Annual MJ Birthday Celebration To Unveil 'Do The Right Thing Way'. 26-08-'15

A mash-up block party from director Spike Lee is set to celebrate the co-naming of a Bed-Stuy street and pay tribute to the King of Pop.

Lee’s annual Michael Jackson birthday celebration returns to the neighborhood on Saturday (August 29) , coinciding with the unveiling of “Do The Right Thing Way,” according to an announcement on the director’s Facebook page.

Stuyvesant Avenue between Lexington Avenue and Quincy Street will be co-named after the iconic movie filmed on the Bed-Stuy block.

The scheduled installation marks the first time a work of art will lend its name to a city street.

Brooklyn’s Community Board 3 approved the co-naming in June 2014 and Mayor Bill de Blasio signed the bill into law on Aug. 10.

Linda Hawkins, president of the street’s Do The Right Thing Way Block Association, said she was “thrilled” at the idea of the new signage.

Residents created the group in 2014 in honor of the classic film, Hawkins said, the same year Lee hosted a block party for the 25th anniversary of “Do the Right Thing.”

Do The Right Thing Way

A mash-up block party from director Spike Lee is set to celebrate the co-naming of a Bed-Stuy street and pay tribute to the King of Pop.

Saturday’s partygoers can walk Mookie’s brownstone-lined block as DJ Spinna plays tunes, many of which will include Michael Jackson’s hits.

While the festivities fall on the same day as the block association’s annual party and the street co-naming, it will also be combined with Lee’s “Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson” get-together, which in previous years has been held at Restoration Plaza and Prospect Park.

Celebrities like Snoop Dogg and Tracy Morgan have stopped by for appearances at prior events to honor the late pop star.

Representatives from 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, Lee’s production company, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday’s celebration.

The Brooklyn Loves MJ and Do the Right Thing Block Party will be held on Aug. 29, from noon to 6 p.m. on Stuyvesant Avenue between Lexington Avenue and Quincy Street.

Michael Jackson's Personal Chef Prepares King Of Pop's Favorite Foods At Oakland Bakery. 25-08-'15

Mani Niall
Mani Niall was Michael's personal chef and is now a accomplished cookbook author and owner of Oakland's Sweet Bar Bakery.

Mani Niall was Michael Jackson’s personal chef for two years at the peak of his fame, traveling the world with the star after the release of his seminal album 'Thriller'.

Niall is now an accomplished cookbook author and owner of Oakland’s Sweet Bar Bakery (2355 Broadway). He remembers Jackson with fondness and will celebrate his birthday on Aug. 29 by cooking up some of the King of Pop’s favorite dishes from their time together.

As a Jehovah’s Witness, Jackson never celebrated his birthday when Niall was his chef, so this is Niall’s way of making up for lost time.

“His effect on my life is immeasurable and probably made me get serious about cooking,” Niall said. “It was just a job until I met him. I saw how hard he worked at his craft and it was, well, inspirational. Plus he had fun with the people he met and worked with, sort of like the best part of running a food business.”

Stop in at Sweet Bar starting Friday to try Jackson’s favorite pizza, which had shiitake mushrooms, Japanese eggplant and roasted peppers (“Very Eighties,” Niall joked). For dessert, Niall is serving “‘ookies,” which he likened to pecan sandies, dusted with maple sugar.

Christopher DemersMichael Jackson's Team Settles Lawsuit For $1 Million. 25-08-'15

King of Pop Michael Jackson's manager and choreographer have settled a lawsuit against his costume designer for close to $1 million.

The settlement is roughly double the amount they had sued for, reported the New York Daily News.

Manager Christopher Demers and choreographer Travis Payne said they helped Nestor (Zaldy) Goco score a lucrative deal to design outfits for the late star's final tour, which never took place. The singer died of a drug overdose in June 2009.

Payne, who worked with Jackson for 17 years, and Demers introduced the popular designer to the 'Beat It' singer earlier that year, urged Jackson to hire him. When he did, they struck a deal with Zaldy to be paid 20% of his royalties.

The designer created costumes that dripped with Swarovski crystals and would have dazzled audiences with led lights.

Zaldy, who has also designed costumes for the likes of Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga, stopped paying the pair at some point after Jackson died and they sued in 2014, saying Zaldy owed them as much as $480,000. "We tried to settle this amicably several times," Demers said. "But he repeatedly defaulted on his own proposed settlements. This was a mess."

They agreed to drop the suit when Zaldy agreed to give them 50% of his royalties on the Las Vegas Jackson tribute show, Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson ONE.

The $1 million settlement figure is based on an assumption that Michael Jackson ONE, like many Vegas shows, will have a 20-year run.

Katherine Jackson Charity Event, Day 2. 23-08-'15

Saturday (August 22), the second day of Katherine Jackson’s Charity Event, the sixth annual 'Michael Jackson I Can’t Stop Loving You Charity Event', dawns warm and sunny. Today my goal is to catch a glimpse of the Jackson family, so the plan is to drive straight to the Jackson house and wait for the family to appear. Many other fans have the same idea, so we all stand and wait along the fence, watching the security people come and go.

he house door is open, and we see a few glimpses of activity inside. Finally, around 12:45, the family comes out for a group photo out on the front steps of the house. After the photo event, they come to the fence to sign autographs and take photos with fans. All of the Jackson family are very gracious about giving autographs, and are polite and friendly with the fans.

Dancers, Singers, Fans And Family Tribute Michael Jackson In Gary For Charity Event. 22-08-'15

Surrounded by several friends and members of her family, Jackson matriarch Katherine Jackson held court Friday (August 21) in the Genesis Center.

In Gary to celebrate the life of her youngest son, the late Michael Jackson, with the sixth annual 'Michael Jackson I Can’t Stop Loving You Charity Event', she watched with interest as dancers emulated every step of his best-known routines. The event — also a school-supply giveaway for Gary students — kicks off a weekend devoted to Gary’s most famous native son a week before what would have been his 57th birthday.

Vanessa Pereira, Jasmina Maamesi and Jenny Fulimani, of the Malibu Fan Club from Germany, didn’t sleep a wink upon arrival in the states Thursday. On Friday morning, the trio saw the house in which the Jacksons lived on Jackson Street and couldn’t get over how small it is.

“It’s crazy to see where it all began,” Fulimani said. “How did they all manage?”

Maamesi said she first fell in love with Jackson, the King of Pop, in 1992 during the 'Dangerous Tour'. She was 12.

“He gave away all his money from that tour and the 'HIStory Tour.' That’s really impressive,” she said.

Also traveling a ways was Girl, a Los Angeles-based dance quartet comprised of Morgan Gordy, Leeyah Porter, Maariyah El-Shabazz and Aliah Woodson. The young women were scheduled to go on at 5 p.m. and planned to perform to Jackson’s 'I Just Can’t Stop Loving You' and 'Earth Song' and 'Red Bottoms,' an original song by them.

Charity Event

The performance was especially important for the women because they said they were invited by Katherine Jackson.

“She saw us and fell in love with our voices, so she asked us to come out here,” Woodson said. “This is the best opportunity to perform for her and the family. We’re nervous, but we’re more excited and anxious to get up there.”

“He’s one of our all-time favorite singers,” Gordy added.

Johnny Rucker, a member of the Gary Youth Council, worked behind the scenes with the production crew. It was the second time he’s gotten to participate.

“Seeing all these people here from around the country and the world goes to show how loved Michael was. People really idolize him,” Rucker said.

Marvin King and Daniel “Danny J” Sutton, who perform in Atlanta under the moniker Mannish Mania, love coming back to celebrate their hero as well.

“He always gave us hope, that even if you were from Gary, you could make it,” King said.

Artist Completes 12ft Tall Portrait Of Michael Jackson With 1,680 Soda-Pop Cans. 21-08-'15

Los Angeles artist Seaton Brown recently completed a commissioned 12ft tall portrait of Michael Jackson made from 1,680 unpainted soda-pop cans entitled “A Tribute to the King of Pop V2”.

The 144sqft piece was unveiled in an impromptu, guerrilla-style street-art showing on the corner of Hollywood and Highland at midday about 2 weeks ago, where the artist and his team erected the megalith on the sidewalk. Onlookers blocked traffic to get a photo of the piece, which could be seen from a block away at the El Capitan theater.

This is the second such work Brown has done in addition to similar pieces, such as a 6ft tall portrait of Pamela Anderson made from candy and candy wrappers entitled “Eye Candy” – which was ultimately eaten by rats (a fitting end to the piece and the commentary the artist was making).

The “King of Pop V2” was crated and shipped across country where it will be placed in one of the Ripley’s Entertainment museums, as yet to be determined.

Michael Jackson's Kids Cost £2.75 Million A Year. 17-08-'15

Michael Jackson's children cost £2.75 million to care for in one year.

New court papers filed by the late 'Thriller' star's lawyers show the huge sum was spent on Prince, 18, Paris, 16, and 13-year-old Bigi - who was previously known as Blanket, though his real name is Prince Michael II - two years ago, with expenses including £290,000 on a house in Calabasas, California, which is rented for the kids at the cost of £22,000 a month.

A total of £48,000 in fees for Buckley School was also spent for Prince and Paris, before the latter dropped out, with £19,000 also being spent on a separate school for ''young performers'' according to The Sun newspaper.

Other expenses included chartering a private plane for £90,000, £300,000 on staff at their properties as well as £30,000 on other workers, £600 on Bigi's 11th birthday bash and £274,000 for a trip to Hawaii with Prince and Paris' biological mother, Debbie Rowe.

MJ Kids

Michael Jackson’s children, Prince Michael, Paris and Prince Michael II (Blanket).

The children are cared for by the music icon's 85-year-old mother Katherine, whose Hayvenhurst home has been purchased by the estate and renovated for in excess of £380,000.

Michael - who died of cardiac arrest in 2009, aged 50 - left £320 million worth of debt when he passed away, although his assets have been valued at £160 million, with others suggesting they could be worth over £1 billion.

The three children are set to inherit equal shares of the estate, but not until they reach the age of 33, where they will receive half, with the rest being given to them aged 40.

Pharrell Williams Reveals Michael Jackson Was Into Tall Brazilian Women. 14-08-'15

PharrellWilliamsThe king of mind control! Pharrell Williams has revealed that Michael Jackson was a master of catching people off guard -- and the first time he met the King of Pop, he was stunned to find him kissing a beautiful Brazilian woman right in front of him!

Talking in an exclusive preview of Sunday (August 16) other tone with Pharrell Williams and Scott Vener, the 'Happy' singer dishes on his first ever meeting with Jackson, and how his mind was blown when the legendary singer started making out with a hot woman right in front of him!

"I met him two times," Williams reveals on the show. "Talk about mind control, he was a genius! We get into the trailer, it's a two story trailer, the trailer has stairs!" the 42-year-old musician says, laughing.

"He comes in, he's tall, standing there, two beautiful women walk in, he kisses one. It's a moment!" Williams explains. "It ain't like no peck, it's a situation. [The women] look Brazilian, and I'm like, 'Wow!’ He's the king of catching you off guard."

Williams goes on to explain the second time he heard from the late 'Billie Jean' singer, he was in a recording studio with Justin Timberlake, when he received a completely unexpected phone call.

"The [first] meeting was supposed to be for us to meet to talk about music, and the songs that he turned down, I don't think he realized that I was going to give those songs to Justin," Williams explains. "So I’m in the studio with Justin, and they say, 'Got a call for you on line 1, it's Michael Jackson," the singer goes on.

"So I'm thinking it's one of my friends trying to be funny. And I heard someone eating popcorn in my ear, that's how I know that it's him. He's the king of control, I think he invented it! He's like, 'Hey, okay, you working with Justin? Ah that's really nice, okay cool, well you guys have a great session, tell Justin I said, 'Hello,''" Williams continues. "And Justin was like, 'Who was that? Michael? Yeah he does that.'"
