Michael Jackson's Former NYC Mansion Is Now $4 Million Cheaper. 31-05-'18

The former Upper East Side home of the late pop star Michael Jackson is now $4 million cheaper.

The home, on East 74th Street between Fifth and Madison avenues, is listed for just $35 million, a few months after going on the market for $39 million, according to the listing by Modlin Group.

American architect Alexander Welch, who was behind Alexander Hamilton’s well-known residence in Harlem, designed the six-story house in the Beaux-Arts tradition. Jackson rented the mansion in the 1990's.

Most recently, it was owned by billionaire and Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry, who recently put it on the market with a $39 million price tag, Curbed reported.

The space comes with a long list of amenities, including a garden-level terrace, a rooftop deck and 10 fireplaces.

Michael Jackson Estate Sues ABC Over TV Special. 30-05-'18

The estate of Michael Jackson is suing Disney, saying an ABC television special on the singer's last days infringed on its intellectual property.

The Associated Press obtained the lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. court in Los Angeles against the network and parent company Disney.

It alleges that last week's special, "The Last Days of Michael Jackson," illegally uses significant excerpts of his most valuable songs, including 'Billie Jean' and 'Bad' and music videos, including 'Thriller' and 'Black Or White'. It says the special also used clips from a documentary and feature film belonging to the estate.

ABC representatives didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. But when the Jackson camp raised objections last week, the network defended it as a news show that didn't violate the estate's rights.

Lenny KravitzLenny Kravitz Hails Inspirational Michael Jackson. 25-05-'18

'Low', the new Duet with Michael Jackson…

Lenny Kravitz said Michael Jackson “made” music happen for him, after his first concert was the Jackson 5 at Madison Square Garden. Lenny Kravitz has hailed Michael Jackson as hugely influential on his career in music.

The ‘Are You Gonna Go My Way’ hitmaker’s first ever concert was seeing the Jackson 5 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and he was a fan of the late King of Pop from that day forward.

And Lenny fulfilled a life-long dream when he got to work with Michael in 2001 during session’s for his final LP ‘Invincible’.

Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, Lenny said: “He’s the person who made it happen for me. He loved [us] working together. He asked me to push him. I did.”

Although Michael tragically passed away aged 50 in 2009, the pair will be heard singing a duet on 53-year-old Lenny’s upcoming 11th studio album ‘Raise Vibration’.

The duo both sing on the track ‘Low’, and Lenny admitted some people listening to the LP – which comes out in September – actually thought he was doing an impression of MJ on the track.

He revealed: “A lot of people say: ‘Oh, you’re doing that Michael Jackson impersonation.’ No, that’s him.”

Earlier this week, Lenny announced his first UK tour in three years, as he confirmed plans to perform next month in Manchester, Birmingham and London.

Michael Jackson Estate Slams TV Network Over 'Last Day' Special. 24-05-'18

The Estate Of Michael Jackson
The Estate Of Michael Jackson.

The Michael Jackson estate is objecting to an ABC TV special airing Thursday on the end of the life of the late King of Pop, calling it a crass attempt to exploit Jackson without respect for his legacy or children.

The estate said in a statement to The Associated Press on Wednesday (May 23) that 'The Last Days Of Michael Jackson' is not sponsored or approved by Jackson’s heirs, and will most likely violate their intellectual property rights.

Advertising for the two-hour documentary set to air Thursday night says it will reveal new information on Jackson, and focuses on his apparent decline in the run-up to his death at age 50 on June 25, 2009.

“We believe the special to be another crass and unauthorized attempt to exploit the life, music and image of Michael Jackson without respect for Michael’s legacy, intellectual property rights or his children,” the estate’s statement says.
Representatives for ABC owner Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The estate said ABC was using a copyrighted silhouette and photo to promote the special, but stopped after demands from Jackson attorneys.

The estate said it understands the show other intellectual property without permission, including music, photos and artwork.

“It is particularly disheartening that Disney, a company known to strongly believe in protecting its own IP rights, would choose to ignore these rights belonging to the Estate,” the statement said.

Doctors Explain Michael Jackson's Impossible Dance Move. 22-05-'18

Neurosurgeons have described in detail how Michael Jackson achieved biomechanically impossible dance moves in his music video 'Smooth Criminal'.

In the 1987 routine, Michael leans from the ankle at a 45 degree angle, while keeping his body straight as a rod.

The illusion, which many have tried to copy, was thanks to specially designed shoes and the artist's core strength.

The spine experts warn others against attempting the potentially injurious but mind-boggling move.

Manjul Tripathi and colleagues from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India, say in the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine: "Most trained dancers with strong core strength will reach a maximum of 25 to 30 degrees of forward bending while performing this action. MJ pulled off a gravity-defying 45 degree move that seems unearthly to any witness."

If a person were to attempt the 'Smooth Criminal' lean, they would notice that the bulk of the strain to strike the pose moves to the Achilles tendon in each ankle, rather than the erector spinae muscles of the back.

This allows for only a very limited degree of forward bend, even for someone matching Michael's strong athletic abilities, explains Assistant Prof Tripathi.

Michael got the extra degrees of tilt thanks to some fancy footwear.

Smooth Criminal Dance Move
In the short film for 'Smooth Criminal' Michael Jackson, together with some dancers goes straight forward in a corner of 45 degrees.

A v-shaped slit in the bottom of each heel of his spats slotted onto a strong nail or "hitch member" driven into the ground, allowing the dancer to pivot and lean further forward, for the gravity-defying move.

Prior to the patented footwear invention, Michael had relied on supporting cables and a harness around his waist to create the illusion.

It's said that he and two Hollywood colleagues borrowed the footwear idea from US astronauts' boots, which can be docked to a fixed rail when working in zero gravity.

But even with specially designed footwear and the support of the hitch member, the move is incredibly hard to pull off, requiring athletic core strength from strengthened spinal and lower-limb muscles, say the doctors.

"Several MJ fans, including the authors, have tried to copy this move and failed, often injuring themselves in their endeavours," they caution.

Dr Tripathi said: "The chances of injury to the ankle are significant. You need strong core muscles and good support around the ankle. It's not a simple trick."

Sony Agrees To Buy Additional 60 Percent Stake In EMI, Now To Own 90 Percent. 22-05-'18

The purchase from Mubadala Investment Company — which is pending regulatory approval before it can close — brings the Japanese conglomerate’s total share up to 90 percent.

Sony Corporation has signed a deal to acquire a 60 percent share in EMI Music Publishing from a consortium led by the Mubadala Investment Company. It increases Sony’s stake in the company to 90 percent overall, in a deal that carried a $4.75 billion valuation.

It appears the Michael Jackson Estate still owns the remaining 10 percent of EMI Music Publishing.

With both parties signing a “legally binding” memorandum of understanding for the acquisition — which is pending regulatory approval and other conditions before it can close — the arrangement will give Sony publishing assets that generated about $1.334 billion in revenue last year, Billboard estimates.

“We are thrilled to bring EMI Music Publishing into the Sony family and maintain our number one position in the music publishing industry,” Sony Corp. president and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said Monday in a statement. “The music business has enjoyed a resurgence over the past couple of years, driven largely by the rise of paid subscription-based streaming services. In the entertainment space, we are focusing on building a strong IP portfolio, and I believe this acquisition will be a particularly significant milestone for our long-term growth.”

Sony/ATV
Sony & The Michael Jackson Estate in control of EMI.

EMI Music Publishing generated adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $249 million on revenues of $663 million in the fiscal year ended March 31.

According to the announcement, Sony will assume EMI Music Publishing’s debt, which totaled $1.359 billion as of March 31, and expects to pay $2.3 billion, which totals $3.659 billion. If the Jackson estate still owns its nearly 10 percent stake, which the deal appears to value at $475 million, that leaves another $660 million is unaccounted for — which could be additional debt.

EMI Music Publishing owns or administers over 2 million songs that include classics by Queen, Carole King and the Motown catalog, along with contemporary songs from Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Drake, Sam Smith, Pink, Pharrell Williams, Calvin Harris, Fetty Wap, Hozier and more, according to Sony.

“EMI Music Publishing represents one of the world’s largest and most diverse catalog of copyrights with iconic songs that span every decade over the last one hundred years,” said Mubadala Capital head of private equity and EMI Music Publishing chairman Adib Mattar. “The sale of our consortium’s interest in EMI Music Publishing represents a milestone for Mubadala and our private equity business.”

As Johnn Branca is a consultant on the Sony board, it is now clear that Sony will now control all assets from EMI, and of course Sony/ATV. Michael Jackson’s own catalogue is still under the control of the Michael Jackson Estate (still signed at Sony)

'The Last Days Of Michael Jackson': Doc Features Never-Before-Seen Interviews. 18-05-'18

The Last Days Of Michael Jackson SpecialABC has unveiled the news about the upcoming documentary, 'The Last Days Of Michael Jackson'. The two-hour special features never-before-seen interviews with the late singer conducted by ABC News anchors Barbara Walters and Diane Sawyer.

The documentary traces Jackson's rise as the King of Pop, from growing up in Gary, Indiana, and his Jackson 5 days through to his comeback concerts and untimely death. The clip opens with a montage of Jackson's fast-paced life, with footage of him onstage and being hounded by paparazzi. "The star needs some space, give him a chance to relax," Jackson says. "He has a heart. He is human. Let him have a bed, a pillow. What more can I give?"

Later, he alludes to the increasing pressure he was under. "People expect more and more because once it's done, it is immortal," he says. "You can't go back."

The clip includes his sister Janet Jackson reflecting on the loss of her brother. Others in his circle also discuss the drugs that were administered to the singer leading up to his final days.

Prior to his death, Jackson announced his final tour, but 18 days before the first date, Jackson died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on June 25, 2009. The coroner ruled that Jackson died of "acute Propofol intoxication." 'The Last Days Of Michael Jackson' will air on May 24th.

The Jackson FiveDetroit To Name Street In Tribute To Michael Jackson. 17-05-'18

Nearly half a century after Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 ignited their career with a successful Motown audition, the City of Detroit will officially commemorate the group's local history.

A stretch of Randolph Street in the city's theater district will be renamed Michael Jackson Avenue, announced Stephen Brady, chief of staff for Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones. A ceremony will be held on the site June 15 as part of the Detroit Music Weekend festival.

The surviving Jacksons, who will headline the fest, will also be bestowed a key to the city by Mayor Mike Duggan, said Alexis Wiley, the mayor's chief of staff.

The Indiana group was signed to Motown in 1968, recording at the company’s West Grand Boulevard studios before migrating to Los Angeles as Berry Gordy Jr. steadily moved operations there. The Jackson 5 was with Motown through 1975 — racking up hits such as 'I Want You Back', 'ABC' and 'I’ll Be There' — and renamed itself the Jacksons when the group signed with Epic Records.

The street renaming was announced Thursday morning at a media event for Detroit Music Weekend, a festival to be headlined June 16 by the surviving Jacksons — Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon.

Jackie Jackson and Marlon Jackson were on hand for Thursday’s press event at Music Hall.

The free festival, spearheaded by Music Hall, will run June 14-17 in the city’s theater district.

Detroit Music Weekend debuted last summer with a headlining performance by Aretha Franklin, in what may have been her final hometown show. In a tearful, emotional event that week, the Queen of Soul was honored with her own street — a stretch of Madison unveiled as Aretha Franklin Way.

Detroit Music Weekend will also include performances by Grand Funk Railroad’s Mark Farner, actor-musician Jeff Daniels, funk bandleader Will Sessions and country-rocker Craig Brown. Detroit techno DJs will play at the fest’s newly added Paradise Valley stage.

Michael Jackson Avenue is the latest in a recent flurry of Detroit-area musical street tributes, including Aretha Franklin Way, Stevie Wonder Avenue and Glenn Frey Drive. A campaign to christen a Bob Seger Boulevard in Ann Arbor was launched last week.

The Maxi 45 Promo Tour Of 'Smile' Will Be Exhibited At The Yuz Museum In Shanghai. 17-05-'18

Charlie ChaplinA major exhibition entitled Charlie Chaplin, A Vision will be proposed from June 8 to October 7, 2018 by the Musée de l'Elysée and co-produced by the Yuz Museum in Shanghai.

Designed chronologically, it aims to better understand the modernity of Charles Chaplin and his timeless character, shedding new light on their profound humanism. Who was Charles Chaplin? What did he see of this world and how did it shape his art? What was he trying to convey to us? How the world and the artists of his time and our days have perceived the man and the vagabond? The exhibition explores what made its success, which resulted in and nurtured its critical fortune and measured the role that the photographic image played in the prosperity of the legend. Through a set of counter-fields on his life and career, and unveiling the secrets of his cinematic language, the exhibition also attempts to re-evaluate Chaplin's revolutionary artistic legacy.

With more than 300 photographs and documents from the Chaplin Archives and nearly two hours of film clips, the exhibition includes various works from private collections and public institutions (original posters, videos, paintings, drawings, lithographs) that highlight the impact of Charles Chaplin's figure on the production of international artists from the avant-gardes of the 1920's to the present day.

Smile Maxi-Single CoverAnd be aware that among the objects from private collections that will be on display at the Yuz Museum in Shanghai, will be the maxi-single 'Smile' of our dear friend Hector Barjot which you follow the videos here and on You Tube.

You can also find the special video where Hector interview Steven Whitsitt, the author of the photograph featured on 'Smile's maxi-single here.

You can also find the video of Hector which details you this famous vinyl because unfortunately copies exist and fans are still made by crooks. This is happening here.

The presence of such a collector at this exhibition once again demonstrates the importance of Michael Jackson's fans in preserving his artistic heritage. And since we have the opportunity to say it here, we strongly encourage you to keep your collectors as well as no one else but the fans will do as well.
