Off The Wall Album CoverMichael Jackson's 'Off The Wall' Resonates At 40. 10-08-'19

On August 10, 1979, Michael's fifth solo album 'Off The Wall' was published, the first of his new phase as a world superstar. This album launched Jackson into the stratosphere of music evolution, and in Jackson's mind, had been years in the making.

In 1979, Michael Jackson was already a successful and renowned artist. He has achieved tremendous popularity with the Jacksons 5, and has also embarked on his solo career with four albums, 'Got To Be There' (1972), 'Ben' (1972), 'Music And Me'' (1973) and 'Forever, Michael' (1975).

Clearly not satisfied with the pleasant, but diminutive solo output during his Motown tenure, now at Epic Records Jackson sought to make an impact worth remembering outside of the context of being a charter member of The Jacksons. Enter Quincy Jones, the production maestro Jackson worked with on the film adaption of 'The Wiz' two years prior. Hitting it off personally and professionally, each had a unified vision for what became 'Off The Wall'.

Danceable, groovy, and downtempo elements all cohered on 'Off The Wall'. The bursting 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' was filled to the brim with cascading strings, throbbing bass, varied percussive elements. Through all of this, Jackson whooped, crooned, and sang his heart out. The vibrancy that characterized the searing 'Get On The Floor' and 'Workin' Day & Night' was muscular instead of the prototypical R&B macho-fuel that drove a few of Jackson's male colleagues. The springy 'Rock With You' further found Jackson well-mannered, but not any less enthused.

Five singles were released, with the first four reigning as Jackson standards. All four singles were U.S. Top 10 hits, a first in American music history. 'Off The Wall' also gave Jackson his first solo Grammy win in 1980 for "Best Male R&B Vocal Performance" for 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough'.

The record would certify platinum seven times in America and globally moved over 20 million copies. On October 21st, 2001 the record received a generous remastering, tacking on several demo tracks and interview segments with Rod Temperton and Quincy Jones.

Katherine Jackson, 89, ‘Too Weak’ To Look After Michael’s Son Blanket As She Loses Guardianship.
09-08-'19

Katherine JacksonMichael Jackson’s mother Katherine Jackson was reportedly ‘too weak’ to continue looking after the singer’s youngest child, Blanket, as news of his new guardianship has been revealed.

The 17-year-old has been under his grandmother’s care since the King of Pop died in 2009, but it’s now been revealed that he will be under the guardianship of his cousin TJ Jackson until he turns 18.

TJ had previously shared the career duties with Katherine, 89, but it’s claimed Blanket – who now goes by the name of Bigi – was eager to get out of his living situation with Katherine.

‘TJ has been a father figure to those kids since Michael’s death and he always puts their needs before his own,’ a source told Radar Online. ‘The current situation that Blanket has been in is not working for anyone, and they needed to get a different situation going stat.’

The source hints that Blanket felt he was being put in a situation where he had to care for his grandmother and that she was ‘too weak’ and didn’t have enough ‘energy’ to parent the growing teen.

‘It was not at all fair,’ the insider continued. ‘Prince and Paris are not around much, and she relies on him to help her. But Blanket was not equipped to handle that role, and he shouldn’t have to.’

Compared to his elder siblings Prince and 21-year-old Paris, Blanket has proven to be quite reclusive and doesn’t often make public appearances. But he recently appeared at the graduation of his brother, 22-year-old Prince, who graduated from the Loyola Marymount University School of Business in May.

Prince shared a photo of the two together at the ceremony on his Instagram page. The two brothers have since teamed up to launch their own movie and TV review series with cousin Taj Jackson on Prince’s YouTube channel.

Blanket spoke enthusiastically about the latest Avengers movie, in a video which has attracted over 200,000 thousand views on YouTube.

Since then, they have discussed other recent film and TV releases, such as 'Disney’s Aladdin' and the 'Game Of Thrones' series finale.

Siedah GarrettSiedah Garrett, The Final Guest Speaker At KINGVENTION. 08-08-'19

Kingvention, the Michael Jackson Convention, has revealed the final guest speaker: Siedah Garrett!

Siedah will join Darryl Phinnesse and Larry Stessel in London on September 21 and will share some amazing stories about her time with Michael Jackson.

No need to introduce Siedah to the fans but here a little description:

Siedah Garrett is a Grammy-winning and twice Oscar nominated singer/songwriter who has become one of the most sought-after lyricists in the world. A collaborator and band member of Michael Jackson’s, Garrett is most famous for co-writing MJ’s megahit 'Man In The Mirror' on his 'Bad' album, and the song 'Keep The Faith', which she co-wrote with him for his 'Dangerous' album. Garrett also recorded as MJ’s duet partner on 'I Just Can’t Stop Loving You', the chart-topping first single from 'Bad'. Due to a prior commitment with her record company, she was forced to decline Jackson’s invitation to perform with him on his Bad tour, but subsequently joined him as a background and featured vocalist on his 'Dangerous World Tour', which lasted over a year and a half.

Garrett has paid homage to Michael in a few of her solo releases, including her 2012 single 'Keep On Loving You', on which she shared her personal feelings and appreciation for his guidance, and for the opportunities he afforded her. Similarly, she recently wrote and recorded a duet with Vanessa Williams entitled 'I’ll Remember', as a tribute to her two favorite songwriters, Michael Jackson and John Lennon.

In addition to Jackson, Garrett has toured internationally with Madonna, Sergio Mendes, and mentor Quincy Jones. As a recording artist, her first big hit was the now classic duet with ex-Temptation Dennis Edwards, 'Don’t Look Any Further'. Artists who have recorded on Siedah’s original songs include Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis, Earth Wind & Fire, Common, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, will.i.am, Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Toto, Sheena Easton, Natalie Cole, Barry White, Pointer Sisters, Donna Summer, Dionne Warwick, Patti Austin, Roberta Flack, Vanessa Williams, Al Jarreau, and many others. Film and television productions to use Siedah’s music include the 'Shaft' remake, 'Lego Batman', 'Rio', 'Rio 2', 'Dreamgirls', 'The Voice', 'Fuller House', and the Playstation video game 'Nioh'.

Most recently, Garrett has transitioned to lyric writing for musical theatre, and is now collaborating on the musical production of Will Smith’s blockbuster film, 'The Pursuit Of Happyness'.

Garrett has become a go-to lyricist for special events and social causes, such as co-writing the opening ceremony theme songs for the 2007 and 2015 Special Olympics World Games, the musical theme for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, and the American Idol Gives Back fundraising campaign. She also is an active philanthropist, using her name, time and talents to make a difference in her family, community and throughout the world. Garrett is also a frequent guest speaker at many inner-city schools, universities and music industry conferences, in the US and world-wide, sharing her experiences, and offering her advice to our youth.

Michael Jackson’s Nephew TJ Jackson Wins Guardianship Of Cousin Blanket Until He Turns 18. 07-08-'19

TJ JacksonMichael Jackson’s nephew has been handed guardianship of the late pop star’s youngest son until he turns 18 in February.

TJ Jackson, who has shared guardianship of Prince Michael – aka Blanket – since 2012, has been granted an extension, which will leave him in charge of his cousin’s welfare for the rest of his childhood.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, TJ filed updated Letters of Guardianship documents earlier this week.

The agreement automatically ends when Blanket turns 18, “is adopted, marries, becomes emancipated by a court order, enters into active military duty, or dies”.

TJ has also been given “full legal and physical custody” of his cousin. He previously shared guardianship with the boys’ grandmother, Katherine Jackson, who stated that none of her son Michael’s kids had a “relationship with their biological mother”, when she first filed for custody of Blanket and his siblings Paris and Prince.

Katherine resigned her position as guardian to Blanket in 2012.

The teenager was seven when his father died in 2009.

Sheryl Crow: 'There Was A Huge Network Of People That Allowed' Michael Jackson's Alleged Abuse.
03-08-'19

Sheryl CrowSheryl Crow says there was ''a huge network of people that allowed'' Michael Jackson's alleged sexual abuse of young boys.

James Safechuck, 41, and Wade Robson, 36, claimed in the bombshell HBO documentary 'Leaving Neverland' that they were both abused by the late King of Pop when they joined him on tour as children and Sheryl - who was a backing singer on Michael's 'Bad' tour between 1987 and 1989 - admitted that she always felt uncomfortable about his relationship with James.

She told The Guardian newspaper: ''I happened to turn on CNN the morning after the first half [of the documentary] aired, and they showed clips of the young man who was on the Jackson tour with us and it made me ... I mean, I still feel really ...

''It's like a death in the family, you know? It's sad. [James Safechuck] was a great kid and the whole time he was with us - which was the better half of an 18-month tour - I always wondered: 'What in the world are his parents doing?', you know?

''Honestly, I think ... I think that there were a lot of exceptions made because of the damage that [Jackson] ... I mean, he didn't intentionally project it, but it was part of his aura - this almost being untouchable and almost alien-like [figure]. And, yeah, I mean, I'm sad, and I'm mad at a lot of people. I feel like there was just a huge network of people that allowed all that to go on. It's just tragic.''

Sheryl, 57, went on to reveal that she and Jackson were never close and he never got in touch with her after she made it as a star in her own right.

She said: ''I think he actually did not know my name for quite a long while. I saw him at the Grammys and I don't think he ever put together [who I was].''

Robson alleged he was sexually abused by Michael from the age of seven until 14, while Safechuck claimed he was a victim from the age of 10 until he hit puberty.

The movie's director Dan Reed defended his decision to air the movie and claimed that it shows the other side to what he called Michael's ''Peter Pan-ish image''.
