Michael On A Shopping In Beverly Hills. 30-11-'07

Michael Jackson's out and about in Beverly Hills doing a spot of gadget shopping in Sharper Image.

He must have found some contraption or other he liked, as he left with a couple of bags. As long as I don’t see the contents on front page news, I’m easy. Though considering it was raining I would have thought it would be the perfect opportunity for a singing in the rain style publicity stunt.

The deluxe 'Thriller – 25th Anniversary Edition' packaging contains a personal greeting from Michael Jackson to his fans penned exclusively for this special release.

Originally released 25 years ago early December 1982 by Epic Records, 'Thriller', Michael Jackson’s sixth solo album and second with producer Quincy Jones, rocketed the former child-star lead singer for the Jackson 5 into the stratosphere of international superstardom. Introducing the “robot” and the “moonwalk” into the international lexicon of clubland dance moves via the pulsing sounds of 'Thriller', Michael Jackson revolutionized all aspects of mainstream pop culture — from radio airwaves to the newly emerging art form of music videos — becoming the world’s most popular entertainer in the process.

The original 'Thriller' spent an astounding 80 consecutive weeks in the American Top 10, 37 of those at #1. Seven of the album’s original nine tracks became Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 while Individual singles from 'Thriller' reached #1 chart positions in the US, the UK, France, Italy, Australia, Denmark, Belgium, South Africa, Spain, Ireland, New Zealand and Canada.

'Thriller' made history as the first and only record to be America’s top-selling album two years running (1983 and 1984).

'Thriller' has been certified 27x platinum by the RIAA, giving it Double Diamond Award status in the US. In addition, the album has achieved Diamond or Multi-Platinum status in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. 'Thriller' was named the Best Selling Album of All Time by the Guinness Book of Records in 1985.

In February 1984, Michael Jackson held a record-breaking 12 Grammy nominations, going on to win eight, which stands as the record for most Grammy Awards to be won by anyone in a single year. Seven of Michael’s Grammys that year were for 'Thriller': Album of the Year; Record of the Year ('Beat It'); Best Male Pop Vocal Performance ('Thriller'); Best Engineered Recording, Non-Classical ('Thriller'); Best Male Rock Vocal Performance ('Beat It'); Best Male R&B Vocal Performance ('Billie Jean'); Best R&B Song ('Billie Jean'). (Michael’s eighth Grammy that year was in the Best Recording For Children – Single or Album, Musical or Spoken category for 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial'). That same year, Michael Jackson took home eight American Music Awards and three MTV Video Music Awards. The following year, 'The Making Of Michael Jackson’s Thriller' took home the Best Video Album trophy at the 27th Annual Grammy Awards.

Named the "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time" by the Guinness World Records, Michael Jackson is among the most highly acclaimed and influential artists in pop culture. He was named the World Music Award’s Best-Selling Pop Male Artist of the Millennium and received the American Music Award’s Artist of the Century Award. Thriller Album Cover'Thriller', The Album That Remixed Pop Culture, Turns 25. 29-11-'07

Twenty-five years ago -on Saturday, Dec. 1, 1982 - Jackson delivered 'Thriller', a terse nine-song set that threw so huge a boulder into the pop pool that it ripples to this day. It wasn't just the music: 'Thriller's' related products and performances affected video, dance and fashion on levels that had to do with everything from aesthetics to race.

To commemorate such a startling divide, The News has learned, Jackson's former record company, Sony, plans to issue a commemorative package of the classic work on Feb. 5, 2008.

The set will combine 'Thriller's' original songs with four remixes of its hits, overseen by Kanye West, will.i.am and Akon. An additional track, titled 'For All Time' - cut back in the day but left out of the initial set - will be included, along with a DVD that collects the star's most iconic video footage from the era.

Jermaine JacksonJermaine Apparently Confirms Jackson's Tour Next Year. 26-11-'07

Michael Jackson is back in the studio and rehearsing for a forthcoming tour, his brother has revealed.

Jermaine Jackson admitted that the family were planning to go on the road together. And he said the troubled singer was determined to bounce back from all the controversy he has been surrounded by.

He said: "He’s very strong, he’s in the studio now working, we’re working together and we’preplanning a tour and getting things together.

"It’s very hard because Michael’s probably the most misunderstood person on this planet earth.
"He’s the most incredible, wonderful, giving person and he’s the number one donor throughout the world in just giving money to charities and burying people who can’t afford to be buried.

"He had a big heart. This whole thing was a conspiracy. It was all contrived to sort of try to bring him down."
Jermaine Jackson was speaking on chat show Katie& Peter: Unleashed.

Frank DileoInterview With Frank Dileo, Michael's Former Manager. 21-11-'07

Nashville Scene has published a cover story on and interview with Frank Dileo, Michael's former manager. During the interview, Frank Dileo also talked about his time working with Michael.

Since the mid-90's, Dileo’s been keeping a low profile. He’s a family man—he’s been married to his wife Linda for 31 years and wanted to be near his children. Shortly there after, Dileo started to lose his eye sight. By 2004, he was blind, a result of diabetic retinopathy. But a series of four operations over the next couple of years restored much of his sight.

Meanwhile, Dileo started a management company, where he’s working with singer-songwriter Galen Griffin. And he’s about to pen a deal to start a publishing company with a successful songwriter/producer he doesn’t want to name yet.

Contrary to what you might expect, his office is a humble space in a nondescript building. But hanging on those office walls are enough gold and platinum records to make your head spin. And there is also a framed photograph of Frank Dileo and Michael Jackson to see on the Nashville site. Above Michael’s head, in Michael’s handwriting, are the words:"This water sure is cold." Above Frank’s head, he wrote, "It’s deep too."

Michael shopping in L.AMichael Shopping In LA. 16-11-'07

Michael brought trendy Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles to a standstill on Thursday (November 15) for a little clothes shopping.

The hooded pop superstar and a female friend spent 30 minutes shopping in stores Unica and Moist Wear before dashing back to a dark blue Jeep to make a hasty getaway from a small gang of fans.

Jackson, wearing a black hood, blue baseball cap, black blazer a pyjama-type trousers asked the bosses of the clothing store Moist Wear to close the shop - and lock out fans and curious passers-by who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the pop star.

One fan managed to speak with Jackson and get his autograph before the pop superstar went into lockdown.

He says, "He seemed very nervous and begged me not to tell anyone he was there. He said, `Don't tell anyone...' over and over.

"But he was very gracious and signed an autograph for me. I asked him what he was doing on Melrose and he said, `Just trying to be like you.'

"I shook his hand and I could tell that he was shaking a little. He tried to cover up his face but I could see the bandages on his nose. He looked nothing like the guy on the latest cover of Ebony magazine, where he looked good.

The unnamed fan also reveals it was only when he heard Jackson speak that he knew who he was.

He adds, "I had an inkling as I walked by him; he was just propped up by a wall outside one of the stores - he just looked like a homeless guy. But then it clicked!

"Despite his appearance, there's still something magical about the guy. He was very gracious."

As Jackson and his pal left Moist Wear with three new shirts, he was swarmed by fans who followed the pair through an alleyway to their getaway car.

And, just when Jackson felt his low-key shopping trip couldn't get any worse, his associate realized she'd picked up a parking ticket on her windshield.

Universal Express Bites The Dust! 11-11-'07

Universal Express who bought and then auctioned many hundreds of items of Jackson family memorabilia is now in receivership and subject to several court orders. CEO Richard Altomare, has also been ordered to step down by court order.

On August 31st, a court appointed receiver was ordered to take full custody and control of Universal Express and all of its subsidiaries, along with all of its money, property, and assets. To show cause, it was requested that the assets and financial state of the company and Richard Altomare be investigated and reported.

In various lawsuits against the company and its subsidiaries, they have been ordered to pay many millions of dollars in fines, and Altomare’s questionable business and personal dealings are being investigated.

The receiver has taken control of all the companies, their money, property and assets during the investigations and the Universal Express website is no longer available.

Regarding the memorabilia auction, one of the final Vegas court hearings on the matter took place Friday. This was a mandatory conference to discuss attorney fees etc: which Altomare and Universal Express were ordered to pay. Both Michael and Janet Jackson had filed lawsuits against him, and the court found Universal Express in contempt and was ordered to pay the legal fees to all parties.

To add to the problems of Richard Altomare, investigations completed in mid-October and recently reported revealed the following:

– Universal Express’ operations were supported by illegally selling $9.5 million in unregistered securities, each aspect of the company was millions in debt.

– Between January and September 1st, Richard Altomare collected about $1 million from the job, and his wife collected a fairly substantial amount herself though Altomare was unable to explain what her job was.

It was found that Altomare had used company funds to purchase highly expensive watches and jewelry for his personal collection. One such item was a $500,000 diamond, and he would then turn around and sell all of this, illegally, for cash. On October 10, U.S. Marshals seized two dozen pieces of jewelry, and Altomare remains under criminal investigation.

The_Jacksons_AuctionA replica of The Jackson family's 'Walk of Fame' star, an original piece of artwork of Michael Jackson from 1983 and a rendering of Michael Jackson as pictured on his 1979 album 'Off The Wall,' was on display at The Joint music venue inside the Hard Rock Hotel.

Part of the Receiver’s written report follows:

Michael Jackson memorabilia

The Company purchased a quantity of Michael Jackson memorabilia, some of which it auctioned off in Las Vegas on [May 31st], 2004. The purchase and auction has spawned litigation with members of the Jackson family in at least New Jersey and Las Vegas who claim at least some of these goods and also with the auction company. The Receiver has not been able to carefully evaluate that litigation at this point. However, the Receiver has been informed that the judge in Las Vegas has entered a contempt order because Universal Express failed to comply with a settlement that had been reached. The court additionally awarded fees and costs against the Company for the enforcement of the settlement agreement and contempt trial. As of July 24, one of the parties awarded fees and costs was requesting $44,431.83 in fees and costs of $1,103.15. I am not yet aware of the amount sought by the other party entitled to an award. Local counsel for the Company are owed $32,098.89.

Additionally, attorney for the Company in Las Vegas have informed the Receiver that there is a 10' by 13' storage area in Las Vegas which contains memorabilia that did not sell at the auction and for which they do not want further responsibility. The Company has failed to pay the storage fees for the past several months. The Receiver has agreed to assume the storage costs for these unsold items.

Michael JacksonJackson's Tough Dad Made Him A Perfectionist. 10-11-'07

Michael Jackson credits his father's tough love for giving him the perfectionist qualities that made him a pop great. The singer's relationship with his father Joe has been well documented over the years - but the star insists his dad knew what he was doing.

He tells Ebony magazine, "My father would rehearse (my brothers and I) with a belt in his hand. You couldn't mess up. My father was a genius when it comes to the way he taught us, staging, how to work an audience, anticipating what to do next, or never let he audience know if you are suffering, or if something's going wrong. He was amazing like that."
