Kenny Ortega Talks About Thriller Movie. 31-10-'10

Director Kenny Ortega (This Is It), who is said to be onboard to direct the planned Thriller movie, recently talked to movieweb.com about the project. Here's what he had to say about it:

"It got put out there before I've even really had a chance to think about it too much. It is still in very, very early stages of development. The [Michael Jackson] estate would have to sign off on it. I have been a part of some early creative meetings and if all goes well, I think it could happen in the next couple of years."

When asked if he was at all nervous about recreating the iconic music video for the big screen, Ortega said,

"Michael used to say to me that there is nothing to be afraid of and fear just gets in the way anyway. We were very good friends. I miss him. And I would never do anything to ruin his memory or one of his creations. But like I said, it is so early, so who knows what will materialize?"

Michael Jackson's Family Planned To Kidnap Him Before His Death. 31-10-'10

Michael Jackson’s family considered "kidnapping" the late pop star to combat his drug habit, his former bodyguard told the Brisbane Times on Friday.

Matt Fiddes, who became friends with Jackson in the late 1990s and is now a martial arts trainer in the U.K., said he discussed the plan with Jackson’s brother Jermaine.

"We talked literally about kidnapping Michael and getting him away from the doctors and the people who were around him who were supplying this stuff [prescription drugs]," he said. “We met in secret, and we were planning it because we were both concerned. We would look at Sky News sometimes and thought one day we're going to see a newsflash saying, 'Michael Jackson's dead.’”

That fear came true when Jackson died last year following an overdose of prescription drugs.

Fiddes said doctors and “enablers” gave Jackson drugs whenever he wanted them, but responsibility for taking them sat with Jackson himself.

“Michael put his arm out, that's the thing, and it baffles me to this day why he didn't scream out for help," he said.

Fiddes was in the Australian city of Brisbane, Queensland, to promote his martial arts academies.

He has hit headlines before, after claiming he donated his sperm to Jackson before the birth of the star's youngest child, Prince Michael "Blanket" Jackson II.

Fiddes could not say if he is the child's father, claiming he had not sought tests in relation to the matter.

"I donated [sperm] to Michael, and people do that for people around the world every day, but because it was Michael Jackson it was blown out of proportion," he told the newspaper.

Murray Lawyers Pushing To Get Two Syringes And An IV Bag Re-tested. 29-10-'10

Murray lawyers pushing to get two syringes and an IV bag re-tested Conrad Murray’s attorneys are pushing to get two syringes and an IV bag taken from Michael’s home after his death re-tested by the coroner’s office, RadarOnline.com has learned, claiming the evidence could go a long way in determining how Michael died.

A transcript of a Tuesday closed door meeting in Los Angeles between officials in the manslaughter case against Murray was obtained by the Associated Press on Wednesday, revealing how Murray’s lawyers said that much of the evidence – including liquid in the syringes – had dried up and eroded since Michael’s death.

Officials said Michael died, in part, from a lethal dose of Propofol, a strong anesthetic the live-in doctor was administering to him.

While the syringes and an IV bag have been tested before – revealing traces of Propofol and Lidocaine – Murray’s attorneys said that the amounts of each substance have not been scientifically determined, which could have a huge impact in a case leaning on scientific evidence.

“We are doing it because the house is on fire. We need a hose,” his attorney Ed Chernoff told Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, according to the transcript. Another Murray attorney, J. Michael Flanagan, complained to the judge that the tests are long overdue because the expert with the coroner’s office had taken a long sabbatical. ”It hasn’t been done yet… it should have been done a year ago,” Flanagan said, noting that the findings “would be very helpful information perhaps for both sides.”

Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges in connection with Michael’s death, saying through his attorneys that he didn’t give Michael anything that should have killed him. His next court appearance is slated for January 4 for a preliminary hearing to determine whether he should stand trial.

Michael Jackson Nephew To Star In LA 'Sisterella'. 29-10-'10

One of Michael Jackson's nephews will star alongside pop singer Taylor Dayne in the Los Angeles production of "Sisterella" next spring.

T.J. Jackson is a son of Michael Jackson's brother Tito. Producers say he'll play the role of Prince Jean Luc in the Larry Hart-written musical. The part originally was developed for the King of Pop.

The musical is set in turn-of-the-century New York. It tells the story of a wicked stepmother who tries to steal the fortune her late husband left to his daughter.

Dayne will play the stepmother, Dahlia. Dayne is most famous for 1980s and '90s hits including "Tell It To My Heart" and "Love Will Lead You Back."

Jerry Greenberg and Frank Dileo will produce the musical, which first debuted in Los Angeles at the Pasadena Playhouse in 1996. Michael Jackson was the executive producer.

Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' To Hit The Big Screen? 28-10-'10

According to Deadline, “This Is It” and “High School Musical” director Kenny Ortega is looking to direct a film based on Michael’s famous music video “Thriller.”

Several studios including Fox 2000, Mandate/Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are looking to pick up the project, which is being budgeted at around $50 million, but further negotiations are waiting on a deal to be completed with the Michael Jackson Estate.

The script will be written by Jeremy Garelick, and is said to follow the basic folklore of the music video “involving Vincent Price and the town he grew up in.” It’s also unclear whether the film will be a musical, though Ortega’s involvement would seem to suggest that this is indeed the case.

In addition, Ortega technically has horror roots, and as long as his pitch is right can probably convince John Landis to come on board and help out with the project.

New Book Unveils Images From The Making Of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'. 28-10-'10

A new book about Michael Jackson reveals never-before-seen images of the star behind-the-scenes of his iconic 1983 video "Thriller".

Photographer Douglas Kirkland has gathered all the snaps he took of the singer rehearsing for the horror promo and undergoing the make-up routine that transformed him from pop star to zombie.

The images all appear in "Michael Jackson: The Making of Thriller: 4 Days/1983". Remembering his time on set with Jackon - who died in 2009 - Kirkland writes, "The yellow contacts he wore were painful. So was peeling off the makeup.

But he stayed positive. His ability to write, create and perform - he was truly exceptional."

New Album Stalled, Friends And Family Fighting. 27-10-'10

It’s not easy putting out this new Michael Jackson album. In fact, it’s turned into a war among family and friends.

There are big, big problems concerning which tracks to put on an album of unreleased material that’s supposed to be in stores for Christmas. Right now, even as you read this, Sony Music is struggling with all the parties involved to finalize details and start making CDs.

The biggest issues have come because of what’s known as the “Cascio” tracks. Five of them are so good that they’ve been slated for inclusion. But there’s the rub. According to sources, co-executor John McClain has poisoned the water with Katherine Jackson regarding the Cascio family. On Monday, Mrs. Jackson apparently insisted that no tracks from the Cascio sessions be included.

Adding to the anti-Cascio field are Tito Jackson‘s sons, known as the 3 T’s. The middle T, Taryll, is said to be very bitter about the Cascios. “For years the T’s tried to get Michael to record their songs,” says an insider. “Now they’re faced with the fact that Michael recorded with the Cascios, and not them. They’re not happy.”

Adding to the trouble is that the T’s and McClain have evidently drawn Michael’s two eldest children into the fight. Prince and Paris were with their father when he stayed at the New Jersey home of close family friends Dominic and Connie Cascio from August to November, 2007. They witnessed their father working with Cascio sons Eddie and Frank, and singer Bobby Ewing.

The Ts, who are close to the children, especially Terrell, according to sources, have pressured the children to say the vocals on the tracks are not those of their father. Initially, Prince Jackson, 13, had vouched for the recordings. But recently, an email was sent to the estate’s executors from Paris, 11, claiming the voice belongs to an impostor. The only problem, sources say, is that the email was time stamped while Paris was in school.

In the end, it may not matter what the Ts, Michael’s children, or his mother, or John McClain thinks. Sony made a deal with the estate earlier this year that could be worth $200 million. They’re so keen on the Cascio tracks they even hired forensic audiologists to make sure the vocals are Michael’s and not those of an imitator. The Jackson family will likely have to accept those findings and let the estate and Sony proceed with the album.

The California Court of Appeal has ruled that Joe Jackson has no right to intervene in Michael Jackson’s estate. Joe had been fighting to have a say in how Michael’s estate is administered.

Michael Jackson Eclipses Elvis Presley In Dead Celebrities Earnings List. 26-10-'10

Michael Jackson's sudden death sparked an outpouring of grief around the world, but fans also opened their wallets to make him this year's top-earning dead celebrity with $275 million, Forbes said on Monday.

Jackson raked in more than the combined total of the other 12 celebrities on the list, Forbes magazine said. He was ranked third on last year's list with $90 million.

Elvis Presley came in second, earning $60 million from admissions to his former home, Graceland, which is now a museum and tourist attraction in Memphis, Tennessee, a Cirque de Soleil show and more than 200 licensing and merchandise deals.

"Jackson's spot atop our top earning dead celebrities list should come as no surprise given the renewed fan interest in music, videos and all things Michael Jackson," said Forbes writer Lacey Rose.

Jackson was 50 when he died in his Los Angeles home on June 25 last year, shortly before a planned series of comeback concerts in London. The singer left behind three children and a debt of $500 million.

But his estate has generated millions since his death, mostly through record sales, the "This Is It" concert movie, licensing rights, deals to release new albums and a Cirque du Soleil stage show in Las Vegas.

"Thanks to a lucrative catalog, hit film and album sales, the late king of pop earned more in the last year than Lady Gaga, Madonna and Jay-Z, combined," said Rose.

MJ Number One This Halloween Season. 26-10-'10

The King of Pop is still breaking records as this Halloween season, his iconic red "Thriller" outfit becomes the the biggest selling Halloween fancy dress costume of all time.

Online merchants are reporting a massive increase in hits on the famous red Michael Jackson outfit that wowed audiences in the ground-breaking "Thriller" video and catapulted him into the megastar we know today. The outfit was designed by Deborah Landis, wife of John Landis who directed the video.

The previous record for fancy dress Halloween costumes was held by the popular Scream outfit after the success of the 1996 horror film. Because that particular costume was offered in many price ranges it was seen skulking around on every doorstep that year. However, the “Thriller” costume is generally only available in 2 price ranges, which gives this record-breaking costume even more standing.

The online fancy dress costume merchants are just hoping they have ordered enough merchandise to satisfy the demand as sales begin to increase. It is estimated that an incredible 1,000,000 "Thriller" costumes will be sold this Halloween worldwide so, you can expect a plethora of MJ’s on your doorstep this Halloween. You can also expect to be invited to at least a couple of “Thriller” Halloween parties, as it also seems to be the favorite party theme this year!

Katherine Jackson Receiving No Money? 25-10-'10

Michael Jackson's mother Katherine is reportedly planning a memorial concert in order to raise funds to pay off her son's debts.

Michael Jackson's mother has not received any money from her late son's estate.

Katherine Jackson - who has custody of the late 'Thriller' star's three children, Prince Michael, 13, Paris, 12, and eight-year-old Prince Michael II, known as Blanket - is reportedly receiving financial support from her daughter Janet Jackson as the money left to her by the 'Billie Jean' hitmaker is currently being diverted elsewhere by those in charge of his affairs.

A source told gossip blog The Scoop: "Katherine told Oprah Winfrey that she hasn't received a penny from the estate since Michael died.

"What the lawyers for the estate have told her is that they have been busy trying to retire some of Michael's massive debt and they have maintained bills at Hayvenhurst, the Jackson family home and the kids' school."

In an apparent bid to generate funds, The Jackson Family Foundation - which lists Katherine Jackson as vice chairman and her husband Joe as chairman - are to host a tribute concert in memorial of Michael, who died of acute Propofol intoxication in June 2009, next month.

Dubbed a "money grab" by pals, the event faces criticism from the singer's siblings, with sister Rebbie and brother Randy expected to voice their objections.

A preliminary draft of a statement expected to be released by the pair says: "It has been bought to my attention that The Jackson Family Foundation is staging a 'Legacy of the Legend' concert Nov. 13 in Atlanta. That show is being billed as a tribute to my brother, Michael Jackson.

"Reportedly, I and others are scheduled to perform at this concert ... I am in no way associated with this event or the foundation and I wish to make that clear because I do not want to be party to anything that could potentially pose legal or other problems now or in the future."

Murray’s Insurance Company Does Not Want To Pay His Legal Fees. 24-10-'10

Conrad Murray’s insurance company claims it shouldn’t have to pay for legal fees, the Associated Press reported Thursday. The malpractice carrier Medicus Insurance Co. said Conrad Murray’s policy doesn’t cover fees involving general anesthesia or in cases with alleged criminal wrongdoing. The company asked a Houston court that it be excluded from liability for legal fees being charged in three states. The filing does not disclose the total amount being contested.

The company filed the lawsuit after Murray attempted to have Medicus pay for legal fees in California, according to AP. Murray is being charged with involuntary manslaughter for administering a lethal dose of the anesthetic, which allegedly killed Michael in June last year. Murray is also facing federal wrongful death charges in a lawsuit filed by Michael’s father.

Joe Jackson: Why I'm Suing Murray For $500 Mil. 23-10-'10

Joe Jackson is now revealing why he put a $500 million price tag on his wrongful death lawsuit against Dr. Conrad Murray. His theory -- "The more you go, the less you get ... so I went high."

During Joe's interview with GOOM Radio -- in which sported some severely oversized MJ bling -- he said Dr. Murray was just "the fall guy" ... and that a lot of other people were to blame for his son's death.

Joe also took issue with our story that he was following Oprah Winfrey around like a puppy dog during her sit-down interview with the Jackson family earlier this month ... but you'll have to watch the video for the lowdown.

Jackson Tearful In Final Chat With Ex-Wife Presley. 22-10-'10

Michael Jackson attempted a tearful reconciliation with his ex-wife LISA MARIE PRESLEY in 2005 and she now regrets her indifference to his need for love and help.

Presley, who was married to the King of Pop for two years in the mid-1990s, reveals Jackson reached out to her in a strange phone chat four years before his death last year (Jun09) - and it became the last time they talked.

In a candid TV chat with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in America on Thursday (21Oct10), she recalled, "It was a very long conversation and I was so removed from him and he could feel it and he could hear it... I was very distanced and he was checking to get a read. He was trying to throw a line out to see if I would bite emotionally. And I wouldn't. I was pretty shut off at that point.

"He wanted to tell me that I was right about a lot of the people around him... and he asked if I still loved him and we went into a whole thing about that, and I told him I was indifferent and he didn't like that word and he cried.

"And then the final part of the conversation was him telling me that he felt that someone was gonna try and kill him to get hold of his catalogue (of songs) and his estate, and I really didn't know what to do with that... He expressed to me his concern over his life."

Lisa Marie Presley’s interview with Oprah aired yesterday. The 42 year-old singer spoke for the first time since the death of her ex husband, Michael Jackson. Presley explained that she wanted to process the King of Pop’s death before granting an interview about it. On the day after MJ died, Presley posted a heartfelt entry on her blog explaining that she was “gutted” and defending their marriage. To Oprah, Presley repeated the claim that her marriage with Michael was a real one in every sense, and went on to say that she was very hurt by the end of their one and a half year marriage in 1996. I found her sincere and it was obvious that she was still upset about Michael’s death. He had a lot of people who cared about him and apart from his children he seems to have pushed so many people out of his life.

The Experience' Experiences A Delay. 22-10-'10

Once known as "Michael Jackson: The Game," Ubisoft switched things up to re-title their November 26 release "Michael Jackson: The Experience." Things got more interesting when the game's Move and Kinect compatibility came to light, but neither the Xbox 360 nor PlayStation 3 edition will accompany their PlayStation Portable, Wii and DS counterparts to stores next month, as they've been re-categorized as Q1 2011 products.

"We're giving our teams more time to develop the Kinect and Move versions to ensure we deliver awesome experiences that take full advantage of the new technologies," an Ubisoft representative told IGN. The Wii and portable versions of "The Experience" will still be out on time, according to the report.

The delay explains why we didn't see Ubi's Jackson project on the complete list of Kinect launch window titles. "Dance Central" and "DanceEvolution" were both on there, though, so if your motion-controlled dance game cravings are through the roof, you will have options in a few weeks.

"MJ: The Experience" specializes in teaching you how to move like Mike, however, which distinguishes it in a competitive market right now. With dance games in style for the 360 and PS3 this season, it may be smart to spend some extra time polishing as Ubisoft says their developers are doing. Then, if there's a second wind of dance game hunger after the new year, they'll be there to snatch up everyone's post-holiday spare change.

Were you looking forward to see "MJ: The Experience.

Lisa Marie Presley Feels Guilty Over Michael Jackson's Death. 21-10-'10

Lisa Marie Presley is haunted by the death of her ex-husband Michael Jackson- because she believes she could have helped him turn his life around if she had known the King of Pop was so ill. In her first in-depth interview since Jackson lost his life last summer, Presley, who was married to the pop superstar from 1994 to 1996, tells Oprah Winfrey in a TV special to air on Thursday, October 21 she feels she could have done more for the "Thriller" singer in the final months of his life.

She says, "I know that it's naive to think that I could have (saved him) but I wanted to. Had I made a call, had I stopped being so shut off from him, had I just said, 'How are you?' I really regret that I didn't."

But Presley fears that even if she had reached out to help Jackson, he would have refused her aid - and she knew the superstar was charting a course to destruction while she was married to him. She adds, "I think that was a train headed in a certain direction that I don't know if anyone could have stopped and I've had to really get my head around that in order to stop the pain."

Michael Jackson Inspired Cirque Du Soleil Shows!! 21-10-'10

In April 2001 Cirque du Soleil announced a newly formed partnership with the Estate of Michael Jackson and their plans to develop two new stage productions featuring the music of the King of Pop. Now for the first time since first announcing the shows, Cirque du Soleil’s chief Daniel Lamarre has confirmed start dates for the two new Michael Jackson shows coming to Las Vegas. The first, a rock concert arena-type show, will open December 15, 2011, with tickets going on sale November 3, 2010.

The official announcement will be made from Los Angeles on November 3, 2010 but Vegas DeLuxe is reporting that tickets will go on sale simultaneously in 25 cities for what will be the largest-ever music show going on tour in North America and around the world for four nonstop years.

The second will be a permanent residency show in Las Vegas and will arrive later in 2013. Cirque has budgeted an amazing $100 million just for creating and developing the two shows and expects that another $150 million will be added to the final costs for staging and theater construction.

The Michael Jackson concert show will be performed twice nightly for two months in a reconfigured Mandalay Bay Events Center with just 8,000 seats per show. However, Cirque and MGM have not yet decided upon a hotel home for the second Michael Jackson residency show. They will make that decision after seeing how the arena show works with all of its mind-blowing logistics.

Joe Jackson Seeking Up To $500 Million For Wrongful Death Suit. 21-10-'10

Michael's father is demanding up to $500 million (£333.3 million) in compensation in his wrongful death lawsuit against the King of Pop's personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray.

Joe Jackson launched legal action against Murray in August (10), accusing him of administering the fatal dose of anaesthetic Propofol, which led to the singer's death in June 2009.

The family patriarch alleges he was being supported by the Thriller hitmaker at the time of his passing - a claim which gives him the necessary legal standing to pursue a wrongful death suit.

And, in new documents obtained by TMZ.com, Jackson is said to be seeking damages in the region of $10 million (£6.7 million) and $500 million (£333.3 million) - an amount he claims is in "the realistic range of provable damages".

Jackson attributes 20 per cent of the compensation for loss of support, 40 per cent for emotional distress, and 40 per cent for "loss of comfort, aid, society and companionship".

However, he may struggle to win the cash from Murray - the medic insists he is penniless and can't afford to settle the case because insurance company bosses refuse to cover him.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter stemming from Jackson's death and is awaiting a preliminary hearing in January (11) to determine if he will face trial.

'Billie Jean' Sues MJ Estate Judge. 20-10-'10

A woman who claims she is Billie Jean Jackson - the wife of Michael Jackson - is suing Judge Mitchell Beckloff for discrimination, emotional distress and prejudice, in a $600 million lawsuit filed in LA Superior Court on Tuesday.

Beckloff, who is the presiding judge over Jackson's multi-million dollar estate, had previously thrown out Billie Jean’s claims that she was married to the pop star and is the birth mother of his youngest son, Blanket.

In the new lawsuit, in which Billie Jean is representing herself, she claims that Beckloff failed to provide her with the chance to prove her relationship to the child with a DNA test and that Jackson's family is keeping them apart. She also alleges that Michael Jackson's ex-wife, Lisa Marie Presley, is stalking her.

“Michael Jackson's family is adverse and will not allow mother and son to meet,” she wrote. "The loss has harmed the Plaintiff emotionally and physically and has kept her from her son and their home while other families remain free from stalkers and are afforded protection of the Courts, her stalker, Lisa Marie Presley prevails."

Guys, there really is no easy way for me to say this but I always want to tell you the truth. Good or Bad. After finally talking directly to my cousins, I found out they did in fact speak to Oprah. I don’t know if they are or will be part of the upcoming interview or not. Anyways, I’m sorry for tweeting something that I didn’t hear come directly from the horses’ mouth. That was truly my mistake. I should have known better.

In The Court Of The King Book CoverStuart Backerman Writing A Book About Michael. 19-10-'10

Stuart Backerman was Michael Jackson's official worldwide spokesman from 2002-2004, during one of the most tumultuous periods in the King of Pop's life.

'In The Court Of The King', his candid account of working with Jackson, is unlike any other Jackson book, since it is the only one that takes the reader behind the scenes during these difficult days, chronicling the crisis in Michael's life following the Martin Bashir television special and the ensuing child molestation charges—a bombshell that abruptly terminated Michael's ambitious attempt at a comeback and derailed him at the very moment when he was poised to reclaim his previous musical stature and reputation.

Backerman gives the reader Michael without his makeup in his riveting depiction of what happens when celebrity cracks up and damage-control starts. Packed with anecdotes and fascinating inside information, 'In The Court Of The King' is a unique and stylishly-written memoir, engaging and profound, a highly personal portrait of Jackson and his world that is unflinching in its honesty and disquieting in its implications.

A compelling and poignant look at one of the most tragic figures in our celebrity-obsessed culture, 'In The Court Of The King' is also Backerman's own heartfelt tribute to the late pop music superstar.

This book is never been published:
Stuart: No. I decided that I didn’t want to publish the book in respect for Michael. By the way, the book was a very positive reflection of my experiences with Michael. Some fans thought that it might be negative, but I wrote this long before he died; a couple of years before he died and I was frankly in the process of publishing the book at the time. But I decided when Michael died that I just didn’t want to get involved with looking like a blood-sucker so to speak, or taking advantage of his death.

Michael Jackson Album Of New Songs In Limbo. 19-10-'10

That album of Michael Jackson‘s unreleased material?

I’ll tell you what: it’s in limbo.

Later this week we may get a sharper picture of what’s going on. But this much I’ve surmised from talks with various sources.

The best material available really comes from those sessions with Eddie Cascio in New Jersey circa summer 2007. Some of the songs were already written by Eddie’s brother Frank Cascio and recorded as demos with a local singer named Bobby Ewing. Michael put his vocals on them during that time he stayed with the Cascios in New Jersey.

At first there was a lot of skepticism about the tracks. I’m told that co-executor John McClain questioned whether the vocals were really Michael’s, or faked. But they are Michael’s. And they will be needed to round out the selections.

Teddy Riley and a couple of other producers have worked to fix up the Cascio tracks for release.

McClain was also working on tracks. It’s unclear how these have gone. I’m told, not so well. Many of them are out takes from “Invincible,” an album that wasn’t so good in the first place. And no one’s bothered to approach Michael’s engineer, Bruce Swedien, about tracks from “Thriller” or “Bad” he might have in his archives.

There’s truly confusion now in the inner circle about how to proceed. Sony is waiting for delivery but there’s no album art or concept.

As for a cover: I am told McClain commissioned one a la “Sgt. Pepper” with a montage of drawings or caricatures of people in Michael’s life whom he admired. Funny: several lawyers were jammed in among Martin Luther King and Marvin Gaye. McClain’s picture, sources say, was larger than most of the others.

Needless to say, that’s been scrapped.
