Katherine Jackson Formally Asks Judge To Throw Out Request By Family Member To Become Guardian Of Children. 18-01-'14

Katherine JacksonKatherine Jackson has formally filed legal docs asking a judge to throw out a family member’s request to become guardian of Michael Jackson’s three children, Prince, Paris and Blanket RadarOnline is reporting.

Katherine lawyer, Sandra Ribera, filed court documents stating she will join grandson and co-guardian TJ Jackson “for an order to quash and/or dismiss the Petition for Termination of Guardianship of the person by Anthony James Jackson II.”

Anthony James Jackson II doesn’t state a reason in his legal documents regarding why the current co-guardian’s should be replaced.

Furthermore, TJ Jackson submitted docs several weeks ago stating all three children didn’t want any change regarding their co-guardians.

A hearing has been scheduled for January 28 to determine if the current guardians will be replaced.

Conrad Murray Appeals Court Rules Michael Didn't Kill Himself. 16-01-'14

A California appeals court just formally and forever shut down Conrad Murray's contention ... Michael Jackson killed himself by self-injecting that fatal dose of Propofol.

Murray had appealed his manslaughter conviction with a kitchen sink of arguments, including MJ accidentally offing himself. The California Court of Appeal has ruled ... Murray's theories are just that -- theories. The court went on to say the evidence was plentiful ... that he did the deed.

The judges noted incredulously ... Murray's fingerprints were all over the Propofol bottle and they said he acted like a guilty man when cops showed up ... by lying to them. They also zeroed in on Murray cleaning up the scene after the fact.

Even though Murray has served his sentence ... the appeal was important. If he won he could have made a credible pitch to regain his medical license.

Simon FullerSimon Fuller Nearly Managed Michael. 15-01-'14

Simon Fuller says in BBC Radio 2 documentary ‘The Fuller Picture’ that he almost became Michael’s manager.

The manager – who famously masterminded the careers of the Spice Girls and S Club 7, as well as creating ‘Pop Idol’ and ‘American Idol’ – admitted that it was “a shame” the partnership didn’t transpire.

“There was a minute there where I was going to become his manager,” Fuller says in BBC Radio 2 documentary ‘The Fuller Picture.’

“I had lots of ideas, and I think about it actually every now and again about what I was going to do with him and they were very different to anything he’d done previously and it wasn’t about touring for sure.”

He added: “I actually advised him not to do touring because I felt that he’d already been seen touring and I felt there was more to offer in a different way.

“It was quite a complicated situation and complication isn’t something I crave in life but the people around him would have made it challenging.

“If it had been just down to me working with Michael I think we’d have done something extraordinary but I thought better to just let it go, it was a shame.”

Lloyds Of LondonLloyd’s Of London Lawsuit Settled. 15-01-'14

A lawsuit over the payout of a $17.5 million policy related to Michael Jackson’s planned comeback concerts has been settled, attorneys told a judge on Wednesday.

Lawyers for Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s of London and Jackson’s estate announced the settlement before a hearing that would have altered what evidence would be presented at trial. Lawyers for the insurer and Jackson’s estate did not know how the judge was planning to rule before announcing they had resolved the case.

Lloyd’s sued Jackson’s estate in 2011 seeking to nullify a non-appearance and concert cancellation policy that it issued roughly two months before Jackson’s death in June 2009. The insurer contended that an examination of Jackson that was required for the policy was not completed and the promoter of the “This Is It” shows did not disclose everything it knew about the singer’s health when it took out the policy.

Howard Weitzman, an attorney for Jackson’s estate and Paul K. Shrieffer, who represented Lloyd’s, declined to offer details about the resolution.

The case, if it had gone to trial, would have put the focus once again on Jackson’s health in the weeks and months before he died.

A trial had been scheduled for Feb. 24.

The insurer had initially sued Jackson’s concert promoter, AEG Live LLC, but the company was later dismissed.

The case was one of several that continue to be heard in Los Angeles courts focusing on Jackson’s life and untimely death. A judge on Monday refused to order a retrial in a lawsuit filed by Jackson’s mother against AEG Live that contended it negligently hired the doctor convicted of killing her son.

The former cardiologist, Conrad Murray, also has an appeal of his involuntary manslaughter convictions pending.

The settlement of Jackson’s estate also remains pending, with claims by the singer’s former manager yet to be ruled upon.

'Blurred Lines’ Lawsuit: MJ’s Sony/ATV Publisher Settles With Marvin Gaye’s Family. 15-01-'14

Robin ThickeThe heavyweight copyright lawsuit over “Blurred Lines” isn’t over, but thanks to a settlement among some of the parties, the case will no longer put one music giant in an uncomfortable position.

Robin Thicke was the first to bring litigation and sought declaratory relief that his mega-hit song wasn’t an improper copy of Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up.”

In response, Gaye’s children not only brought counterclaims against Thicke and his producers but also targeted EMI April, owned by Sony/ATV, for allegedly breaching its obligations to protect the Gaye catalog. According to the Gaye family’s court papers, EMI also administered rights on “Blurred Lines” and didn’t want Gaye’s family getting in the way of the song’s ongoing success. The chairman of EMI is even said to have contacted Gaye’s legal representative with warnings about making a frivolous claim.

Put in the crossfire, Sony/ATV responded that the family’s move to rescind their contractual relationship had been “ill-advised.” Now comes a settlement agreement between Gaye’s family and the music publisher. Terms haven’t been made public.

The agreement means that Sony/ATV won’t have to defend its impartiality in administering copyrights to both Thicke’s work and Gaye’s. It will also release the company from having to address what was said to have been a conflict inherent in owning 30 percent of the music publishing market.

However, it won’t completely finish the involvement of Sony/ATV in the lingering dispute between Thicke and Gaye’s children. As discovery is pursued, and as the case pushes its way to a potential trial, Thicke’s camp will likely want a jury to hear exactly why Sony concluded the songs were not substantially similar.

Katherine JacksonKatherine Jackson Pursuing Appeal In Case Against AEG. 15-01-'14

Despite being denied a new trial against AEG Live, Michael Jackson’s mother and children will continue to pursue their case against the entertainment powerhouse, which they say was negligent in the pop star’s death, their attorney said Tuesday.

“There are several issues we intend to have the appellate court address related to the verdict form and the law that the jury was instructed on,” Brian Panish said.

Panish said he was not surprised by the ruling handed down Monday that rejected his clients’ request for a new trial. L.A. County Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos had issued a tentative ruling more than a week earlier before listening to arguments from both sides.

Katherine Jackson and her three grandchildren — Paris, Prince and Blanket — have 30 days to file an appeal.

The family claims AEG, the promoter and producer of Jackson’s ill-fated “This Is It” comeback tour, negligently hired and supervised Conrad Murray, the doctor who gave the singer a fatal dose of propofol in 2009.

During the five-month trial, witnesses for the plaintiffs depicted AEG executives as ruthless bullies whose greed took precedence over Jackson’s declining health. [...]

In October, a jury of six men and six women decided AEG was not responsible for Jackson’s death. Jurors agreed that the company had hired Murray but rejected the second question on the verdict form that asked whether the doctor was unfit or incompetent, which they said forced them to end deliberations.

Jurors had been asked to award $85 million to each of the pop star’s children and an additional $35 million to his mother. Lawyers also suggested AEG be asked to pay as much as $1.5 billion in economic losses.

No money was awarded and the family filed a motion for a new trial in December.

“Some of the jurors were stunned and upset after learning that we had to stop deliberations after answering ‘no’ to Question 2,” wrote one juror in a declaration filed with the motion.

Another wrote, “I believed that Mrs. Jackson had proven her case against AEG Live. Despite this fact, I had no way of voting in favor of the plaintiffs because of the way the verdict form was worded.”

An attorney for AEG called the motion “an act of pure desperation.”

AEG TrailNew Trial In Michael Jackson Wrongful-Death Suit Rejected. 14-01-'14

The judge who presided over the Michael Jackson wrongful-death trial last year issued a final rejection of the Jacksons' request for a new trial on Monday.

The six-month-long trial ended in October with a victory for AEG Live, the concert promoter Jackson's mother and children had claimed was liable for his death because it hired, retained or supervised the doctor convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death.

Lawyers for mother Katherine Jackson argued that the verdict form used by the jury was faulty and that the judge erred by refusing to let them pursue a negligence claim independent of the hiring case.

Their motion for a new trial filed in December included sworn statements from four of the 12 jurors saying they feel cheated by the outcome, which they blame on a misleading verdict form.

Jackson died from an overdose of the surgical anesthetic propofol on June 25, 2009, which Dr. Conrad Murray told police he used to treat the pop icon's insomnia as he prepared for a tour produced by AEG Live.

Los Angeles County Judge Yvette Palazuelos issued a tentative ruling earlier in January saying she did not err in her decisions on the verdict form or with the dismissal of the negligence claim.

She heard oral arguments on January 3 and filed her final decision denying the request on Monday.

Jackson lawyers have indicated they will appeal the jury's verdict.

AEG Live lawyers filed statements from seven other jurors saying they were not confused by the verdict form.

The jurors cited by the Jackson motion used the words "stunned," "upset" and "shocked" when they were told they had to stop deliberations after a majority agreed the answer was "no" to the second question on the verdict form: "Was Dr. Conrad Murray unfit or incompetent to perform the work for which he was hired?"

One juror called the question "a trap that prevented us from deliberating on the real issues of the case."

"After sitting through almost six months of the trial in this case, I believed that Mrs. Jackson had proven her case against AEG LIve," another juror said. "Despite this fact, I had no way of voting in favor of the plaintiffs because of the way that the verdict form was worded."

Jackson lawyers, in their arguments for a new trial, contended that Palazuelos erred by denying their request to add the words "at any time" to the second question.

You Can Own A Drop-Top Ferrari Testarossa Driven By Michael Jackson. 11-01-'14

In 1987, Michael Jackson and the Ferrari Testarossa were at the tops of their respective games. What if you could own a Testarossa driven by the King of Pop himself? Your life would become an unparalleled fantasy of 1980s awesomeness, that’s what.

The good news is that now, you can own a Testarossa famously associated with Michael Jackson. Up for grabs at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale later this month is this 1986 Testarossa, which was famously seen in a Bad-era Michael Jackson commercial for Pepsi.

It’s not an official Testarossa Spider — Ferrari only made one of those — but it is a custom job done up by a company in California for the video shoot. It looks pretty good, and Barrett-Jackson says an $18,000 service job was just done on its mighty flat-12 engine.

Ferrari Testarossa Spider (1986)

No word yet on how much this bad machine might fetch at auction, but it’s probably going to do pretty well for itself. Anyone out there want to use the King of Pop’s droptop Ferrari as their paparazzi getaway machine?

I’m confused. This car was supposedly auctioned off a few months ago for $80,ooo on Ebay. Did the deal fall through?

Lady GagaLady Gaga To Open Michael Jackson Museum? 09-01-'14

According to the Mirror, the 'Born This Way' hit maker is said to have scooped up an estimated £1.25m worth of the late star's belongings - which include an eight-page medical report of a freak hair fire accident during the filming of a 1984 Pepsi commercial.

Gaga is also said to own the King of Pop's iconic leather jacket worn by Jackson in his 14-minute 'Thriller' music video, along with the infamous white Swarovski-encrusted glove (which cost her £117,800), plus 55 separate pieces of memorabilia she bought at auctions last year.

However, in order to open the museum, Gaga would need to seek permission from Jackson's estate who own the rights to his music and image. The pop sensation might also face resistance from Jackson's surviving children, who she'd also need consent from, too.

Speaking about her decision, Gaga - whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta - said: "I will put together a museum and put the money to a foundation he cares about", reports the Mirror.

"The reason I bought Michael's clothes was because my tour clothes mean more to me than anything, my awards, records. I believe they carry the energy and memories of the night.

"With Michael's clothes being sold when he was not here made me feel really uncomfortable, upset and I don't why. I take care of them - they are in the right temperature and are preserved. I have spent millions."

The singer's respect for the 'Beat It' music idol has been well documented. Speaking to the Rolling Stones magazine a year after Jackson's untimely death, she said: "Michael [Jackson] got burned, and he lifted that glittered glove so damn high so his fans could see him, because he was in the art of show business. That's what we do."

Aaron Paul Talks About The LIfe Tips Michael Jackson Gave Him In February Issue Of Details Magazine. 08-01-'14

Details MagazineAaron Paul received life advice from Michael Jackson.

The Breaking Bad star met the King of Pop before he became famous, when he once ended up at a party thrown by Prince Azim of Brunei six years ago.

After enjoying the day with the royals, Aaron found himself sitting next to the legendary singer.

“He’s sitting on the couch [Prince Azim] with Michael Jackson, and me and [Michael] end up having this hour long heart-to-heart about family and upbringings, and I remember, he just put his arm around my shoulder and said, ‘You know, if you’ve had a rough childhood or not, it’s all about forgiveness. Once you realize that, it’s fine. Everything’s fine.’

“And I’m like, ‘Michael, you are absolutely right.’ And then I go, ‘Do you want to do a shot?’ And he goes, ‘Sure!’ And I was like, ‘OK, Michael, let’s do this,’” Aaron recalled to the February issue of Details magazine.

Since Aaron shot to stardom as Jesse Pinkman in the award-winning TV series about crystal meth, he’s found landing movie roles has become much easier.

It has also allowed him to be choosy with the films he goes for.

“[I want] to do special projects. I would rather not work than work on just OK stuff. The things that really excite me are the things that make you feel. I gravitate toward edgy, intense, dark films that just grab you by the throat,” he explained.

His latest movie Need for Speed co-stars Dakota Johnson and Dominic Cooper, and gave Aaron the chance to try something new.

“Running around, driving like a maniac in really expensive, fast cars? Why not? After six long, intense years on Breaking Bad, this was perfect,” he said.

But Breaking Bad is never far from his thoughts, and the 34-year-actor is keen to be a part of the planned prequel Better Call Saul.

Aaron won two Emmy awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in the show that ran from 2008 to 2013.

“Both Bryan [Cranston, co-star] and I want to be a part of that. If they’ll have us,” he declared.

Disney Infinity Executive Producer Wants Michael Jackson’s 'Captain EO' In The Game. 08-01-'14

Captain EODisney Infinity executive producer John Vignocchi shared an intriguing tweet earlier this evening that reveals a character he desperately wants to see in the popular “toys to life” Disney Interactive video game in the future. That figure is none other than Captain EO as portrayed by Michael Jackson, and Vignocchi has some strong words regarding his love for the character.

I took my first family trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida as an adult this past fall and of course took my kids to see Captain EO at Epcot. Their dad was far more into the trip down nostalgia lane than the were. In fact, they were more interested in trying something else out rather than a return trip into director Francis Ford Coppola’s trippy outer space realm. I openly admit that while watching Captain EO, the thought of a Disney Infinity figure based on the Michael Jackson hero character crossed my mind.

Like Michael Jackson, Captain EO is best remembered as a product of the 1980s, and the children of that time — myself included — are the ones buying Disney Infinity figures for their children. Today’s kids may be all into Anna, Elsa, Lightning McQueen, Sully and the other more recent Disney characters, but I’ve seen more than one adult enthusiastically grab a Jack Skellington for their kids because those are the characters they relate to from their childhood and want to share them with their kids.

I’d love to see Vignocchi follow through on this social media proclamation, and also take note of this awesome fan-art for a Disney Infinity Indiana Jones figure and make that become a plastic reality as well.

Our best bet for a wild foray outside the current Disney Infinity character set that adheres closely to Pixar and modern Disney animation is the upcoming LucasFilm Star Wars Rebels television series that premieres on Disney XD this fall. It offers the perfect opportunity to introduce Star Wars to Disney Infinity and cross-promote the show with the sequel game that is expected to be announced at either Toy Fair in February or shortly thereafter.

Sky FerreiraSky Ferreira’s Memories Of Michael. 07-01-'14

Singer Sky Ferreira grew up as a close family friend of Michael’s when her grandmother worked as his hair stylist. She speaks here of her memories.

The 21 year old has revealed she was close to Michael when she was a youngster, and often spent time with him and his three children.

Sky reveals she sometimes sang to him and even celebrated birthdays at his home, telling Britain’s The Guardian,

“She (my grandmother) went everywhere with him, so I was always around him and his kids. I had birthdays there, I sang gospel music for him – he was kind of my mentor, so he influenced me, but more as a friend than as Michael Jackson, the pop star.”

She goes on to admit she was devastated by Michael’s death in 2009, adding,

“Everything just kinda stopped, it was the first death I’d ever experienced. But sometimes something will remind me of him and I feel a lot better.”
