Another Message From MJ Estate: Forbes Article Regarding Neverland Sale. 31-07-'14

Neverland RanchLast night, we sent you a message from the Estate regarding Colony Capital’s decision to sell Neverland. Many of you have inquired about the Estate purchasing Neverland. As you know, the Estate does not disclose the details of its business dealings but last night’s statement to the fans (not included in the comment to press) states “the Estate did explore a number of potential options for Neverland with Colony” but for the reasons stated none of those options were feasible. This sentence was included specifically for your benefit to let you know that the Estate tried to find a way to keep the sale from happening but for a variety of reasons, it was not possible.

Zack O’Malley Greenburg broke the news in Forbes shortly after we sent you the Estate’s statement:

He offers some further insight you might find helpful in understanding the situation.

Like you, the Estate is sad and disappointed by Colony’s decision. Michael’s legacy is in his music, in his humanitarian efforts, and in his spirit. The Estate hopes that whomever the new owners may turn out to be, that they will continue to appreciate the property not only for its beauty but for its historical and cultural legacy as well.

Michael Jackson’s Phone Number. 31-07-'14

When this was written down in the 1980s, anyone would have given their right arm to have had a copy!

Up for auction is Sammy Davis Jr.’s personal address book from the 1980′s. It reads like a time capsule of Hollywood and a who’s who of the famous. Names of stars include Muhammad Ali, Liz Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Dean Martin, Clint Eastwood, Ella Fitzgerald, Richard Pryor and Gene Kelly to name but a few.

But there’s one name that stands out from even this elite crowd, and that is Michael Jackson’s. The spiral-bound notebook is filled out in Davis’ own hand and shows many signs of use.

Michael’s number is shown clearly at the bottom left of the above image. His number was (213) 907 5130, with an alternative 1371 to replace 5130, presumably a second line.

Can you imagine having that number in the 1980s!

Statement From The Estate Regarding Neverland!!! 30-07-'14

You will soon be reading news reports stating that Colony Capital has decided to sell Neverland. As the property manager, they have the right to do this. The Estate has issued the following statement in response to a media request for comment:

We are saddened at the prospect of the sale of Neverland which, under the agreement negotiated during Michael’s lifetime, Colony has the right to sell. The Estate will maintain Michael’s family home in Encino, including its iconic recording studio there. We continue to build upon Michael’s legacy as an artistic genius and humanitarian through his music and new projects such as the Michael Jackson ONE show in Las Vegas. We hope and trust that any new owners of Neverland will respect the historical importance and special nature of this wonderful property. Michael’s memory lives on in the hearts of his fans worldwide.

It is also important to the Estate that Michael’s fans understand that although the Estate has no right to stop or obstruct the sale, The Estate did explore a number of potential options for Neverland with Colony but zoning, financial and land use restrictions limited the alternatives and ultimately Colony made the decision to sell.

Edward Bass Announced Documentary On The Michael Jackson Estate In Legal Battle. 29-07-'14

Edward BassEdward Bass is in a legal battle with the Michael Jackson Estate over The Last Photo Shoot documentary. Now he has announced to release an investigative documentary called Follow the Money, with new footage on the handling of the Michael Jackson Estate.

This new development in the legal battle between the producers of Michael Jackson: The Last Photo Shoot were revealed Saturday in an article on Page Six of The New York Post. The article states, “The executors in charge of the Michael Jackson estate will be investigated in a documentary, FOLLOW THE MONEY, which is being produced by Edward Bass, who is already in a legal battle with them.”

According to The Post’s Page Six Journalist Richard Johnson, the documentary, “Follow the Money,” will focus on the Michael Jackson Estate attorneys John Branca and John McClain, who — in the five years since Michael’s death — have collected far more than the nearly $20 million that has gone to Michael Jackson’s mother, Katherine, and his three children. He reveals that the estate has also spent $17 million on legal fees.

The article continues and quotes Bass as saying, “They don’t mind spending millions of dollars on litigation, because they are paying themselves,” Bass said. “Somebody has to challenge them. We want to set a precedent here.”

The Page Six article goes on to say that the footage was shown and offered to the estate, They quote Bass, “After 18 months of negotiations, they turned it down. If you owned it, why would you negotiate to buy it?”

Page Six also quotes Estate lawyer Howard Weitzman, who claims the estate owns the footage, which includes “private moments that Michael Jackson never agreed could be publicly and commercially exploited.”

Bass says, “I think their intention was just to harass us and delay us from releasing it for the 5th anniversary of Michael’s death, as we obviously own the rights. It’s really a shame because when you see the film, you realize how heartbroken Michael would be if this were not released to the public.”

Joseph Jackson Reflects On Michael And His Family To Celebrate His 86th Birthday. 28-07-'14

Joseph Jackson has celebrated his 86th birthday in Spain on the 26th of July. In the 10 days before he reflected on each member of his immediate family. „I will candidly reflect individually on each one of them for each of the next 10 days, sharing my private memories, fun moments that stand out the most in my mind.”

Here’s what Joseph had to share about his son Michael Jackson:

Michael: “Michael was like this. He was the type of kid who loved kids. I remember, .. a long time ago, when I used to give him his allowance after the shows. He would use it all up to buy a lot of candy. He would get the children in the neighbourhood to sit down with him in a circle, and he would keep feeding them candy, laughing and having the time of his life. I would look at him and it was beyond me, how in the world he got the most pleasure watching other kids eat candy.

Another thing, he was so fast. That boy was quick. Once we had a very mean dog in the yard, a black doberman. This dog was so mean and fierce, we called him by a dictator’s name (I can’t mention the name). Now every Sunday, Michael would practise his dancing for about 2 to 3 hours. He had just got done doing his routine and was out walking with Randy his little brother. They did not notice that the dog had got out of the yard and it came chasing after them. Michael was so fast, dashing out of the dog’s way in the split of a second and jumping on top of the car. The dog did however get Randy, biting Randy on his back leg. I rushed after the dog and was able to set Randy free. It was very dangerous because Randy might never have been able to walk again, had the dog continued its bite. Years have gone by and I can still see it all happening like a movie. How Michael was able to outrun the dog that fast, and still have the presence of mind to Jump is beyond me.

What else … Let me see, He was also a master at imitation. He could see something once, and would be able to imitate it. The songs he did, he did at home, so when he went into the studio, he knew exactly what he wanted. Somehow he knew how to think ahead.

Michael and Joe

He did save my life once. During the early days, there was this gang who would come to shows without paying and take our instruments which we had paid dearly for with the little money we had. My boys and I were getting ready to do a show, when this group showed up. I was not having it anymore this time and I stood up to fight them by myself. I was putting up a fight, when one of them knocked me in the back of my head with a microphone, knocking me out cold. As I lay unconscious, bleeding, little did I know, but Michael had run into the street to pay phone. He called out to people walking by if they could carry him, as he was unable to reach the phone because of his height. They did lift him up, and he called 9-1-1.

After the ambulance got to the show and worked on me, I was barely able to get up. I remember Michael and the boys looking at me with their youthful eyes, full of confusion as if asking “What do we do know?”. I looked straight at them and without any hesitation said “You go on stage and do the show, like nothing has happened. The show must always go on!” Michael internalized that lesson and over the years, even in pain, stress, sadness, he would never let the public see it. He was a professional till the end. In my eyes “The Greatest Entertainer that ever lived”.

TimbalandTimbaland Talks MJ Album. 28-07-'14

Timbaland has recalled the challenge of putting together Michael Jackson's second posthumous album, 'Xscape'.

Timbaland found producing Michael Jackson's latest album "stressful and emotional".

The music star helped piece together the late King of Pop's second posthumous record 'Xscape', which features eight previously unreleased tracks. It marks the 11th album to come from Sony and Motown since Michael's death in 2009 due to acute Propofol intoxication.

Looking back at the period leading up to 'Xscape's' release earlier this year, Timbaland admits it brought up other sad memories while hearing the singer's recognisable voice. One of these was the passing of his friend, songstress Aaliyah, who was involved in a tragic plane accident in 2001 at the age of 22.

"That whole experience [with the album] was stressful. For one, it's emotional, because I'm dealing with death. I had to ask myself, have I dealt with Aaliyah's death, and my other best friend Static's death?" Timbaland told MTV UK. "There's something very emotional when you hear Michael Jackson's voice, but you don't see him; that's kinda scary. It's Michael Jackson for God's sake, why wouldn't it be stressful? It's his last album. It all worked out for the good. It's a great album."

Alongside producing albums, Timbaland, real name Timothy Zachery Mosley, has several record labels under his belt. As he focuses on the future, the 42-year-old has promised some big up-and-coming talent.

"You'll see, in 2015, I've got mostly girls that are signed to me. The first two are very special. I probably haven't seen this kind of special since Lady Gaga. Or Rihanna. They're the only two in the last ten or 12 years who are special. It's not about being good or great, it's about being special," he added.

"It's very exciting. It's keeping me young, it's keeping me fresh, it's keeping me invigorated. Everyone I have around me is the future. They're kids. 21, 22, 23. Everybody's young. I might be the oldest one here! I feel like I'm in that movie Divergent, because the new generation is about to happen, and I'm just the father."

Cirque Du Soleil Michael Jackson Immortal Tour Family. 26-07-'14

Cirque Du Soleil Michael Jackson Immortal has been traveling around the world for three years. It has covered four continents, twenty-seven countries, over 150 cities and will reach 460 shows while in Lafayette on July 29th and 30th. This amount of travel would take a toll on anyone, especially the crew members of the Michael Jackson Immortal tour. Many of them have been on the tour since day one, which was three years ago.

"You miss important events that you would normally be at: holidays, anniversaries, family events. It is hard to do something like this," Publicist, Laura Silverman told KATC, "but it has brought all of the members of the crew together as a family. We do almost everything together."

The crew consist of 130 members that includes everything from, wardrobe, performers and production. Dancer, Melena Rounis, said "We are #ImmortalFamily. I have never worked with such a talented group of performers that vibe so well together."

The cast and crew of the show consider themselves all to be an impromptu out of the ordinary family and as they are traveling on the last leg of the Immortal tour they look back on all the fond memories they have accumulated over the years. "We have traveled to Asia, America, Europe and South America, with the same smiles on our face that we had on day one," Vincent Da Planche, a free run acrobat, said.

On this final leg the tour goes to Oklahoma City, Dallas, Lafayette, Cedar Park, Houston, Mexico City and Guadalajara.

Paris JacksonMichael Jackson's Daughter Paris Returns To Family. 26-07-'14

Michael Jackson's daughter Paris is reuniting with her family in Los Angeles, according to TMZ.

The 16-year-old has spent most of the past year living at a Utah boarding school, getting treatment after trying to take her own life. She was seen in Calabasas on Wednesday night hanging out with friends and a guy who suspiciously looked like he might be a date or boyfriend, if photos on the website are to be believed. Her guardian and cousin T.J. Jackson followed closely behind.

Sources connected to the Jacksons told TMZ that the doctors who have treated her since she tried to commit suicide now say she needs a family support system, after becoming completely estranged from her family.

Those doctors know who her family is ... right?

Sources told the website doctors were concerned the girl's only meaningful relationship has been with her biological, non-custodial mother Debbie Rowe. They want her to re-establish contact with grandmother Katherine, her siblings and the rest of her family to continue her healing.

Michael Jackson’s Estate Is Suing A Movie Memorabilia Store! 25-07-'14

Michael Jackson‘s Estate is suing a movie memorabilia store for auctioning off historic photos from MJ’s heyday — and duping potential buyers with a get-rich-quick scheme.

The pics are from the Jackson brothers’ 1984 Victory Tour. According to court docs — obtained by TMZ — Michael hired a photograph to shoot the concerts … and Jackson’s company owned all the rights to the pictures.

The Estate claims Premiere Props put the photos up for auction, and misled buyers into believing they would also own copyright on the pics — a huge selling point, because the buyer could make a fortune by reprinting and selling the pics.

Premiere valued the pics from $200 to over $2K, according to its website.

MJ’s camp is now suing for all the auction profits … and to stop Premiere from selling any more MJ memorabilia.

Cirque Du Soleil's The Immortal Michael Jackson Tribute Lands In Dallas. 24-07-'14

The Immortal World TourStarting Friday the Quebecois carnival group Cirque Du Soleil takes over the American Airlines Center with their tribute to the life and music of Michael Jackson with The Immortal tour.

The Texas leg of the tour is the last in the U.S. for the company, as they will cap off the 3 year long world tour in Mexico in August. Currently the tour is stopped up in Oklahoma City, where spokesperson Laura Silverman called us from to answer a few questions about the show.

DC9 at Night: How far does the music span? Are we getting any Jackson 5 songs?

Silverman: They did a really good job of covering pretty much all the decades of his life, from the Jackson 5 up until his passing. You get a great glimpse at everything he did from the '70s, to the '80s, the '90s and his final work in the 2000s.

How many people does it take to pull something like this off?

We have 49 performing artists, 130 on the crew, and we load into 30 trucks. So we have 30 drivers as well, all coming together to make this happen.

How many people involved with the show actually worked with Michael?

We have 4 of his band members performing. Jonathan "Sugarfoot" Moffett was Michael's drummer for 34 years. Our percussionist was a part of the "This Is It" rehearsals. Don Boyette, our band leader, and our guitar player, Jon Clark, were on the "Bad" tour. We also work with many of the choreographers from his tours, along with most of the technicians from those tours.

You're swinging through Texas and then into Mexico. Is this show highly anticipated internationally?

We've already been all over the world. When we premiered the show in 2011 we did North America, and then Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand [and] Dubai. Now back to North America, and we'll finish in Mexico after a three-year tour.

Elvis, the Beatles, now MJ. Is there anyone else from the music world that could possibly hit the Cirque benchmark?

Those three are the top of the top of their genre, and all three changed their genre, and really music, and culture. There are no set plans now, but who knows down the road?

So maybe we'll get a Prince, or Rolling Stones show?

You never know.

Really, though, what sets this show apart from the things you can catch in like Vegas, or other Michael Jackson tributes?

It's the only official show out there celebrating Michael and his music. Everything is as close as you can get. We cooperated fully with his family. We used his actual vocals, his videos and his crew. We recently became the ninth-highest grossing music tour of all time, and that's a pretty special thing to accomplish.

Cirque de Soleil's Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour opens at the American Airlines Center on Friday, July 25. Tickets start at $66.

MJ in Gary Indiana (11-06-2003)Michael Jackson's Hometown To Name School For Him. 23-07-'14

Plans are in the works to name a school after Michael Jackson in the late pop star's Indiana hometown.

The Gary Community School Board approved Tuesday a memorandum of understanding with Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson. The agreement that Jackson signed last month says the district "seeks to honor Michael Jackson and to inspire children to excel in the arts and education."

District superintendent Cheryl Pruitt said she's working with the Jackson family on which school to rename.

"A close relationship with the Jackson family to improve the quality of programs for the Gary Community School Corp. can mean tremendous gains for the school district and the city as a whole," she told the Post-Tribune (http://bit.ly/1luhGfp).

Michael Jackson spent the first 11 years of his life in Gary. His family moved to California after the Jackson 5 struck it big in 1969 with the release of their first album. Jackson, who died in 2009, last returned to Gary in 2003 and received an honorary diploma from Roosevelt High School near his childhood home.

Pruitt said renaming the school came up in a conversation with Katherine Jackson, who donated $10,000 during the Gary Promise scholarship event hosted by former NBA star Magic Johnson in April.

"She's always wanted something left here," Pruitt said.

The district has long struggled with high poverty levels, and the school board voted in June to close six of its 17 schools because of a $27 million deficit blamed in part on declining enrollment and the state's property tax caps.
