Exhibition Brings Dozens Of Michael Jackson Sculptures To Tacaruna. 30-03-'16

A shopping Center in Tacaruna in Brazil will hold a Michael Jackson sculpture exhibition until April 13. The exhibition named “Step by Step: Tribute to the King of Pop is set of 40 pieces in cold porcelain created by artist and fan of the singer Selmo Wander.

The sculptures depict with great realism the singer throughout his career reproducing some of the pop singer’s iconic moments. This includes a life size Michael Jackson which is the main attraction.

Selmo is an avid Michael Jackson fan and after the passing of his idol, he started to create those sculptures and for the first time being exhibited publicly.

Graphic designer and artist Selmo Wander , responsible for the works , says that everything is a hobby. The artist takes his first exposure to other Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro as well. “My project is to make a tour of Brazil showing this work,” he points out.

“When he died, it was very difficult for me and at first I decided to do a piece as a tribute and eventually wanted to expose them.”

Selmo Wander

The work depicting the singer in real size was the most time consuming to carve: six months were needed to finish it. In the case of miniatures, the most difficult to fabricate was the golden and silver clothes worn by Michael in the HIStory tour.

Interest in buying the parts from the fans also increases, but Selmo said that if someone wants to order some copies they should contact him through his personal Facebook profile!

So if you are in Brazil, don’t forget to pop in the shopping Center!

Judge Allows Michael Jackson's Ex-Manager To Amend Complaint Against Estate. 29-03-'16

Tohme Tohme
Michael Jackson's Ex-Manager Tohme Tohme.

Michael Jackson's estate and his former manager Tohme Tohme will see another day in court, after a judge granted the estate's motion to strike in its entirety but gave Tohme's attorneys 10 days to amend their complaint.

The motion to strike centers on attorneys fees, which Tohme argues he's entitled to under an indemnity agreement with Jackson. The estate holds that clause only applies to Tohme defending against or investigating third-party claims relating to powers of attorney.

"Tohme cannot possibly use the Indemnity Agreement to recover attorneys' fees in a dispute with Jackson or his heirs or executors wherein Tohme seeks compensation for services he allegedly rendered to Jackson," writes Howard Weitzman in the motion.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mitchell L. Beckloff largely agreed with the estate and granted the motion to strike, but denied a demurrer on the issue.

The legal battle began in 2012 with dueling lawsuits debating whether Tohme's work in the final years of Jackson's life was for the pop icon's benefit or his own.

Tohme contends he is entitled to 15 percent of Jackson’s gross receipts, including money the estate earned after the performer’s death, and also a 10 percent finder’s fee for a loan buyout connected to Neverland Ranch.

Jackson’s estate paints Tohme as inexperienced and self-serving and claims Jackson fired him months before his death.

Proceedings were put on hold while the California Labor Commission investigated claims that Tohme was acting as an agent, not a manager, in violation of the Talent Agencies Act.

In February 2015, Beckloff partially lifted the stay and put the proceedings concerning Neverland Ranch back in motion.

In July the Labor Commission found the management agreement between Jackson and Tohme is partially illegal and severance of the illegal portion of the agreement would cut Tohme’s commissions in half.

Trial is scheduled to begin May 3.

The Estate Of Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson named attorney John Branca (family friend) and music executive John McClain as the executors of his estate.

Michael Jackson Estate Sued Over Legal Fees. 23-03-'16

In the years since Michael Jackson's death, the pop icon's estate has been repeatedly pummeled with lawsuits ranging from a royalty row with Quincy Jones to a profit suit from the director of 'Thriller.'

The latest comes from a London-based law firm that claims it is owed more than $200,000 in fees for work it did for the music icon in the two years leading up to his death.

Atkins Thomson Solicitors is suing prominent entertainment attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain, executors of Jackson's estate, for breach of contract in a state claim filed Monday in California.

“Defendants have failed to honor Jackson’s obligations under, and has materially breached, the agreement with Atkins, and any implied covenants therein, by failing to make the payments as required,” writes Atkins’ attorney Stanton L. Stein in the complaint.

Atkins claims it provided legal and other services to Jackson from 2007 through 2009, and in the months leading up to his death Jackson’s business in the U.K. ramped up and the firm “provided hundreds of hours of services to Jackson across nearly a dozen matters.”

In November 2009, the firm filed a creditors claim for $204,204.36 and claims defendants refused to pay, finally rejecting the invoice in writing in December 2015.

“The Estate doesn't believe the attorney’s claim for work allegedly done for Michael Jackson is valid and we intend to contest this lawsuit,” says Howard Weitzman, attorney for the estate, in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

Atkins wants the amount invoiced plus interest and the costs of the lawsuit.

Will.I.Am Has Hard Drive Full Of Unreleased Michael Jackson Tracks. 23-03-'16

Will.i.amWill.i.am has a treasure trove of unreleased tracks by pop superstar Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, and Britney Spears.

The Black Eyed Peas rapper/producer reveals his laptop has folders full of unfinished demos and collaborations with singers past and present, the majority of which have never seen the light of day.

However, will.i.am is willing to give one lucky contestant on the British version of The Voice, on which he is a coach, the rare opportunity to sift through his work over the years and pick out tunes they would want to record for their debut album, reports DigitalSpy.com.

"I got a hard drive full of songs that just sit there and we could go through them," he said. "There's Nicole Scherzinger folders, there's Britney folders, there's Rihanna folders, Beyoncé folders - just songs.

"When I work with artists, we record songs and write songs, and to get one song you have to record seven. So those other six are actually really good. Maybe there's two of them that are good, maybe there's one lingering one that just needs some touching up. So you just go through the hard drive."

The hip-hop star goes on to boast about being the producer superstars turn to when they are seeking to switch up their sound.

"There's Michael Jackson folders, there's Whitney Houston folders, there's a Mariah Carey folder," will.i.am continued. "Because... I'm like, the person they call. 'We want something different, we're looking for something different, we need an international song.' So they always call... So yeah. They're just going to sit there on my hard drive. Somebody has to go through them."

Will.i.am has been a coach on The Voice U.K. since its launch in 2012, and he currently sits on season five's panel of mentors alongside British singers Paloma Faith, Boy George and Ricky Wilson.

Michael Jackson’s Children ‘Face Bills That Could Wipe Out Their £900 Million Inheritance’. 22-03-'16

Michael Jackson’s children’s £900 million inheritance could be drastically slashed.

Big bills mean that Prince, 19, Paris, 17, and Blanket, 14, could see the money and their trust funds, which they reportedly have access to at 30, wiped out.

Insiders have reportedly claimed tax authorities in America are chasing the late singer’s estate for £555 million, while the late singer is believed to owe more than £300 million in other debts.

“On paper the kids are billionaires thanks to these massive sums. But the truth is those sums will barely be in their accounts for any time as they have this huge tax bill to settle," a source told The Sun.

“The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) had been public about their demand asking for as much as £555 million, with more charges coming for late payments."

The singer's stake in Sony/ATV Music Publishing was recently sold for $750m (£526m), after he originally paid $41.5 for the rights.

It's thought the tax on the deal will total roughly £70 million.

The source added: “The estate has challenged that enormous figure, but the Sony deal simply ups the amount they owe.”

Prince, 19, Paris, 17, and Blanket, 14, could see the money and their trust funds, which they reportedly have access to at 30, wiped out.

Meanwhile, Michael's former Neverland Ranch is still failing to spark any concrete interest after going on sale.

The huge property and grounds went on the market in 2015 but so far hasn't managed to tempt buyers with its $100m price tag.

Michael bought the property in 1987 for $19.5m.

However in 2008 it was handed over to investment firm Colony Capital LLC after the Thriller star ran into financial troubles.

Following his death in 2009, the ranch fell into disrepair.

Michael Jackson’s Father, Joseph, Thanks His Son’s Estate For Selling Sony-Beatles Catalog. 19-03-'16

Joseph JacksonNo one asked him, but Joseph Jackson has sent a public Thank You note to Michael Jackson’s executors. The reason? They sold Michael’s part of Sony/ATV Music and the Beatles catalog back to Sony for $750 million. Joe no doubt read that there’s a $733 lump sum payout on March 31st. He’s probably hoping for a taste. I love how he adds “my wife Katherine and myself”– they haven’t lived together for years, he has an illegitimate daughter, she’s had divorce papers drawn up several times.

I missed Joseph Jackson. At 87, he’s been recuperating from strokes and a heart attack he had in Brazil on his birthday last year after taking sex drugs in the hopes of getting some action. Am I being too hard on him? Yeah, he beat those kids, particularly Michael. If Michael were alive, the catalog would still not be sold, and Joe wouldn’t be getting money from him. Remember, this is the man who brought a Michael Jackson imitator with him to the BET Awards four days after Michael died.

Here’s his statement:

On behalf of my wife Katherine and myself, I would like to personally thank the Executors of my Son’s Estate for a Job well done. Selling the Music catalog at the high end of today’s Market value of over 750 Million US Dollars, has secured many times over the financial future of Michael’s children: Prince, Paris and Blanket.

It is every fathers dream to secure the financial well being of his children. That is what drove me to work 2 jobs in my youth while struggling to make it through the Entertainment world.

Today, although my son Michael Joseph Jackson is no longer with us, I know he is looking down on his children from heaven as a proud father would, knowing he has secured a lifetime financial foundation for each of them.

Michael Jackson’s Chimp Bubbles Gets Stop Motion Animated Feature. 18-03-'16

Michael Jackson’s beloved chimp, Bubbles, will be the subject of a stop motion animated feature film that tells their story from the ape’s perspective, The Wrap has learned. The film is based on Isaac Adamson’s script, which appeared on 2015’s The Black List and was acquired by Andrew Kortschak and End Cue. Dan Harmon and his Starburns Industries production company are producing the film. “Community” veteran Harmon also executive produced “Anomalisa,” the Oscar-nominated stop motion animated feature film directed by Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson.

Bubbles (born 1983) is a common chimpanzee, known for being the one-time pet of Michael Jackson.

Bubbles was Jackson’s frequent companion in the 1980's, and the chimp even joined the iconic singer on his Bad World Tour in Japan. Adamson and Lee Stobby will executive produce alongside Harmon and Kortschak as producers. CAA is representing the distribution rights for the animated film.

Paris JacksonParis Jackson Following In Dad's Footsteps. 18-03-'16

Paris Jackson looks to have her late dad's passion for music as she shared clips of her singing as a treat for her Instagram fans.

Despite describing herself as an "amateur" in the series of throwback videos, King of Pop Michael 's 17-year-old daughter shows some talent as she belts out a range of tunes.

Playing her own accompaniment on a black acoustic guitar, the first of the clips sees the aspiring artist performing a touching rendition of Bob Dylan's classic hit 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door'.

In another of the videos, Paris - sporting the longer hairdo she had before her recent transformation - delivers a cover of 'If You Could Read My Mind', which has been played by the likes of Gordon Lightfoot, Don Williams and Olivia Newton-John in the past.

The final throwback post features the teenager going for a more modern choice as she gives a soulful performance of Cage The Elephant's track 'Right Before My Eyes'.

Paris recently flaunted a dramatic new image , stepping out after dying her newly cropped hair platinum blonde.

The teen looked happy and confident as she rocked her bold look, which made her icy blue eyes look brighter than ever before.

Paris, whose dad tragically died in 2009, revealed her new hair last week writing: "You gotta embrace the awkward phase from jet black to blonde where it's pretty much orange... ch ch ch ch changes (sic)"

MJ Hologram BIllboard Music AwardsMichael Jackson Hologram Dispute Is Settled. 17-03-'16

Alki David's Hologram USA and John Textor's Pulse Evolution Corp. agree to move onward and forward from patent infringement and cyberstalking lawsuits.

Two companies that fought viciously over the rights to hologram and digital projection technology have come to an agreement with each other, although it won't quite end all the legal madness over the technology capable of reviving dead stars and allowing living ones to be in multiple places at any given moment.

Hologram USA, run by entrepreneur Alki David, filed a patent infringement lawsuit in Nevada against John Textor's Pulse Evolution Corp. at the time of the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, which featured Pulse's work on a Michael Jackson hologram. (The Hollywood Reporter's parent company originally was a co-defendant, but was voluntarily dropped from the case.)

There was more to this lawsuit than met the eye. Hologram USA claimed rights over a technology — a derivation of a 19th century illusion called "Pepper's Ghost" — that had derived from a German inventor named Uwe Maass who worked with a British business person, Ian O'Connell, and another individual, before the company was thrown into bankruptcy under contentious circumstances. The technology then was auctioned to an Italian before winding up in the hands of David, a Greek billionaire, who began fighting with Textor, whose company was O'Connell's American licensee for spectacles like the famous Tupac Shakur hologram at Coachella.

Got that?

If not, our story in May 2015 explained in more detail this crazy international fight, including a side lawsuit brought in Florida by Textor against David for alleged extortion and cyberstalking for doing things like posting a picture of Adolf Hitler on Instagram and tagging him. (That latter case was recently featured in a Florida appeals court decision over the constitutionality of a cyber-gag order.)

Now, however, in a settlement that, as we understand it, resolves both the Michael Jackson hologram dispute as well as the Florida cyberstalking case, the parties have agreed to rest their bitter dispute so as to move forward in their plans to conquer the universe with holograms and digital projections of celebrities everywhere. For example, Pulse just struck a deal with Simon Fuller to come on board as a partner in hopes of creating the next digital human pop star.

In a statement Pulse provides, "Hologram USA, Inc., MDH Hologram, Ltd., and Pulse Evolution Corporation report that they have reached an amicable resolution of the litigation related to the 2014 Billboard Music Awards.”

A Hologram USA spokesperson adds, "Though the terms of the agreement are confidential, we were very happy to receive Pulse's settlement."

Despite the lovefest — and Hologram USA's parting kiss — there's still controversy in court. On Monday, after a judge ordered a severing of claims, O'Connell filed his own lawsuit in Nevada asserting patent infringement, breach of contract, tortious interference, fraudulent misrepresentation and more against Hologram USA and O'Connell's former partner Maass concerning rights to the technology. If the action survives any jurisdictional and statute of limitation challenges, the court will probably have to delve once again into the development of the technology at hand as well as the business dealings and international arbitration proceedings that preceded the notice of settlement filed in court on Wednesday (March 16).

The Estate Of Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson named attorney John Branca (family friend) and music executive John McClain as the executors of his estate.

Statement From The Estate Of Michael Jackson. 15-03-'16

Statement released for Michael’s fans from the Michael Jackson Estate explaining the reasons they sold the remaining 50% of the Sony/ATV Catalogue to the Sony Corporation.

As you may recall, last October 2015 Sony triggered the “buy-sell” clause in the partnership agreement which provides for one partner to buy out the share of the other at the highest possible price. As has now been announced, the Estate and Sony have signed a memorandum of understanding for Sony to purchase the Estate’s interest in Sony/ATV. In the intervening months, we explored several options that would have positioned the Estate as the buyer, rather than Sony, and we had substantial interest from potential partners to work with us in doing so. Ultimately, however, Sony’s offer was in the best interest of Michael’s children and we made the difficult decision to accept that offer. The arrangements will further secure the financial future of Michael’s heirs. The amount that Sony is paying, $750 million, is a substantial premium on the Estate’s interest in the company after taking into account the debt of the company, the Purchase Option and other adjustments required under the partnership agreement. It is also a huge testament to Michael’s business acumen that his original investment appreciated so substantially over the last 30 years.

There are several reasons that led to our decision. We will use a portion of the proceeds to repay the loan balance on monies borrowed by Michael and secured by his interest in Sony/ATV which means that after starting with more than $500 million in debt seven years ago, the Estate is now completely debt free with substantial assets in cash and other property. The balance of the proceeds from this sale, after taxes, fees and expenses, will be held by the Estate and ultimately will be transferred to a trust for the benefit of Michael’s beneficiaries. Furthermore, the transaction allows the Estate to diversify assets which, to date, have been highly concentrated in music intellectual property.

We would like to underline that the sale has no effect whatsoever on the 100% ownership of the publishing on all of the songs that Michael wrote, which all remain part of Mijac Music, as well as those songs written by many of Michael’s favorite songwriters, that he acquired outside of Sony/ATV. These songs include 'After Midnight', 'Love Train', 'I Got A Woman', 'When A Man Loves A Woman', 'People Get Ready', 'Great Balls Of Fire', 'Runaround Sue', the entire Sly and the Family Stone catalog and other songs. The Estate also continues to own its 100% interest in all of Michael’s solo master recordings and short films. There is no intention of selling any of these wholly-owned assets.

While the sale of Michael’s interest in Sony/ATV is bittersweet for all of us – especially for those of us involved in helping Michael create this company back in 1995, the fact that we are even in this position in the first place further validates Michael’s foresight and genius in investing in music publishing. As we noted in the official press release, Michael’s ATV catalogue, purchased in 1985 for a net acquisition cost of $41.5 million was the cornerstone in the 1995 formation of Sony/ATV and, as evidenced by the value of this transaction, is still considered one of the smartest investments in music history.

We are aware that some fans were hoping that the Estate would be the buyer of Sony’s share in Sony/ATV, rather than the reverse. That was our goal as well when we started on this path last year, but ultimately, Sony’s offer made more sense for the reasons outlined above. We are dedicated to protecting and growing Michael’s legacy, and maximizing the value of his Estate for the benefit of his children. This sale allows us to protect the assets most dear to Michael (his own songs and those he acquired and retained outside of Sony/ATV), close out his debts, and continue to grow his legacy for future generations.
