Sony Finalizes Acquisition Of Michael Jackson Estate's Stake In Sony/ATV Publishing. 30-09-'16

The Sony Corp. has completed its acquisition of the Michael Jackson's estate share of Sony/ATV Music Publishing, giving it sole ownership of the music publishing powerhouse.

The deal was first announced in March, but it took a while to close because the transaction had to be scrutinized by the EU Commission and because the Jackson estate needed to do some house cleaning in preparation for cashing out, sources say.

While the press release announcing the closing said that Sony paid $750 million for the Jackson's estate 50% share in the company, Billboard estimates that the company's valuation was anywhere from $2.2 billion to $2.4 billion when debt and an earlier agreed upon discount-- for some other consideration previously given by Sony to the Jackson estate--are taken into account.

"The payment also reflects certain contractual and accounting adjustments related to the Sony/ATV joint venture and other commercial opportunities involving Sony and the Estate," the announcement said.

Sony buy Michael Jackson’s half of Sony/ATV for $750 Million.

Both Sony and the Jackson estate still have a stake in EMI Music Publishing, which they acquired when a consortium, including other investors, put together by Sony, acquired that publishing entity now administered by EMI. And of course, Sony still issues Jackson's music.

Sony said the purchase is not expected to have a material impact on its forecasted financial results for the year ending March 31, 2017.

"The completion of this deal is terrific news for Sony/ATV and everyone who works for the company," Sony/ATV chairman/CEO Martin Bandier said in a statement. "It marks the start of an exciting new chapter in our proud history and we cannot wait to get started as a 100% Sony-owned company. Sony Corporation has shown absolute faith and support in us and what we do by undertaking this deal and we are ready to repay that trust in the months and years ahead."

For its part, the Jackson estate noted that the transaction will not affect its continuing substantial interests in other music assets, including all of Jackson's master recordings as well as Mijac Music, the publishing company that owns all of the songs written by Jackson as well as songs by some of his favorite songwriters and artists that were acquired by Michael during his life.

"I'd also like to take a moment to thank the Estate and especially John Branca, John McClain and Karen Langford for everything they have done for Sony/ATV over the two decades of the joint venture," Bandier added. "They will remain an integral part of our legacy."

The fedora is made from wool with a black grosgrain ribbon hat band and is autographed “Love Michael Jackson” on the underside of the brim. Michael Jackson Guitarist Jennifer Batten On What It Was Really Like To Work With The King Of Pop.

Jennifer BattenMichael Jackson’s guitarist Jennifer Batten is coming to Manchester to perform with one of the world’s leading tribute acts to the King of Pop.

Jennifer - with her signature mane of big blonde hair - was instantly recognisable in the 80's and 90's, playing stadiums around the world with MJ and is a legend in her own right among Jackson fans.

She was the 'Beat It' legend’s lead guitarist for a decade, accompanying him on his record-breaking 'Bad', 'Dangerous' and 'HIStory' world tours and his 1993 Super Bowl performance which was beamed to 1.5 billion people in 80 nations.

In an exclusive interview, Jennifer has revealed what it was really like to work with Michael Jackson, who died in 2009 leaving behind a legion of devastated fans, and why we will never see the likes of MJ again.

She said: “No we will never see a talent like his in our lifetime. I’m pretty sure that only comes around once per century.

“He was a creative tornado.

“When he was getting ready, his hair done, he was also writing lyrics. Creativity flowed through him.

“He was creative in dance, music, staging-you name it. It was his dream to come up with the greatest show on earth and really give people their moneys worth when they came to his shows. Every tour was different and flowed from his imagination.”

Jennifer - who was a fan of Jackson since his first groundbreaking solo album 'Off The Wall' - is enjoying keeping his memory alive through performing his music today,

She came to work with the musical legend when she was invited to audition for the Bad tour of 1987, his first solo world concert tour which lasted for 16 months, visited 15 countries and performed to over 4,4 million people. Seven sold out shows at London’s Wembley Stadium attracted more than half a million people including Princess Diana and Prince Charles.

She said: “Several days after the audition I received a call that he was interested in me.

“A couple years ago I actually saw his notes. Next to my name, he drew three stars and wrote ‘Great.’”

One of her favorite memories was playing the Super Bowl but it was the only time that she sensed that Michael - one of the world’s greatest performers - was nervous.

She explained: “He was under a hell of a lot of pressure that day. Everything had to go right because it was live and would live on YouTube forever.”

Asked what the pop superstar was like to work with, she said: “He was very down to earth and friendly.

“He was extremely appreciative of our efforts, professionalism and dedication. He had great respect for all of us.

“There where 100 people in the entourage. So, I would not consider him a friend but I was an employee.

“From the band, the closest member to him would be Greg Phillinganes, who had played on his records since the Jackson Five. He was our musical director.”

She added: “One of my favorite memories is when he shut down the Tokyo Disneyland so we could jump on all of the rides without having to wait in any lines.

“He shut down various amusement parks around the world so we could do that, and arranged various dinners for us, especially when we were touring during American Holidays.

“While at Disneyland, he came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder to tell me how much he liked the way I played the 'Beat It' solo.”

Jennifer will perform with Navi at Bowlers Exhibition Centre, Trafford Park, on Friday September 30.

Spike Lee Returns To Montreal International Black Film Festival With Michael Jackson Documentary.

Spike LeeMalcolm X was clearly a natural for Spike Lee to bring to the screen. But Michael Jackson?

Perhaps not so obvious to some, but it makes perfect sense for those who have followed the arc of Lee’s career. Both Malcolm X and Jackson were African-American icons who made major impacts in their chosen paths, who constantly had to contend with racism (albeit on dramatically different levels and stages) and whose lives ended in such tragedy.

Lee brings his latest, the documentary 'Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off The Wall', to the 12th Montreal International Black Film Festival team, which runs from Sept. 28 to Oct. 2. As an added bonus, Lee will not only attend the Oct. 1 screening of the film at Concordia’s Hall Building Alumni Auditorium, he will also conduct a Q&A following it.

'Michael Jackson’s Journey', which made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, could almost be construed as a prequel to the director’s 2012 doc 'Bad 25', which marked the 25th anniversary of the Jackson disc 'Bad'.

But as the title to the new doc suggests, this one goes back to the King of Pop’s beginnings in 1965, when he was but a more innocent Prince of Pop, singing/strutting along with his brothers as the Jackson 5. Through vintage interview and concert footage, the film follows Jackson through the split from Motown to his groundbreaking 1979 solo disc, 'Off The Wall'.

Second Alleged Victim Claims Michael Jackson Operated Elaborate Child Sex Syndicate. 20-09-'16

James Safechuck
James Safechuck

A second alleged victim is ramping up his claim Michael Jackson and his inner circle operated the most elaborate child sex syndicate "the world has known."

James Safechuck, 38, filed an amended complaint in Los Angeles Monday alleging the King of Pop's companies MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures negligently enabled Jackson's abuse of underage boys.

The new filing — which a Jackson source dismissed as "ludicrous" — comes just days after a similar revised complaint was filed by the same lawyers on behalf of accuser Wade Robson, 34.

"Jackson was a pedophile who consumed children, and in order to do that he needed money and help. What he got from MJJ Productions was a cadre of willing accomplices who looked the other way and allowed him access to children," John Manly, one of the new lawyers for both Safechuck and Robson, said Tuesday.

"There's evidence that certain MJJ Productions personnel would tell their own staff, 'Don't bring your children here,' and then they would make arrangements for other children to be there constantly," he told the Daily News. "That's malicious. How can you in good conscience bring other children in for the slaughter?"

Manly's southern California law firm has represented hundreds of victims of clergy sex abuse around the country.

Robson and Safechuck first stepped forward in 2013 and 2014 with lawsuits targeting Jackson's megabucks estate.

When the lawsuits were thrown out for being too late, the plaintiffs later switched course and went after the companies instead.

Safechuck, a 36-year-old father of two, starred with Jackson in a Pepsi commercial when he was 10 years old.

His suit alleges Jackson began molesting him in a Paris hotel room at the start of his "Bad" tour in 1988 and that the sexual abuse continued for years.

It describes how Jackson allegedly developed code words and gestures to control Safechuck and safeguard their secret.

Jackson taught Safechuck to refer to an erection as "bright lights, brick city," the lawsuit states. It also alleges that while holding hands with Safechuck, Jackson would scratch the inside of the boy's hand as a signal he wanted to have sex.

The paperwork claims Jackson plied Safechuck and his parents with cash, gifts and first-class travel to Hawaii, New York and Europe to slowly gain their trust.

On one occasion he flew them to New York, put them up in Trump Tower and brought them to see "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway. He introduced them to Liza Minnelli and the show's star Michael Crawford, the filing claims.

The complaint alleges Jackson induced Safechuck to testify on the singer's behalf in the 1993 investigation of the alleged sexual abuse of Jordan Chandler. That case was dropped following a private settlement.

Safechuck further claims Jackson contacted him in 2005 with a request he give "false testimony" at Jackson's criminal trial in Santa Barbara.

Jackson turned "angry" and threatening when Safechuck declined, he claims. A jury ultimately acquitted the singer.

Safechuck claims it wasn't until Robson first stepped forward in 2013 that he began seeing a psychiatrist and came to believe his anxiety and panic attacks stemmed from Jackson's alleged abuse.

Attempts to reach a lawyer for the MJJ Productions were not immediately successful Tuesday.

This is "a case with no merit and ludicrous accusations," a Jackson source said Tuesday.

When Safechuck filed his original lawsuit in 2014, estate lawyer Howard Weitzman blasted it as baseless.

"This is a person that made his claim five years after Michael died, more than 20 years after the incidents supposedly happened and who has given sworn testimony that Michael never did anything inappropriate to him," Weitzman said at the time.

Paris, Prince And Blanket Jackson: Where Are Michael Jackson’s Kids Now? 19-09-'16

It’s been seven years since legendary singer Michael Jackson passed away. The father to three children — Paris, Prince and Blanket — the King of Pop tried his best to keep his children out of the spotlight while he was alive, often covering his kid's faces from paparazzi with masks and blankets. After the singer’s death, his kids have maintained the same level of privacy but as they get older, some have stepped out into public more often. Check out what MJ’s kids are up to now in 2016.

Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., 19
Around the age of 16, the oldest Jackson child, also known as Prince Michael, began doing work on television, appearing on “Entertainment Weekly” and “90210.” Following his TV work, Prince began making less appearances in public. In 2015, Prince graduated high school and now currently attends Loyola Marymount University. Prince also remains active on social media, tweeting and retweeting followers.

Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson, 18
Out of all the children, Michael’s only daughter has been seen the most in public. Following her father’s death, Paris and her brother’s made appearances at various Michael Jackson-related events. Usually, Paris could be seen sporting a shirt with her father’s image. Although things were going well for Paris, in 2013, at the age of 15, Paris attempted suicide. Luckily, Paris survived and hasn't attempted suicide since but she is apparently dealing with cyber bullying.

Earlier this month, Paris took to YouTube to upload a video firing back at online bullies. “I don’t understand how there can be so much hated in the world right now,” she said. “I’ve tried sticking up for myself. I’ve tried the whole ‘blocking the haters’ thing, not reading the comments. I’ve tried a lot of things; ignoring it. But it’s hard.”

Prince Michael Jackson II, 14
Better known as Blanket — besides infamously being dangled over a balcony by his father — the youngest Jackson child has kept the lowest profile. After being called Blanket his entire life, the eighth-grader recently changed his named to Bigi. According to Radar Online, the name made the youngest Jackson child the subject of bullying. While he hasn’t been seen often, Bigi was recently spotted in Malibu, California.

Carol Burnett Says She Felt 'Sad' For The Way Michael Jackson Saw Himself: 'I Thought He Was Beautiful'. 13-09-'16

In Such Good Company Book CoverCarol Burnett has been on the stage and in front of the camera for over six decades, giving fans a never-ending list of memorable jokes, characters and anecdotes.

And at 83, the actress isn't done impressing us just yet. In her latest book, 'In Such Good Company: Eleven Years of Laughter, Mayhem, and Fun in the Sandbox' -- out today -- the Golden Globe winner takes us back in time, sharing hilarious behind-the-scenes stories of her iconic variety series, The Carol Burnett Show.

As one of the most popular TV shows of all time, Burnett reminiscences fondly about her guest stars, like Dick Van Dyke and Joan Rivers, while talking about the more memorable episodes. One in particular definitely stands out.

Burnett recalls when The Jackson 5 made a guest appearance on the hit show, which ran from 1967 to 1978. She goes on to explain the skit they were performing, and how an unexpected earthquake shook the stage. Despite the semi-traumatic experience, Burnett says the musicians remained shy and sweet.

The comedic legend also reveals that it pained her to see how Michael Jackson felt about his appearance.

"I'm still sad that Michael thought he was unattractive," she writes. "I thought he was beautiful."

It's no secret the late King of Pop's looks changed dramatically throughout his career, reportedly undergoing his first plastic surgery in his early 20's.

The first time Michael, Jackie, Jermaine, Tito, and Marlon -- along with their youngest brother, Randy -- were on our show was March 16, 1974.

The Jacksons performed 'Dancing Machine', featuring the incredibly talented sixteen-year-old Michael, and later on in the show they took part in our finale, portraying bored "students" (along with our dancers) in a classroom run by an uptight old biddy (me) attempting to teach the kids how to read music.

Pointing to a music staff written on a chalkboard, the teacher proceeds to pontificate.

The stage lights above us started swaying like crazy, and everybody in Studio 33 stopped breathing for a few seconds, until the jolt was over. I glanced at our audience, and no one had moved. I figured I should keep on going with the scene, and as the teacher I said, "No visiting, no visiting! The earth just moved. See what can happen when you pay attention!"

There were no more jolts and we finished the number, none the worse for wear.

The Jacksons were very shy during rehearsals, so very, very shy. But when it came time to perform, they blew the roof off the studio! They were the sweetest kids in the world, and I couldn't wait to have them back with us. They graced our show with their fantastic talents three times. I'm still sad that Michael thought he was unattractive. I thought he was beautiful.

Wade Robson Asks Court To Add Negligence Claims To Graphic Michael Jackson Abuse Lawsuit.

Wade RobsonIn a graphic new complaint, choreographer Wade Robson seeks to pursue additional negligence claims against two companies formerly controlled by Michael Jackson that he says fostered nearly a decade of sexual abuse.

In 2013, Robson sued MJJ Productions, the late musician's entertainment company, and MJJ Ventures, which employed Robson and Jackson during the time of the alleged abuse. Two months ago, the choreographer brought on attorney Vince Finaldi, who filed the motion to amend after reviewing the case file. Its claims are disturbing.

"MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures were held out to the public to be businesses dedicated to creating and distributing multimedia entertainment by Michael Jackson, however, in fact, they actually served dual purposes," writes Finaldi in the complaint filed Friday. "The thinly-veiled, covert second purpose of these businesses was to operate as a child sexual abuse operation, specifically designed to locate, attract, lure and seduce child sexual abuse victims."

Robson claims Jackson and his inner circle within the two companies "designed, developed and operated what is likely the most sophisticated public child sexual abuse procurement and facilitation organization the world has known."

The choreographer says he first met the late pop star when he was five years old, after winning a "dance-a-like" competition run by MJJ Productions in Australia, where Robson was born. Two years later, his family took a trip to California because Robson's dance company was performing at Disneyland. Robson's mother contacted Jackson's assistant Norma Staikos to set up a meeting, according to the complaint, which describes Staikos as "a 'madam' or 'procurer.' " The family was invited to stay at Neverland Ranch, where Robson slept in Jackson's bed while his family stayed in separate guest quarters.

It was that weekend, Robson claims, that Jackson first sexually abused him. He was seven years old.

The graphically detailed complaint describes encounters ranging from French kissing to penetrative sex. Robson claims the abuse continued until he was 14, but became less frequent when he "began showing signs of puberty" and Jackson was "no longer as interested in him sexually."

In the following years, Robson would be called to testify in a civil suit brought by Jordan Chandler and in Jackson's criminal trial. Leading up to his testimony, he says the singer called him nearly every day to coach him and " 'brain washed' him into being a 'good soldier.' " He testified that no abuse had occurred.

Robson says he loved Jackson like a father and did not believe he was sexually abused until he entered psychotherapy following a nervous breakdown in 2012. He hasn't worked since.

Now, six months prior to the scheduled trial, Finaldi wants to amend the complaint to "rectify various flaws...simplify the complaint, and plead various causes of action/allegations that were omitted from the operate complaint."

Finaldi seeks to add several negligence claims to the suit, arguing the MJJ companies "breached their duty to take reasonable protective measures to protect minor children in their charge."

He's also seeking to withdraw the causes of action of childhood sexual abuse, sexual battery, assault and battery and negligent infliction of emotional distress, as well as allegations regarding the estate.

Attorneys for MJJ have not yet responded to a request for comment.

Trial is currently scheduled for March 13.

The JacksonsThe Jacksons Excited To Tour SA. 08-09-'16

Forty years after their first plans to take an anniversary tour to South Africa had to be scrapped, The Jacksons are finally on their way to perform in the country for the first time.

The legendary Jackson brothers will mark their 50th anniversary year with their first ever performance in South Africa when they headline at the DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival in October next month. The Jacksons’s manager, Cedric Perrier, says of the concert: “The excitement about performing in South Africa is palpable in our camp.”

Speaking from the US, oldest Jackson brother, Jackie, Jackson adds: “We’re really looking forward to this. We had hoped to go to South Africa for our 10th anniversary in the 1970's, but that was during the apartheid era so circumstances prevented it. But now we’re on our way and there ain’t no stopping us.

“We have visited other places in Africa, but this will be our first time in Johannesburg. We expect it will be beautiful. We are really looking forward to discovering the local culture; just touring around and meeting the people – getting to know the fans.”

The DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival performance will be The Jacksons’s only show in South Africa for now. They hope to tour the country – and the continent – more extensively in the future. But they promise a memorable show as their entrée into the country.

“The Jacksons always bring a good show. They have been doing this for a long time – and you can see it in their stagecraft,” says Perrier. Jackie promises it will be a great family outing: “We have fans of all ages. You can bring everyone to the concert and you don’t have to worry about cursing or anything. You’ll have people dancing in the audience, so they all need to bring their dancing shoes. We will do as many songs as we can – all the Jackson songs people want to hear.”

Having heard great things about the local music, the Jacksons also hope to discover the music and leading artists of South Africa during their visit to SA. With The Jacksons having shot to fame as youngsters, Jackie Jackson is a believer in the power of music to empower the youth, and he volunteers at a US organisation called It’s Time for Kids, where he teaches inner-city kids children about the music industry.

Asked whether he has advice for South Africa’s aspiring young musicians, Jackie said: “Nothing is easy, but if you really want it, you just have to strive for it. Work hard and eventually you’ll be rewarded. Don’t ever give up on your dream – go for it. Give it your all and it can happen.

”Because the annual DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival is a lifestyle and music spectacular built around fine food, we asked Jackie about his favourite foods.

“I wouldn’t want to talk about what my favourites are at home,” he says. “Rather, I’m really looking forward to trying South African dishes.”

Paris Jackson Moves Into Father Michael’s Mansion With Boyfriend. 08-09-'16

Paris and Michael
Paris and her boyfriend Michael Snoddy.

Paris Jackson has reportedly moved into her late father Michael Jackson's Los Angeles mansion with boyfriend Michael Snoddy.

The 18-year-old is the only daughter of singer Michael, who died in 2009 aged 50. She began dating musician Michael, a drummer with punk band Street Drum Corps six months ago, and their relationship is apparently going from strength to strength, as the New York Post’s gossip column Page Six is reporting the couple have set up home up together.

According to the outlet, Paris opted for her father’s home in Encino, Calfiornia, as her first house with her new beau – the property where the music legend once recorded tracks such as 'Beat It' and 'Billie Jean'.

Not only have the pair moved into together, but they have also reportedly adopted a dog called Koa. Michael, who also had a job delivering pizzas has also now quit his job at D’Amore’s Pizza in Malibu, insiders revealed.

“Michael (Snoddy) quit his job around July (16) and they moved into the house where Michael (Jackson) grew up,” a source close to Paris told Page Six. “Now they’re trying to do this happy family thing. They refer to themselves as a family a lot.”
In fact, some of their friends are said to believe the smitten young couple may have married in secret.

The drummer has also been pictured wearing a gold band on his ring finger for the past few weeks on Instagram, but rumours of a wedding have yet to be confirmed.

Paris’s late father lived in the Encino mansion until he moved to his now infamous Neverland Ranch in 1988.

The property was initially purchased by Joe Jackson, Paris’ grandfather, and has been occupied by various members of the Jackson family at different stages. Since Michael’s death, it has allegedly been a point of contention in the fight between the singer’s mother Katherine and his estate.

Paris had been living with grandmother Katherine, and brothers Prince and Blanket, in a seven-bedroom house in Calabasas, California, until she moved in with her beau.

Michael Jackson Fans Claim The King Of Pop Appears In Daughter Paris' Selfie. 05-09-'16

Michael Jackson fans say they believe that they have spotted the late King of Pop in a selfie posted by his daughter Paris Jackson.

A selfie that Paris had posted back in May shows her in a car with what appears to be some type of shadowy figure in the backseat, a figure that some are claiming to be the King of Pop himself.

Paris Jackson
Paris Jackson's selfie caused a Twitter frenzy, as several fans suspected their idol MJ was the mysterious figure in the back seat of the car.

A YouTube video titled 'SHOCK! Michael Jackson Seen Alive 2016 Paris Jackson Instagram photo' tries to corroborate the theory. The clip shows the selfie and then zooms in to show Michael's face emerging from the shadows. Many commenters on the video do not buy into the far-fetched theory.

A Petition To Honor The Memory Of Michael Jackson In Gary... 03-09-'16

A community called to rename the names of certain streets in Gary, birthplace of the King of Pop. Broadway would be renamed "Michael Jackson memorial way" and 25th Avenue in "Avenue Jackson Five".

You can sign this petition via this link.

Committee members were handed this petition to Isabelle Petitjean thus sharing it with all the French fans and that in due time will complete the sheet with the details of each voter.

The Jackson Family in general and Michael Jackson in particular arguably constitute the greatest entertainment family this world has ever seen, and they were born in Gary, Indiana.

In honoring The Jacksons, we honor ourselves as a community that influenced there development and thus played an important role in contribution to the world of entertainment.

Renaming streets in the honor of Michael and the Jackson Family has the potential to spearhead millions of dollars per year in economic development (for example, Memphis honoring Elvis Presley contributes as estimated 29 million dollars to their yearly economy).

A new book about Michael Jackson entitled ‘Michael Jackson: Rewind' is due for release on October 15, 2016.

Relive the incredible history of the King of Pop – in reverse – with Michael Jackson: Rewind.

By the time Michael Jackson passed away in 2009, he had sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide over his career; He had won 26 American Music awards and 13 Grammy awards as well as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and was ranked number three, after The Beatles and Elvis Presley, of best-selling music artists. Five years after his death, the net worth of his estate is more than 600 million dollars. He is, without a doubt, one of the most popular – and controversial – artists of all time.

Now, for the first time ever, author Daryl Easlea will explore the life and history of Michael Jackson…in reverse. Starting with his tragic death and rewinding to his early hits with the Jackson 5 and life in Gary, Indiana, this is a complete illustrated history of the King of Pop: his genius, his life, and his demons. Loaded with over 300 images, a timeline of his life, a complete discography, and more, this is the must-have book for any Michael Jackson fan.

Daryl Easlea is an author, DJ, and broadcaster whose work can be found in Record Collector (where he was once deputy editor), 'The Guardian', 'The Independent', and on the BBC. He is the critically acclaimed author of 'Without Frontiers: The Life and Music of Peter Gabriel', Cher: 'All I Want To Do', Madonna, and 'Talent Is An Asset: The Story Of Sparks'.

Among his work on 'Thriller' and 'Bad', Ndugu Chancler provided one of the most famous drumbeats of all-time on 'Billie Jean'. He also has played with artists including Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, George Duke, Weather Report, Santana, and Lionel Richie. He played on 'Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)' by Donna Summer. Listed as one of the Top 25 drummers in the world, aside from his ongoing musical career, he is currently Professor of Jazz and Contemporary Music Studies at the Thornton School Of Music, University Of Southern California.
