Paul McCartneyPaul McCartney Settles With Sony/ATV Over Beatles Catalogue. 30-06-'17

Paul McCartney has reached a deal with Sony/ATV to avert a 2018 legal battle over parts of “The Beatles” catalogue. Sony/ATV bought the late Michael Jackson’s 50% share of the catalogue, which Jackson himself had obtained after outbidding his 'Say Say Say' buddy McCartney in 1985. Both sides had a lot to lose, and possibly gain, with the risk of a high profile legal showdown looming.

"The parties have resolved this matter by entering into a confidential settlement agreement and jointly request that the Court enter the enclosed proposed order dismissing the above-referenced action without prejudice," said a letter from McCartney’s attorney.

It’s possible that both parties, particularly McCartney, were looking at the Duran Duran case, which the band said “flies in the face of a US Federal statute which prevents a contract being used to avoid returning rights to the creators." It’s assumed that both parties weighed the Duran Duran outcome in the balance to come up with a “fair” payout to McCartney.

As noted in a previous post “The case stems from Section 304(c) of the Copyright Act of 1976, which created a non-waiveable claw-back right for authors to reclaim their ownership interests in any works assigned by them prior to January 1, 1978. Under that section, an author may reclaim their copyright ownership interest by serving a termination notice on the rightsholder between 56 and 61 years after the copyright registered. For the songs that McCartney wrote for The Beatles’ first studio album in 1962, and which Sony currently owns (after purchasing the copyrights from Michael Jackson’s estate last year for $750 million), that means 2018 is the first year McCartney can begin clawing-back his ownership interests.”

McCartney sued back in January to ensure that he would not be in breach when he decided to reclaim his rights. Sony/ATV hardly pushed back, and it looks like both parties worked together to come up with this settlement. It’s a sad day for those who relish in a good old fashioned entertainment industry tussle.

The Jacksons‘I’m Just Glad Michael’s Name Was Jackson’. 29-06-'17

Eight years have passed since Michael Jackson’s shocking and untimely death.

And while his brothers continue the Jackson musical legacy, their little brother is still the sibling at the forefront of everyone’s minds.

“You never forget your sibling, no family forgets that,” eldest Jackson brother Jackie told The Gazette. “He will always be in my - in all our hearts.

“His music is always playing, 24:7, it’s around you. I’ll be driving in my car and will stop at the lights and see a big poster of him - like he’s saying ‘I see you big brother’.

“He was one of the greatest, and his name just happened to be Jackson, and he happened to be my brother and I’m glad his name was Jackson.

”But for Jackie, the eldest member of The Jacksons, that’s the way it should stay.

Michael even features in The Jacksons’ shows, with big screen tributes at venues - including Haydock Park Racecourse on Friday, July 7 and Blackpool’s Livewire Festival on Friday, August 25.

“Of course, it’s not the same with him not being here; he’s one of the greatest entertainers ever lived,” he said. “We feel his presence when we perform. At any given time, we know where he would have been on that stage with us.”

Even after all these years - The Jackson 5 first came to fame in 1969 with 'I Want You Back' - they love being on stage and see the end as no time soon.

“I always say this; Mick Jagger’s still going,” 66-year-old Jackie said of the 73-year-old Rolling Stone. “As long as they are touring, I will tour.”

“It was amazing. The things like that you don’t forget.

“People have been loyal fans to us since day one, and we thank them for that.”

With a hits back catalogue including 'ABC', 'I’ll Be There' and 'Never Can Say Goodbye', fans can be sure to have a night of singalong disco anthems at their live shows this summer.

“People have been loyal fans to us since day one, and we thank them for that.”

“We have so many we have to just do one or two verses of each or it will be a five hour show.”

We can only hope.

Michael Jackson Stage Show Comes To Cannock's Prince Of Wales Theatre. 28-06-'17

Robin Parsons
MJ look-a-like Robin Parsons.

Saluting 30 years of Michael Jackson's platinum-selling 'Bad' album – stage show Forever Jackson is coming to Cannock.

The critically-acclaimed show will be performed at the Prince of Wales theatre on Friday June 30.

'Bad' sold 500,000 copies within just five days of its UK release. It went to number one in 25 countries, selling a total of 45 million copies. Five of its songs topped the UK charts.

Forever Jackson producer Pete Tobit, of GRT Entertainments, said Bad's place in music history was not confined to mere record sales. "The supporting live tour grossed £100m," he said. "Forever Jackson captures the moment with superb musicianship, electrifying choreography, stunning audio visual projections and jaw-dropping special effects."

For 2017, Forever Jackson sees the album's many highlights including 'The Way You Make Me Feel', 'Man In The Mirror', 'Dirty Diana', 'Smooth Criminal' and 'Another Part Of Me'.

Pete added: "Forever Jackson takes you from The Jackson 5, through The Jacksons and on to MJ's rise to become The King of Pop."

Star of the show, Robin Parsons, has even had the honour of performing before Michael Jackson.

Robin appeared at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles as part of the pop legend's lavish 45th birthday celebrations. Pete added: "Not only do Robin's 100 per cent live, pitch-perfect vocals sound precisely like Michael, the resemblance is uncanny."

Robin is transformed into MJ thanks to a three-hour process using only theatrical make-up. And both he and the tightly-choreographed accompanying all-girl dance team Hip Hop Pop are attired in costumes that meticulously recreate Michael's imminently flamboyant stage costumes.

All the million-selling hits feature including: 'Thriller', 'Beat It', 'Billie Jean', 'Can You Feel It', 'Blame It On The Boogie', 'I Want You Back', 'Don't Stop Till You Get Enough' and 'Rock With You'.

The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced at £20, can be purchased from boxoffice.wlct.org or 01543 578762. Visit Facebook.com/ForeverJacksonShow. To be in with a chance to win a pair of tickets, visit the Newsletter Facebook page.

The Estate Of Michael JacksonThe Michael Jackson Estate Paid Tribute With A Statement. 26-06-'17

The Michael Jackson Estate also paid tribute to Michael with the following statement:

While our hearts remain heavy over the passing of Michael Jackson eight years ago, we take solace in the timelessness of his music and his message. “When I create my music, I feel like an instrument of nature,” Michael once said. “I wonder what delight nature must feel when we open our hearts and express our God-given talents.”

For a planet in desperate need of open hearts and compassionate minds, we continue to seek joy and fulfillment in the music and entertainment he shared with us—and express hope that Michael’s message may someday “heal the world,” as he tirelessly strove to do.

The Jacksons Get Glastonbury 2017 Dancing And Remember Michael Jackson. 25-06-'17

Veteran pop group The Jacksons had yesterday (June 24) Glastonbury festival-goers boogying wildly at the West Holts stage, as the band poignantly performed almost exactly eight years after Michael Jackson’s death.

Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon were on top form to delight fans choosing something with a more disco vibe than alt-J on the Other Stage or the relentless headliners Foo Fighters on the Pyramid.

Showing their years of experience, the Jacksons opened with classic hits and kept the popular tunes coming one after another.

There was minimal interaction with the crowd but there was a poignant moment when Jermaine spoke about the anniversary of brother Michael’s death.

Michael, perhaps the most famous Jackson because of his solo career producing records like 'Thriller' and 'Billie Jean', died on June 25, 2009.

The Jacksons finished their set just minutes before June 24 became 25 in Somerset.

But despite a moment of reflection, this was largely music at its infectious, uplifting best.

The set ended with an epic, sprawling version of 'Shake Your Body'.

And boy, did Glastonbury shake it.

The JacksonsThe Jacksons perform 'Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)' at Glastonbury 2017.

I was surrounded throughout by revellers swinging their hips and grooving on down, the flags of West Holts fluttering above and behind them.

During more than an hour and a quarter of music, The Jacksons crammed in 'ABC', 'Can You Feel It', 'Never Can Say Goodbye', 'I’ll Be There', 'Blame It On The Boogie', 'Enjoy Yourself' and more...

That list shows the strength of this band’s historic back catalogue.

The energy has taken an inevitable dip over the years but the choreography was in sync, the voices true and the dance moves impressive. Best of all were the smiles all over their faces.

They matched ours – what a night.

Paris Jackson TattooParis Shows Off Tattoo In Memory Of Late Father Michael. 24-06-'17

Paris Jackson‘s latest tattoo is a very sweet tribute to her late father, Michael Jackson.

The 19-year-old star has gotten the word “Applehead” inked on her left foot — a term of endearment she and those close to the late singer would affectionally call him.

“With every step I take, you lift my foot and guide me forward,” Paris captioned an Instagram shot of the tattoo, written in cursive across the top of her foot. “Love you.”

Earlier this month, Paris stunned on the cover of Vogue Australia. In the interview, she opened up about trying to be a positive role model for young girls and her career goals.

Jermaine JacksonJermaine Jackson: 'More People Involved' In Michael's Death. 23-06-'17

Michael Jackson’s older brother Jermaine Jackson says he believes “more people,” other than convicted doctor Conrad Murray, are to blame for his brother’s death ahead of the 8th anniversary of the pop icon’s passing Sunday.

“I’ll just say my observation to the whole thing that happened, during the time it happened, was that he [Conrad Murray] was just a finger to a bigger hand, there were more people involved in taking my brother’s life but his spirit will live on. He’s with us all the time,” Jackson told Fox Business.

Conrad Murray, who was Michael Jackson’s personal physician at the time of his death in 2009, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2011 for administering a lethal dose of propofol — an anesthetic used in hospital settings. Murray was sentenced to four years in jail but only served two and was released in 2013.

Earlier this month, Trinidad and Tobago Newsday reported that the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago (MBTT) was investigating claims that Murray was attending to patients at a local private medical facility without a license. However, a week later, the Trinidad Express reported that Murray is fully registered with the MBTT and has been seeing patients locally as a cardiovascular consultant. While Murray is banned from practicing in the U.S. since his conviction, he is legally able to practice medicine internationally.

Jackson says his family has learned to deal with all the sensationalized headlines surrounding Michael’s death, including family rifts over the pop icon’s estate, which is estimated to be worth over $600 million, according to Forbes.

“I really don’t know much about him. I don’t care. I don’t care where he goes,” Jackson said about Conrad Murray.

“We know who we are, and the rest is propaganda and it’s sensationalism,” he added. “People can say what they want to say about us but at the end of the day, we were family, we had each other before success so we’re going to continue being a family.”

Instead Jackson says the family is focused on healing and new beginnings, which is why he and his brothers Tito, Jackie and Marlon decided to go on tour to celebrate 50 years since the start of the Jackson 5.

And though Michael is not physically present to perform with his brothers, Jermaine adds: “He’s with us all the time, he’s even with us on the stage and we miss him every day.”

The Jacksons On Their 50-Year Career, Their Music, And Michael's Influence. 22-06-'17

Sam Delaney was joined by some very special guests on his show, after the Jacksons swung by talkRADIO for a chat.

Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon told listeners about their 50-year music career, including details about their first trip to the UK.

They said: "We were on the plane, and we were told we had about 8,000 screaming fans at the airport waiting for us.

"It was chaotic, pandemonium. We didn’t quite expect it, to see fans in sleeping bags waiting for us."

Tito has also released a solo record, entitled Tito Time. He told Sam about how his pop legend brother had inspired him to finish the record.

He said: "After fifty years, I finally decided to do a solo record. I’d been busy being married, and having children, and raising sons and stuff.

"Michael had heard the songs and encouraged me to continue to record. But then right in the middle of it, he passed away.

"I laid off it for two or three years, and then I remembered what he’d said, and it encouraged me to continue."

The group revealed how they "cherish" the memory of their brother, saying they felt "his spirit" whenever they performed.

The group have a busy summer coming up - they're due for several performances, notably at Glastonbury and Love Supreme Festival in July.

'Thriller 3D' Will Resurrect Michael Jackson This Summer. 19-06-'17

Michael Jackson will be scaring fans from beyond the grave later this summer with a reworked release of his iconic music video 'Thriller' in 3D.

Director John Landis, who shot 'Thriller' in 1982 with “The King of Pop,” will oversee the project, according to industry sources.

We’re told that for three years, Landis has been secretly re-working the iconic 14-minute music video, which was a groundbreaking piece of music history.

Sources say that Michael's son Prince and daughter Paris have been involved in the project, but details are being kept under wraps.

"'Thriller' is coming out again in movie form this summer and it will be something very special,” we're told. “John took the original footage, cleaned it up and has made it into something very unique.”

Our insider says Jackson, who died in 2009 and would’ve turned 59 in August, would have likely been pleased with this project.

Thriller Video Clip (02-12-1983)The World première of the video clip took place on December 02, 1983 on MTV.

“Michael’s vision before his death was to bring ‘Thriller’ to movie theaters and use IMAX and 3D technology to make fans feel they are in the video with him,” we're told. “There is a marketing plan in place to launch the new version with a huge PR drive with (Jackson’s children) Prince and Paris involved.”

We also hear that Prince, a filmmaking enthusiast, has expressed particular interest in this project. Our sources also say that fans are in for a double-feature.

“As part of the celebration relaunch, a new documentary exploring the incredible story behind the movie’s creation will be released,” we're told.

Landis joined the project after actually being caught up in a bitter legal war over the original 'Thriller' after Michael’s passing. That beef has apparently been buried.

The movie release marks the 35th anniversary of the 'Thriller' album launch.

Shortly after Jackson died, the 'Thriller' video was inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library Of Congress. No other music video had been given that honor.

Iron Maiden’s ‘The Trooper’ Meets Michael Jackson’s 'Beat It' In Seamless Mashup. 18-06-'17

This might be the greatest pop-meets-metal mashup we’ve ever heard. In this Best of YouTube clip, we revisit an incredible mix between Iron Maiden’s 'The Trooper' and Michael Jackson’s 'Beat It'.

YouTuber Nightmare Lyra has created a bunch of mashups, but 'Beat It, Trooper' is by far the most popular with over 370,000 views… which is still not nearly enough for something as good as this. In fact, it’s the only Nightmare Lyra mashup that’s surpassed 4,000 views, so you know this clip is the chosen one.

'Beat It, Trooper' begins with Iron Maiden’s iconic 'Trooper' riff, but before a vocal line even begins, the secondary guitar riff from 'Beat It' adds an extra layer to the Maiden classic almost seamlessly. Instead of Bruce Dickinson’s operatic voice singing the horrors of warfare, we get MJ’s famous lines as Maiden’s instrumental section drops out in the verse’s opening measures.

It’s eerie how well it all comes together, even without Dickinson’s woahs in the mix. In place of Maiden’s most powerful chant, Michael Jackson roars in with Beat it, beat it, no one wants to be defeated.” For a little added depth, samples from Anthrax’s 'Caught In A Mosh', Billy Idol’s 'White Wedding' and Judas Priest’s 'Painkiller', but you’d hardly notice.
