Iconic Michael Jackson Movie From Photo Session Needs $500,000 To Get Developed. 31-05-'17

Right now, there are a couple of Michael Jackson movies firing up MJ fans in 2017 such as the Lifetime movie 'Finding Neverland' and 'The Ultimate Icon' from Biography.

Released on May 29, 'The Ultimate Icon' was a huge hit with Michael Jackson fans, and this is especially true since MJ was not partial to interviews throughout his career.

Despite attempts of biopics to remember MJ or show some of his history, there is also one Michael Jackson film locked in a vault that shows the true unguarded Michael Jackson in 1982 — and the film has not even been developed in the past 35 years.

Unlike grainy home movies or extra footage found behind-the-scenes of making videos, this film of Michael Jackson is likely lengthy and has insights into his life that few fans may have been exposed to.

As if that was not enough, there is also a chance that the same person has another film with Michael Jackson in it that also has not been developed that includes the Jackson 5.

The photographer that took both of the films was the legendary Norman Seeff, and he took photos of the Jackson 5 in 1976. Norman Seeff also took photos of Diana Ross and Michael Jackson in 1982.

Norman Seeff Photoshoot (1976)There is also a possibility that Norman Seeff has a movie about the Jackson 5.

In a recent interview on 60 Minutes on CBS, Norman Seeff said this film of Michael Jackson or the Jackson 5 is not an exception since he filmed all of his photography sessions with creative people, and the one of Michael Jackson is just one of hundreds.

While Michael Jackson fans might want to see their favorite entertainer just before his December 1982 'Billie Jean' success, this might not be an immediate possibility. For example, Norman Seeff said in his 60 Minutes interview that aired on April 30, that he would need an estimated $500,000 to successfully recover all of the films he made while photographing some of America’s biggest legends.

Oddly, there are no current online crowdfunding websites that have been created to help Norman Seeff develop his massive film archive.

In addition to having value to fans, there is also archival value to the film. For instance, in 2013, the 1982 photo of Diana Ross and Michael Jackson by Norman Seeff was in a collection called “Photographs by Norman Seeff: The Lost Archive” that was auctioned by Christie’s for an estimated $5,000 to $7,000.

Norman Seeff Photoshoot (1982)Norman Seeff photographed Michael Jackson and Diana Ross in Los Angeles.

There are also several intriguing leaks from Norman Seeff about what might be on the undeveloped Michael Jackson film. For example, in 2013, MTV interviewed Norman Seeff, and he said the following about photographing Diana Ross and Michael Jackson (who worked on 'The Wiz' together in 1977) in Los Angeles in 1982.

“Diana asked for this shoot and what really struck me with this session was the tender relationship between Diana and Michael. I’d worked with Michael before and found him to be very shy and quiet. Shooting with Diana, though, he was clearly more comfortable and open with her there. It was really adorable to see what happened between them.”

This is also not the first time that the Norman Seeff archive has been covered. For example, in 2013, Vanity Fair pointed out Norman Seeff had this film archive, but he was not yet having many developed.

Since that time, Norman Seeff has been putting in hard work required to develop the film and put it into a digital format. On April 30, Norman Seeff did an extensive interview with CBS on 60 Minutes, and he revealed that his vault films about Michael Jackson and others would cost about $500,000 to finish developing.

In addition to Michael Jackson and Diana Ross, Norman Seeff has taken iconic photos of Ray Charles, Steve Jobs, and John Travolta. One other factor that has not been discussed is whether or not Norman Seeff has film footage of the Jackson 5.

According to the fan-produced website MJ World, Norman Seeff photographed the Jackson 5 and also filmed that session with the Jackson 5, but Seeff did not clarify if he still had the footage in his vault.

Despite this, if the film presents the Michael Jackson Norman Seeff has described in interviews, fans will likely enjoy seeing the Jackson 5 photography session film.

Norman Seeff
Norman Seeff

About photographing the Jackson 5 in 1976, Norman Seeff said the following about Michael Jackson.

“Michael was shy, shy, shy, shy. Everyone else was articulate, but Michael hardly said a word. I realized that, in such a gentle way, I needed to engage him. I think that’s just a sweet little moment where he opened up. They ended up actually singing and performing for a crowd of kids walking by the studio."

It should also be noted that the timing for Norman Seeff’s iconic photos of the Jackson 5 happened at a major turning point in their career as a band.

According to Albumism, when the Jackson 5 left Motown Records on June 30, 1975, their next album was recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia in June 1976 for Epic and Philadelphia International Records (PIR).

About Norman Seeff’s contribution to the photography for their 1976 album, The Jacksons, Albumism stated the following.

“[Y]ou can’t help but be swept up in the lighthearted, nostalgic fun of the album’s artwork, in which revered photographer and filmmaker Norman Seeff shot portraits of the group. On the front cover, the five Jackson men stand tall and proud, smiling cheek to cheek, with an aqua-colored background behind them. Their perfectly round afros and casual attire shine with a warm, mid-1970’s glow. In the portraits, you can feel the true ‘brotherly love’ that the Jacksons had for one another."

In other words, if Michael Jackson fans are tired of seeing 'Finding Neverland' or 'The Ultimate Icon' impersonators, the future might have one and possibly two previously unseen films that include a truly unguarded Michael Jackson.

Obviously, Norman Seeff was essential at helping Michael Jackson through turning points in his career, and it would not be hard to believe that Seeff’s photos might end up in a future movie about Michael Jackson’s iconic status.

Nevertheless, the next member of the Jackson family that will appear on film will probably be Michael Jackson’s daughter. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris Jackson, will also be in a growing number of film roles. However, unlike her father, Michael Jackson, Paris Jackson is not shunning interviews and is very camera-friendly.

'Michael Jackson: Searching For Neverland', 8 p.m. on Lifetime TV. Navi, an impersonator so spot on that Michael Jackson reportedly used him as a stand-in on occasion, stars as the King of Pop in this biopic based on a memoir by his bodyguards Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard.

Michael Jackson Impersonator Says He Felt King Of Pop's Presence On Lifetime Movie Set. 26-05-'17

Navi GoldProfessional Michael Jackson Doppelganger Navi has spent 28 years traveling the globe impersonating the most iconic pop star of all time at sold-out shows from New York to Beijing. “I have one of the most famous faces in the world, but it isn’t mine,” he says. But when he signed on to portray the King of Pop in Lifetime’s upcoming Dianne Houston-directed drama Searching for Neverland, Navi had one arena left to conquer: his own sense of fulfillment.

“I didn’t want it to be some glorified movie about allegations of crimes when he was proven innocent. … I wanted something that was made from the right perspective, that, even if it was showing an insight into his private life, people who knew him could look at it and understand he was a human being,” Navi tells EW of playing the part he’s spent most of his adult life preparing for. “I’m the Michael fan that stood outside the trial at the courthouse in Santa Maria with a sign that said, ‘Smooth, but not a criminal.’ When Michael passed away, I was at the Conrad Murray trial … because I’m a Michael fan and I wear it on my sleeve. … You’d think that would be the best swan song, but for me, it was this opportunity. If these 28 years [of impersonation] were building up to have this one moment, I’ll accept that, and I’m happy to walk away from the Jackson thing now. … I’m happy to be done because I had an opportunity to do something back for Michael.”

Indeed, Navi says he’s hanging up his dancing shoes following the release of this project, which premieres Monday and is based on the nonfiction book 'Remember The Time: Protecting Michael Jackson In His Final Days', written by Jackson’s former bodyguards Bill Whitfield (played by The Walking Dead‘s Chad L. Coleman) and Javon Beard (Sam Adegoke), about the days leading to his 2009 death. It’s a portrayal that Navi says isn’t obscene or exploitative, but rather a humanizing portrait of a tortured soul who was never given a fair shake in the eyes of the public.

“I want [everyone] to watch this film without a preconceived idea of who Michael Jackson was,” he muses. “Forget what the media said about him. Just watch the film, and then ask yourself one question: How different are you?”

While he came to know Jackson personally (and even worked for him as a body double) before the legendary singer-songwriter died of acute propofol intoxication in 2009, Navi says the film brought him closer to Jackson’s spirit, which he says manifested itself in unique ways during production.

“There was a connection to Michael Jackson, and I didn’t want to talk about it… but did I feel his spirit? I felt so much like Michael,” he says. “I felt I was Michael Jackson for a moment. I had the same joys, the same fears; I had the same laughter, the same caring, and the same anger.”

Read on for EW’s full interview with Navi, in which he discusses whether or not he’s spoken to the Jackson family about the project, why he originally turned Searching for Neverland down, and the connection he felt with Jackson while shooting the film.

Entertainment Weekly: You’ve essentially been preparing to play this part for most of your adult life, right? Is this a stylized version of Michael Jackson we’re not used to seeing?

This film is going to highlight a side the public never knew. He’s got issues that everybody has in their life, the drama of it all. It’s not the Michael Jackson everyone knows about, with big money and jets and concerts and amazing videos. … It puts a spotlight onto his personal life in a tasteful but genuine way.

I’m assuming you’ve had other opportunities to play him on screen in the past, so what spoke to you about this one?

They offered me this five time,s and I turned it down. … If you think about it, it’s the first time they looked for an impersonator to play Michael, not an actor. They’re looking for someone who can bring Michael’s character and being to the film … and I’ve appreciated that. I’ve been offered many things over the years, and I’ve turned them down because I didn’t want to do it for a quick buck or publicity. I’m a Jackson fan, foremost, so it had to be genuine. When I read the script, I asked myself, “Does Michael want this to be known?” but then there were times I thought it was so genuine that it should be known, the bitter and the sweet.

Blanket JacksonMichael Jackson's Youngest Son Blanket Has Changed His Name. 26-05-'17

The 15-year-old was just seven when his famous father passed away.

Blanket Jackson is no more! The 15-year-old son of late superstar singer Michael Jackson has changed his name, after reportedly being bullied about his unusual moniker for years. Since 2015, the teen has gone by the name Bigi, which comes from German origin and means idealistic, sensitive and inspirational. A new report this week has revealed how the 'shy' youngster is growing in confidence since deciding to go by a different name. A family friend told People that Bigi is still "shy around people he doesn't know", but is now "confident" at his private LA private school, and is focused on his grades, sports, movies and hanging out with his friends.

Bigi is the youngest of Michael's three children; the star was also a father to Michael Jackson Jr, 20, most commonly known as Prince Jackson, and 19-year-old daughter Paris Jackson. But it was Bigi who apparently struggled the most with his father’s death, back in June 2009.

"The kids live like Michael is constantly looking down on them," the insider said, adding that Bigi "has had the most problems adjusting after Michael died. He acted very lost and extremely upset". The teenager – whose mother is an unidentified surrogate – currently lives at his grandmother Katherine Jackson's home in Calabasas, California, under the custody of Michael's 87-year-old mother and co-guardian T J Jackson, Michael's 38-year-old nephew.

Earlier this year, big sister Paris shared a very rare photo of Bigi in celebration of his birthday. "ughhhh my little man is 15 today," she wrote alongside a picture of the pair pulling silly faces for the camera. "…I want you to stay a baby forever." She continued: "This lil dude right here is one of the strongest, intelligent and determined people I know. Watching you grow up and slowly become a man is like super terrifying but I honestly can't tell you how proud I am. I love you so much B."

Back For MoBack For Mo: Motown Musical Gets Philly Encore. 25-05-'17

After a best selling run that broke box-office records in Philadelphia a few years ago, Broadway Philadelphia is bringing back 'Motown: The Musical' May 30-June 11 at the Academy of Music at the Kimmel Center.

The musical is the true story of the legendary record label founded by music mogul Berry Gordy that was the launching pad for pop and R&B music icons like Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and many, many more.

Out ensemble cast member Matthew Sims Jr. said that the show strikes a balance between telling the label’s story and raising the roof with live performances of classic and timeless hits.

“It is kind of difficult on those two-show days,” Sims said. “But something about the music kicks in and then it’s like, ‘OK, let’s do it!’ You get a sense of the determination and drive that these people had just to become artists and be known. Someone could come off the street as a regular kid and walk out a star. That’s the mentality that they had. Berry Gordy could make them a star. He would take it personally that if he signed someone he would make them a star. And if he couldn’t, it wasn’t their fault, it was his. So in order for them to work with him, they had to have talent, drive and determination. You can see that in this story.”

“Motown: The Musical” returns to Philly May 30-June 11 at Academy of Music, 240 S. Broad St. For more information or tickets, call 215-893-1999 or visit www.motownthemusical.com.

Michael Jackson’s Final Film, ‘This Is It,’ Screens In Oakland. 22-05-'17

The fact that the documentary 'Michael Jackson’s This Is It' came out a mere four months after the singer’s death in 2009 suggested that it was going to be a cheap piece designed to make a quick buck.

Instead, it is one of the great cinematic portraits of a musical artist.

After his death from an accidental prescription drug overdose, Jackson was portrayed as an addict barely able to function. But the movie, shot during rehearsals at Los Angeles’ Staples Center for his upcoming world tour, shows an alert, engaged artist involved in every aspect of the production, from choreography to set design to collaboration with performers and crew. The music’s good, too.

The director, Palo Alto-born Kenny Ortega, was on the 'This Is It' team, and he was the perfect man for the job: The dancer and choreographer has worked with Gene Kelly and Madonna. He understands iconic artists.

'This Is It': 10:30 p.m. Friday, May 26. $10. The New Parkway Theater, 474 24th St., Oakland. (510) 658-7900.

Michael Jackson Estate Issues Statement Not Sanctioning Lifetime And Netflix Projects. 22-05-'17

The Estate Of Michael JacksonThe estate also said it has "numerous projects in development.

Michael Jackson's estate today released a statement saying it did not sanction two upcoming Michael Jackson projects, one by Lifetime TV and another for which a script was recently purchased by Netflix. At the same time the estate indicated it has several unannounced Jackson projects in development.

Last week, Lifetime TV released a trailer for its film 'Michael Jackson: Searching For Neverland' based on 'Remember The Time: Protecting Michael Jackson In His Final Days', a 2014 book written by Jackson’s bodyguards Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard. Michael Jackson impersonator Navi stars as the late pop icon. The film is slated to be released later this month.

News also broke that Netflix was nearing a deal for a script on the life of Michael Jackson as told from the perspective of his pet monkey Bubbles. Isaac Adamson penned the non-traditional biopic, which was the top title on the 2015 Black List. Taika Waititi, who directed the upcoming 'Thor: Ragnarok', was slated to co-helm the stop-animation feature with Mark Gustafson. Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the deal neared $20 million and included worldwide rights.

The statement from the estate implied that litigation could follow for what it is claiming is unauthorized use of Jackson's "music, images, video and films" that seek to exploit Jackson's legacy.

The estate also claimed it has "numerous project in development" which, presumably unlike the aforementioned projects, "respect, honor and celebrate Michael’s life and legacy." The executors said they were were not yet ready to announce these projects.

Full statement from the Michael Jackson Estate:

"To clear up any confusion or misperceptions about unsanctioned Michael Jackson projects currently in the news -- including a Lifetime television movie and an animated film script recently purchased by Netflix -- the Estate of Michael Jackson does not license or permit the use of any rights it owns, including to Michael’s music, images, video and films, for use in unauthorized works seeking to exploit Michael's legacy. The Estate itself has numerous projects in development, all of which respect, honor and celebrate Michael’s life and legacy along with his extraordinary artistry that touched fans throughout the world. When the executors are ready to announce them, they will. As Michael said countless times about his own work, the quality goes in before the name goes on."

Netflix Near Multi-Million Dollar Deal for ‘Bubbles,’ Film About Michael Jackson’s Chimp. 17-05-'17

Netflix is set to take worldwide distribution rights to “Bubbles,” The Wrap has learned, a top Black List script and super-hot package that kicks off this year’s Cannes Film Market.

The streaming giant will pay just south of $20 million at a highly competitive auction, an individual familiar with the negotiations told The Wrap. It was not immediately clear what other studios or indie houses were involved.

The stop-motion film will be directed by 'Thor: Ragnarok' helmer Taika Waititi and co-director Mark Gustafson ('Fantastic Mr. Fox').

Bubbles was late pop star Michael Jackson’s beloved pet chimpanzee. The film is billed as a coming-of-age tale told through the chimp’s eyes. CAA handled U.S. rights on the project, with Rocket Science taking international.

BubblesBubbles (born 1983) is a common chimpanzee, known for being the one-time pet of Michael Jackson.

Isaac Adamson wrote the script, which topped the 2015 Black List. Andrew Kortschak and Walter Kortschak of End Cue will produce the movie with Dan Harmon’s Starburns Industries. Adamson and Lee Stobby will serve as executive producers.

“The main thing for me is to make sure it’s respectful of him and his legacy. I’m not interested in making a biopic,” Waititi said when he came on board in February. “I want to focus on telling a story that blends fact and fantasy, about an animal trying to make sense of the world.”

SupremeSupreme Confirms Michael Jackson Capsule Collection. 12-05-'17

Last month, rumors of a possible Supreme x Michael Jackson capsule collection surfaced online. At the time, reports on the collab remained vague, with no information available for consumers. Today, the streetwear brand confirmed the upcoming release of the Michael Jackson collection with a post on Instagram showcasing one of the apparel pieces from the collection.

Posting a photo online of Supreme and Grind Magazine’s Spring/Summer editorial, the New York City retailer introduced one of the garments from the upcoming collection. Showcasing the backside of a white tee, Supreme highlights a monochromatic image of a young Michael Jackson in red a color scheme.
