How Michael Jackson Blew $500M Fortune On Cars, Houses And Zoo Animals And Died Broke. 15-08-'20

Michael JacksonDespite his multi-million pound song catalogue, Michael Jackson was in a staggering amount of debt when he died in 2009 after having burned through his fortune on a host of extravagant purchases.

Michael Jackson died in a staggering amount of debt with his abandoned Neverland Ranch serving as a haunting reminder of his extravagant pop star past.

The 'King of Pop' moved out of the infamous estate four years before his death in 2009 and vowed never to set foot in the place again after being cleared of child molestation charges.

On leaving his fantasy land behind, Jackson downsized to a rented mansion in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles where he spent his final days before dying from an overdose of surgical anesthetic Propofol.

It was during the star's wrongful death trial, that his 'precarious' finances were laid bare by experts.

The news had been surprising for fans, given that Jackson had been in showbiz since the age of six and at the top of his game for decades after.

As well as selling out numerous worldwide tours and notable endorsement deals, Jackson was also the owner of a mutli million pound music catalogue -that included his own work and that of artists such as The Beatles - but incredibly, the wealth he was bringing in with royalties was said to have been nothing compared to the incredible amount of debt he was racking up.

A forensic account asked to speak at the 2013 trial, revealed that Jackson blew his fortune on gifts, travel, art, zoo animals, jewellery and furniture - as well as making huge donations to numerous charities.

William R Ackerman described Jackson as being in a 'precarious financial position' as he spoke to the Los Angeles courtroom about the singer's money woes in defence of AEG Live in the wrongful-death trial.

While MJ was renowned for splashing the cash on material goods, Ackerman said that by far Jackson's biggest and most consistent expenditure when he was alive was the interest he paid on his debt.

The LA Times reported that Jackson was handing over $30million in annual payments on his debt when he died in 2009.

Accountant Ackerman said that as far back as 1993, Jackson owed $30million which grew to $140million by 1998.

When he died in 2009, Jackson was somewhere between $400million to $500million in debt, Ackerman told the court.

"He was tapped out," Ackerman said.

Ackerman also revealed that Jackson received no loans after 2007 and was three or four months behind payments of his San Fernando Valley home where his mother lived at the time of his death.

During the trial, the CPA also revealed that Jackson's tours in the 1990s had not been great money spinners. They explained Jackson broke even on his Dangerous tour in 1992 but lost $11.2million during his HIStory tour in 1997.

One of the biggest drains on Jackson's finances was his beloved Neverland Ranch which turned out to be a huge money pit.

The hitmaker was paying out huge amounts for the maintenance of the zoo and the train that travelled round the mini-theme park. His staff payments alone were said to have topped $2.5million a year.

On top of his sprawling Californian home, the 'King of Pop' also splashed out on a $9.5million mansion in Las Vegas, that was nicknamed 'The Thriller Villa.'

Jackson's Sin City property came complete with seven bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a guest house, bell tower, and a medieval chapel that could entertain more than 70 people - which was decorated with a hand-painted ceiling.

Michael also had an expansive art collection that was estimated to be worth around $90million and included pieces from French painters Paul Pascal and Maurice Utrillo.

He also loved treating himself to new motors with his custom made Rolls Royce Seaph Limousine being one of his most prized possessions.

Jackson also splurged on a 1990 Rolls Royce Silver Spur II and white 1998 Lincoln town car, both customised to meet his exact tastes.

He was also known to indulge in some very costly retail therapy.

Insiders close to the star said on occasion he would pick up a catalogue and order everything in it.

While his infamous shopping trips could see him racking up thousands of pounds worth of purchases within minutes.

In 2008 the star stopped by at London department store Harrods where he's alleged to have spent £100,000 in 15 minutes.

Speaking in 2008, his former attorney Brian Oxman said: "He lives a pretty simple lifestyle these days. The extravagances are in the past and no one has really seen him because he is very low key. But he is happy and doing well."

Broadway Production Company Behind Michael Jackson Musical 'MJ' Hires Producer Travis LeMont Ballenger. 13-08-'20

Travis LeMont Ballenger, formerly associate artistic director at San Diego's Globe Theater.

The Broadway production company behind the upcoming Michael Jackson musical 'MJ' and the stage adaptation of the hit 2000 film 'Almost Famous' has hired 'The Old Globe Theater's' Travis LeMont Ballenger as producer to help oversee both high-profile projects.

Ballenger, most recently the Associate Artistic Director at the Globe in San Diego, also will work on the development of new shows in his job at Lia Vollack Productions. He brings the company substantial theater experience, particularly with regard to works by Black artists including Lynn Nottage, the two-time Pulitzer Prize winning playwright penning the book for MJ.

"Throughout his career, Travis has already distinguished himself as a true creative force," Lia Vollack said. "He is a passionate theater maker and an outspoken advocate for artists. I am so thrilled that Travis is joining me and I know my company, our shows, and Broadway will be so much richer for having his voice in the room."

"As you can imagine, accepting this position was not a hard decision," Ballenger said in a statement. "Lia is a forward-thinking, deeply decent human being, with a clear vision for what theater can be. She is passionate about bringing new audiences and artists to Broadway and beyond. Therefore, she has her hands on some of the most exciting material around."

'MJ', a co-production with the Michael Jackson Estate that features music from singer's catalogue and Nottage's book, is scheduled to begin preview performances at Broadway's Neil Simon Theatre on March 8th, 2021, with opening night on April 15. Prior to Broadway’s COVID shutdown, the show had been set to begin previews last month.

Production details for the 'Almost Famous' musical have not been announced. The film's writer-director Cameron Crowe announced the stage adaptation in 2018, with himself set to write the musical’s book.

Both projects have been among Broadway's most attention-getting upcoming shows, generating considerable anticipation and curiosity. 'MJ' and 'Almost Famous' were the first productions announced by Vollack when she launched her company last November after more than 20 years with Sony Pictures Entertainment, including a three-year run as President of the studio's theater division Columbia Live Stage.

As an Associate Producer for Market Road Films, co-founded by Nottage, Ballenger field-produced 2017s 'This Is Reading', a performance installation in Reading, Pennsylvania inspired by Nottage's research for her Pulitzer-winning 2015 play Sweat.

During a previous stint at Washington D.C.'s Arena Stage, Ballenger line-produced, among other shows, the pre-Broadway run of Lydia R. Diamond's Stick Fly, which opened in New York in 2011 with a cast that included Dulé Hill, Tracie Thoms, Mekhi Phifer and Condola Rashad. Ballenger has also worked as a producer with Katori Hall, Sarah Treem, Pearl Cleage, Lydia R. Diamond, and Radha Blank.

After Arena, Ballenger became the Associate Producer for the Hip-Hop Theater Festival, producing both Washington D.C. and New York festivals, as well as a co-production with the Classical Theater of Harlem. He has also served as Associate Producer and Casting Director at Dallas Theater Center and Associate Producer of 'The Drama League Of New York', producing both in New York and internationally.

Most recently, Ballenger was Associate Artistic Director at The Old Globe Theater in San Diego. An artist and poet, his poetry has been published in The Journal of African American Literature and Glasschord Magazine.

Loving Neverland'Loving Neverland' A New Fan Documentary. 03-08-'20

Fans have been busy defending Michael Jackson to point down the lies told in Dan Reed's "movie" 'Leaving Neverland'.

For over a year now, fans have created educational videos, blogs, websites to educate the general public about the cases and unveil the inconstancy of the stories of those who are accusing Michael Jackson.

'Square One' by Danny Wu has had a huge impact in telling the truth about the 93 case and is currently #1 on Amazon Prime US. 'Square One' was created with no budget or massive promotion but has managed to open the eyes on the truth for many people.

While fans have been hugely supporting and waiting for Taj Jackson's documentary, the time is pressing as 'Leaving Neverland' was just awarded a BAFTA for best factual documentary (I know this is a joke).

Yesterday (August 2), two fans have announced they have been working on a documentary for months called 'Loving Neverland' and released a trailer for it.

While the trailer does not give much to know the content of the documentary, Nandita Raghav and Deboleena Aich have stated:

'Loving Neverland' is a documentary that makes you aware of the injustices & pain Michael Jackson was put through. Come join us through the journey of the most tortured soul. Step into his shoes and know what it is to be Michael Jackson.

Fan projects like this one are so important and if made nicely, the general public and media will pick it up and the spread of the truth will go further.

It is said that 'Loving Neverland' will be released before Michael Jackson's birthday (August 29).

To be continued…
