Diana Ross Kept Her Outfit From Her Legendary Performance With Michael Jackson In Her Garage.

Diana Ross TV Special (1981)Throughout her career, Diana Ross has worked with some of music's biggest legends and even shared the stage with them many times. She was good friends with Michael Jackson for decades, and both of them were highly respected artists.

In the 1970s and 80s, Miss Ross performed in several broadcast concerts that aired on network television. One of them, simply titled Diana, first aired on CBS in March 1981.

"Miss Ross is the vibrant-throated beauteous singer who came to fame a score of years ago with the Supremes vocal trio, and time has only enhanced her appearance and charm," The New York Times said of the legendary vocalist. "This is a flamboyant show-biz effort, directed by its producer, Steve Binder, and fulfills its function enthusiastically."

Ross is joined by a few special guests during her performance, not the least of which was the 'King of Pop'. Jackson came out and showed off his dance skills as he performed his own hits such as 'Rock With You', and Ross even took them back to their groundbreaking movie The Wiz with a rendition of "Home".

During a reprise duet performance of 'Rock With You', Ross and Jackson appear onstage in matching outfits: a white two-piece suit with a black sequined top underneath. That top became iconic in itself, and it eventually got handed down to her daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross.

Ellis Ross
Ellis Ross at the American Music Awards in 2017.

In an interview with supermodel Naomi Campbell on her web series No Filter with Naomi, Ellis Ross revealed that her mom didn't seem to recognize the value of that outfit — along with many others she’s worn over the past several decades.

"She doesn't sometimes understand the importance of them. It's hilarious," Ellis Ross admitted to Campbell. "I was out in the garage at one point, and I came back in the house with this shirt and I was like, 'Mom! What is [this]?! What?! Why isn't this in a case? This could pay for college!'"

Ellis Ross tried to get her mother to understand the kind of history she has stored away, and eventually took the sequined top for herself. "It's in my house now," she chuckled.

Ellis Ross hasn't worn the blouse in public much, likely because it's such a delicate piece of clothing from so long ago. She hosted the American Music Awards in 2017 and wore it during one of her onstage moments, carrying on the legacy of her mother in the entertainment industry through one small blouse.

Postponement Of Hearing In The Wade Robson Case Against The Michael Jackson Companies. 24-02-'21

Wade RobsonHere's a quick reminder of the latest news on the Wade Robson vs MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures case.

While the lawsuits brought by Wade Robson and James Safechuck against Michael Jackson's two companies had been dismissed by a US court because they had not been filed before the accusers' 26th birthday, a new law came into effect on the 1st. January 2020 and extending this deadline until the age of 40 again authorized them to do so.

On October 20th, 2020, the Los Angeles court made its final decision in James Safechuck's February 2017 complaint against MJJ Production and MJJ Ventures that the plaintiff cannot hold Michael Jackson's companies responsible for the alleged actions of the 'King of Pop' could have committed.

Regarding the trial of Wade Robson, a hearing date was scheduled today February 24, 2021. But following the tragic death of the daughter of Jon Steinsapir, lawyer for the estate of Michael Jackson, a postponement of the hearing took place and is now set for April 20, 2021.

When changing statutes of limitations, Howard Weitzman, an attorney for Michael Jackson's estate, said that "the lawsuits against Michael Jackson's companies absurdly claim that Michael's employees are somehow responsible for sexual assault. that never happened."

John BrancaJohn Branca On How Michael Jackson Changed Music Publishing. 22-02-'21

When Michael Jackson bought ATV Music — home to the Beatles catalog — in 1985 and partnered with Sony Music Publishing to establish Sony/ATV in 1995, those strategic moves were stepping stones toward fulfilling Jackson's long-held dream.

"Michael's dream was to create the biggest publisher in the world," says entertainment attorney John Branca. He negotiated the aforementioned deals and other publishing acquisitions on behalf of his client before Jackson's untimely death in 2009. In addition to serving as co-executor of the Michael Jackson Estate with John McClain, Branca is partner and head of the music division at entertainment law firm Ziffren Brittenham LLP.

Speaking to Billboard on the occasion of Sony/ATV's rebranding as Sony Music Publishing in tandem with the company's silver anniversary celebration, Branca says, "Michael is the person who was single-handedly most responsible for the growth of Sony/ATV. That's not to take anything away from [former chairman/CEO] Martin Bandier, who was very influential and instrumental in growing the company, or present chairman/CEO Jon Platt, with whom the company is in great hands. But it really started with Michael."

When did you first become aware of Jackson’s interest in publishing?

Michael and I started working together in 1980. He was an innovator like Sam Cooke. When he hired me, he didn't own his masters at the time. But 'Thriller' gave him the leverage and the platform for me to go to Sony and get him ownership of his masters. That was very important to him.

Right after 'Thriller' came out (1982), Michael said he wanted to buy copyrights. We bought the Sly And The Family Stone catalog and bought more wonderful copyrights later like 'When A Man Loves A Woman', McFadden & Whitehead's 'Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now', and Jackie Wilson's '(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher'. Then when Michael bought ATV in 1985, that was part one of his dream to create the biggest publishing company in the world. Then the merger with Sony in 1995 was the next step in the process. Michael was also on Sony/ATV's board of directors, so he remained active in helping to build the company as it continued to buy important publishing catalogs.

Along the way, I represented Leiber and Stoller when they sold their catalog to Sony/ATV and also represented [Motown founder] Berry Gordy in selling the Jobete song catalog to EMI Music Publishing. After Michael's unfortunate passing [in 2009], we were able to help [then Sony/ATV chairman/CEO] Marty Bandier and [chief financial officer] Rob Wiesenthal buy EMI to create the biggest publisher in the world. When we did that, it was kind of a nod to Michael because that was his dream. He was always focused on that.

What was Jackson's thought process in determining which catalogs and copyrights to acquire?

He appreciated great songs and great songwriting and in his mind the Beatles were the greatest. So when the Beatles catalog came up, my God, he couldn't rest. It took almost a year to finish that deal and get that catalog, but I can't tell you how excited he was.

Many people probably don't realize how astute Jackson was in his publishing acquisitions, including songs like the popular-again anthem 'Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now'. What other songs would people be surprised to learn are part of his Mijac Music portfolio?

'People Get Ready' by the Impressions is another great anthem that's under Mijac. Also Aretha Franklin's “(Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You've Been Gone', 'For The Love Of Money' and 'Love Train' by the O'Jays and songs by Ray Charles and Elvis Presley. Mijac Music remains an independent publishing company administered by Sony Music Publishing and owned by the Jackson Estate.

Is there another special memory that comes to mind when you look back at Jackson’s publishing pursuits?

I remember mentioning to him that growing up, I'd been a fan of Dion and the Belmonts and noted that Dion's 'Runaround Sue' and 'The Wanderer' were for sale. Michael said, "I don't know those songs; send them over." Michael would always spend Sundays dancing, so on Monday morning, he called me up: 'Branca, Branca. I love the songs! We've got to get them. I danced all day to 'Runaround Sue'." Michael was passionate beyond belief.

A Message From Taj Jackson About The Documentary 'The Truth Runs Marathons'. 20-02-'21

Taj Jackson"I won't stop until this project is completed."

"I know we're all tired and exhausted. You probably wonder if we're making a difference by telling people about Michael's innocence. You feel like a broken record. 'Do you still care?" Yes. Your support for my tireless dedication and constant struggle for my uncle comes straight from you.

I read your messages, I see your tweets defending my uncle and it fills me with pride and determination.

Always remember ... We are on the right side of history. And justice for Michael Jackson is very important to us. I don't know if you all saw the impact that the recently released documentary "Free Britney" had on the audience. Now imagine an even bigger and better result for Michael Jackson.

I already said, my goal with this project is to PERMANENTLY change the narrative about Michael Jackson and CEMENT the greatness and legacy.

Unfortunately, as we are still in a pandemic, things are going much more slowly than I could have imagined. Fortunately, there is a light at the end of this tunnel and I am looking forward to getting things moving again once the restrictions have eased. Every day I am giving interviews and fighting for my uncle"s innocence, and making this project the best and the biggest.

I heard some people publicly doubting whether this project will ever be completed. And although I really understand your frustrations, I don't think anyone understands the strength of my love for my uncle and the incredible bond we had. This is a promise I made to him over 25 years ago and I still remember it as if it were today. I promised him to always defend his legacy. Even when others wouldn't.

I will not stop until this project is completed as something he would be proud of.

Now, more than ever, I am excited and optimistic because "a change is on the way" (to quote the late and great Sam Cooke) and I can already see that happening.

I have it, we have it!

PS. I will be releasing the names of the research team next week. Remember, I'll add more names as needed in the future."

The Documentary series is planned to have 7 episodes and Taj gave an example of what it might look like:

Episode 1: The 1980s – The Crowning of a King (The Height of Michael Jackson Mania)
Episode 2: 1993/1994 – The Extortion of Michael Jackson
Episode 3: The 2005 Trial – Sneddon's Revenge (The Media's Pro-Prosecution Role)

The HIStory Statue Of Best Is Still In A Warehouse. 18-02-'21

It’s been nearly 2 years since the Michael Jackson HIStory Statue has been removed from the McDonald's carpark in Best, Netherlands (April 2019).

It was rumoured that the statue was given to a Dutch Fan Club or a Michael Jackson Foundation but this is not true and did not happen.

The statue is still in a warehouse in the Netherlands. The Restaurant owner, Peter van Gelder, who placed the statue there in 1996 said he has already explored places where the statue could be put. "The idea is that it will be in a public place, so it is accessible to fans. That way it becomes a gift for all the fans."

Sonic FantasySonic Fantasy Documentary Is Finished! 12-02-'21

The history of the best-selling album of all time:

Sonic Fantasy is coming! Only a few 'bureaucratic' adjustments are missing, but it seems that it's going to be a first-rate documentary (premiering directly on Netflix! It will be?).

Directed by Marcos Cabotá, Sonic Fantasy follows in the footsteps of the legendary sound engineer Bruce Swedien (1934–2020) as one of the fundamental pieces in the creation of the best-selling album of all time, ' Thriller'.

Nearly 40 years after its release, for the first time, everyone involved in this album came together to explain the unknown story behind the creation of the masterpiece.

"The film is finished, but because it's such a big project, some complex issues need to be discussed with its protagonists, their families and their administrators. This is causing a slight delay in programming and can force reshoots of parts of the film. Everyone involved wants the best for this project and I'm sure the wait will have been worth it. As Bruce Swedien always said, 'Music First'."

The Jacksons Late-Seventies Disco Albums Are Released. 12-02-'21

Epic Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment released expanded digital editions of the classic albums recorded by The Jacksons as they built on their Jackson 5 boy band origins and emerged as avatars of an R&B/pop revolution.

The group's 'The Jacksons' (1976), 'Goin' Places' (1977), and 'Destiny' (1978) will arrive digitally with the addition of bonus tracks.

The Jacksons was the group's first album for Epic after splitting with Motown, and it was their first without Jermaine, who was married to Motown founder Berry Gordy’s daughter Hazel and opted to stay on that label. His younger brother Randy then stepped into the mix. Despite the switch, the album was a hit, later certified gold, thanks to the hits 'Enjoy Yourself' and 'Show Me The Way You Go'. One of the albums deep cuts, 'Blue Away', was Michael Jackson's first-ever solo songwriting credit. The expanded edition of the album adds 7-inch and 12-inch mixes of the big hits, as well as a Dimitri From Paris re-edit of 'Living Together'.

'Goin' Places' didn’t fare as well on the charts, although the title track reached the Top 10 on the R&B chart. The new edition features the 7-inch mix of that track, as well as 'Find Me A Girl' and 'Even Though You're Gone'. 'Destiny', released a year later, was a bigger hit, later certified platinum. This was thanks to the disco hits 'Blame It On The Boogie' and 'Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)', which presaged Michael Jackson's disco reinvention a year later on his 'Off The Wall' solo album. The expanded edition of 'Destiny' contains more singles mixes of the hits, as well as DJ and remixer John Luongo's disco mixes of the big hits.

End Of The Michael Jackson Beatles Catalog Saga As Sony Music Publishing Drops "ATV" From Its Name.

The Beatles CatalogueIt's the end of an era that began in 1995.

Michael Jackson fans know all too well the saga of how Michael bought what was called ATV Music from Sir Lew Grade in the 1980s. ATV's biggest asset was Northern Songs, aka the Beatles catalog that consisted of 250 or more Lennon and McCartney songs.

In 1995, needing money after spending lavishly for years and making settlements over accusations of child molestation, Michael's lawyers cut a deal to merge with what was known as Sony Music. Michael turned that deal into a piggy bank from which he borrowed and leveraged over and over until he lost control of everything.

Sadly, Michael died in 2009. In 2016, Sony acquired the Michael Jackson estate's 50% share of Sony/ATV, making it a wholly owned Sony company.

And now, Sony is dropping the ATV part of the name. They own the Beatles catalog, mission accomplished. They got the goose that lays the golden egg. Sir Lew Grade is but a memory, as is Dick James, who owned Northern Songs with the Beatles until it was sold to Grade in 1969. Did Sir Lew and Dick know that the Beatles would become the combined Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart of pop music? That six decades later, music publishers would desire their catalog as if it were the 'Ring In Lord Of The Rings'?

Welcome back, Sony Music Publishing.

The statue will be placed in front of a wall of music tapes with the lyrics of 'We Are The World' lighting up in the background.

This will be open to the public very soon and it is a pretty cool setting for the statue.

Without Michael Jackson, The Simpsons Will Never Have Done An Album. 08-02-'21

The Simpsons with MichaelSince the decision from the corporation to take down the episode of The Simpsons featuring Michael Jackson, I am not much of a fan of the show. But unlike them, we are not trying to re-write history!

Even better, we just going to remind people that without Michael Jackson, The Simpsons will never have had a music album!

In 1990, The Simpsons was the most popular cartoon and Michael Jackson the biggest pop star on the planet.

On December 1990, due to high demand for merchandise, the creators of The Simpsons decided to get an album out called 'The Simpsons Sing The Blues'. The 10-tack album ended up at #3 on Billboard charts 200 and the first single 'Do The Bartman' was an international success.

it all started with the success of the episode 'Moaning Lisa' and the co-creators Sam Simon, Jim Brooks, and Matt Groening got an offer to do an album of Simpson's music with Geffen Records.

"I had known James Brooks for quite a while, since Terms of Endearment," the albums producer John Boylan said. "I was peripherally involved with that movie as a music consultant, not on record or anything. I had been friendly with Jim Brooks, and I think he's a wonderful filmmaker. Probably what happened was, and I have no proof of this, but Geffen gave him a shortlist of record producers and I was the only one on the list that Brooks knew."

"You gotta remember this was highly collaborative and it was under tremendous pressure," John said. "The Simpsons were at the top of the zeitgeist at the time. I think they were selling something like 250,000 Bart T-shirts a week. It was just ridiculous. And, of course, all the right-wing people were getting mad at The Simpsons. It was the talk of the country at that time. David wanted to get the album out ASAP. At one point, I was collaborating with Geffen Records and Fox and Gracie Films all were involved with it. A guy named Matt Walden was the guy at Fox. Of course, I dealt with Jim Brooks, Richard Sakai at Gracie Films, and The Simpsons characters. Geffen Records [was] mostly dealing with Eric Eisner, Al Coury, and Eddie Rosenblatt. We were trying to keep that all together."

Of course they had songs set up for some of the characters but it needed something bigger than life to set the record in the stratosphere!

"[Michael Jackson] called and volunteered [to do the album]," John said. "I knew Michael because he was an Epic artist. He was our top-selling artist while I was there. Being an A&R person at Epic, I knew him enough so that he recognized me. He brought in a co-producer name Bryan Loren. He and Loren were going to write a song based on a dance that Michael made up called 'The Bartman'."

'The Simpsons Sing The Blues' became a huge success when it was released in 1990, yes, thanks to the success of the sitcom but mostly to Michael Jackson.

To date the album sold over 2 million copies worldwide peaking at #3 on Billboard 200, #6 in the UK charts and was certified gold at the time.

So while the episode featuring Michael Jackson is nowhere to be seen (unless you have the original DVD), Disney, who now owns The Simpsons, will never have a full set until they re-install the episode when they finally do a bit of research and find out that Michael Jackson is and always be innocent. Cannot wait for an apology!
