The World Music Awards was an international awards show founded in 1989 that annually honors recording artists based on worldwide sales figures provided by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

Michael attends the 18th Annual World Music Awards ceremony at Earl Court in London, England on November 15th, 2006. Beyoncé presents him with the Diamond Award, the top accolade, which honors outstanding recording-artists who have sold over 100 million albums during their career. 'Thriller' album has sold more than 104 million copies worldwide since its release in 1982 - making it the best selling album of all time.

The World Music Awards ceremony was televised in 160 countries including the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, Southeast Asia, China, Africa and the Middle East.

The Diamond Award honors those recording-artists who have sold over 100 million albums during their career. This year's recipient was Michael Jackson. His most popular album, 'Thriller' has sold more than 104 million copies worldwide since its release in 1982 - making it the best selling album of all time.

Michael performs a few lines of 'We Are The World' for the children's chorus rendition of final. This was Jackson's final live performance.

Michael makes a surprise appearance at the 3rd Annual BET Awards on June 24th, 2003 held at the Kodak Theatre, Hollywood, California and presents James Brown with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The BET Awards had a priceless moment when Michael appeared on stage, to honor his mentor, The Godfather of Soul, James Brown, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Michael surprised him by throwing a cape over him (a classic James Brown move), presented him with the Award, saying that since he was 6 years old, James Brown was the greatest entertainment influence on his life. Michael also gave a spontaneous dance performance together with his idol & showed how our traditions are passed down.

Michael performs on April 24th, 2002 at a fund-raiser at "Apollo Theater" in Harlem, New York for the "Democratic National Committee", to launch a campaign aimed at persuading United States citizens to register and where nearly 3 million dollars are collected for the voting registration.

The event called "A Night At The Apollo", the superstar sharing the stage with former president Bill Clinton and singers Tony Bennett and K. D. Lang.The money would be used for the then new "Every Vote Counts" campaign, the committee said. The 1'400 audience members paid up to 5,000 dollars each to see the array of stars.

United We Stand: "What More Can I Give" was a benefit concert held on October 21st, 2001 at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. The concert was the third major concert held in tribute to the victims of the September 11th, 2001 attacks. The other two were held in New York City.

The event was televised, in an edited format, on ABC, several days after the concert. During the telecast, there was no mention of Jackson's name and he was always filmed with the rest of the singers in the background; this was because Jackson signed a contract with CBS (the former owner of his record label) over the '30th Anniversary Special' to not appear under his name in any other program; the airing of 'Man In The Mirror' at an awards ceremony was also canceled.

Michael Jackson performed 'We Are The World' followed by 'Man In The Mirror', for the final Michael welcomed back with other artists for the song 'What More Can I Give'.

Michael Jackson made a surprise appearance at the 18th Annual MTV Video Music Awards on September 6th, 2001 with 'NSYNC at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center in New York City, NY.

Apparently Michael Jackson wanted to get the dust off his signature black penny loafers 24 hours ahead of schedule. He performed in front of a U.S. audience for the first time in years when he joined 'NSYNC onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Toward the end of the group's performance of 'Pop', the words "King of Pop" appeared on a giant Etch a Sketch, only to be replaced by a silhouette of Jackson. As the oversized drawing device was elevated, Jackson, dressed in a white V-neck T-shirt and a black shirt and pants, came onstage and started to do the robot, pop-lock and show off his often-imitated spins and feet shuffling, but he did not sing.

Jackson's only acknowledgement to the audience, which gave him a standing ovation, was a single point of the finger.

The second show was held in Munich at the Olympic stadium on June 27th, 1999 and it was the last time Michael Jackson perform in a proper concert setting just like old times and it was to turn out into a very eventful night. Jackson was joined by long-time collaborator Slash during the concert.

The concert series entitles “What More Can I Give” was a benefit charity concert for “the children of Kosovo” and had a long list of performers from Luther Vandross to Vanessa Mae to Status Quo! The proceeds were donated to the "Nelson Mandela Children's Fund", the Red Cross and UNESCO.

During the performance of 'Earth Song' the bridge prop fell from the top of the stage to below the stage with Michael on it. He continued the show without any further costume changes. After the show ended, Michael collapsed backstage and was rushed to a hospital.

The monumental bash featuring a surprise performances by Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Tevin Campbell, James Ingram, Stephanie Mills, N-Tyce and others, was a party for the ages.

Guests at the grand opening ceremonies included Leonardo di Caprio, Julia Roberts, Oprah Winfrey, Alfre Woodard, Sidney Poitier, Lee Majors, Donald Trump, Carmen Electra, Chris Noth, Denzel and Pauletta Washington, Quincy Jones, Ivana Trump, Jimmy Buffet, Julia Ormond, Keri Russell, Larry Flynt, Ashford & Simpson, Robin Leach, and dozens of others.

Michael performed 'Heal The World' - a short, impromptu live performance when he was handed a microphone and asked to sing which, somewhat reluctantly, he did.

Michael Jackson performed 'Earth Song' at the 8th Annual World Music Awards in Monte Carlo on May 8th, 1996. Michael had just performed the same song at the Brit awards a couple of weeks earlier which had caused a world wide media storm. 'Earth Song', at the time had just been number 1 and one of the biggest songs in Europe.

Michael Jackson appeared on the German television show “Wetten Dass..?” on November 4th, 1995. He was première the live performance of his 'History' album song 'Earth Song' as well as performing his song 'Dangerous'.

Not only did Michael perform to an obviously capacity studio but massive screens were erected outside and 10 – 20, 000 people turned up in the cold to watch Michael perform outside the venue!

Robert L. Johnson, BET’s president, presented a special plaque to Michael, who said he was ‘really proud’ and that it was ‘a great honour’.
